Do these energetic septugenarians prove that 70 isn't old these days?.

Like a lot of GNetters, I am still working in my seventies, but not in a top job and I have to admit I am slowing down, but it's good to see that some of our contemporaries can still do well.

In some occupations it is not uncommon to continue working well past retirement age. Judy Dench, 82 and Angela Lansbury, 91, are both still acting. The two top British architects are Norman Foster, 82, and Richard Rogers, 83. However Brenda Hale will not be allowed to continue as a Supreme Court judge after she is 75.

As for Vince Cable, there are many examples of senior politicians in their seventies and older. He has become leader of the LibDems because he is the most experienced of the party's 12 MP's, and the only one who put himself forward. Although age discrimination is a problem in this country, I suspect that people who say they will not vote LibDem with Vince as party leader, would not have voted LibDem in any event.

I am 72 and a retired teacher but I still teach part time and get a lot of pleasure out of it. To paraphrase midsummermadness age is just a number.

A friend, now on her 70s and a keen sailor, towed her boat, single-handed, a to the continent for a competition.
