What I was trying to express was the fact that I do feel close to the Eu countries and cannot see how we can possibly cut ourselves off from them. I agree that S. Germany is also awful and that the Cumbria,Somerset levels and York floods were equally devastating. I know people affected in York and Cumbria, but know no-one living in the areas currently flooded and yet I recognise a shared experience and problem which means to me that we should keep our links and stay part of the EU. There are environmental ideas which are of course arguable but it is this emotional attachment and connection that has reinforced my belief that we are part of Europe and should stay in.
