24 die off the coast of Greece, including children

I have no answers at all but I find it so unutterably depressing when politicians think up so many reasons not to do anything and children are drowning.

A few days ago I saw a woman who had come off one of the boats. She was slumped against a wall, beyond exhausted, with her baby in her arms and I just thought suppose that was your daughter and grandchild.

The Turks will shrug their shoulders and say, not our problem.
I am beyond incensed about the way the Greeks have been treated on this.
And now they are being threatened with expulsion from the Schengen zone unless they tighten their borders.
The Germans have finally realised they can't cope, and they are the wealthiest country in Europe, and they expect the Greeks to deal with this massive invasion.

Yes Greece may have a big navy but it also has an enormously long coast due to all those islands, many of the in sight of the Turkish mainland. Working with Turkey to stop them getting on boats surely infinitely easier if someone would but make the effort.
In the meantime what help are the poor Greeks getting as they help people.

The traffickers should be rounded up and put in prison.

Beyond tragic. I don't know what more we can do. I hope to God that someone, somewhere finds a way to prevent these tragedies.

We have pussyfooted around too long. The stupid parents doing this to their children should be punished. It is criminal. The camps are not as bad as their children drowning.

There was a tv programme on last night about Sir Nicholas Winton who saved 669 unaccompanied children from the Nazis.
It was heartrending but very moving when they showed Esther Rantzen's old programme when she asked anyone in the audience to stand up who had been rescued by him, and the whole audience stood up.

We have to stop them getting in those boats. Greece has the biggest navy in Europe. We know that Greece is on it's knees financially, so the EU must stump up the money to get their boats out there.
Any other suggestions?

Across the EU governments are pulling up the drawbridges. Taking a few extra children is a token gesture.
Shades of the Kindertransport which people talk of as if it was a virtuous move on the part of the UK. Not at all - because adult refugees were not allowed into the UK and ended up going to the death camps.
