Watching TM and the Queen lauding the Commonwealth and how much it means to them. Not to mention the job creation scheme for useless 70 odd year olds.

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 19:47:02

Try a rennie

midgey Thu 19-Apr-18 19:47:09

I take it you are not 70 then? I am and very much hope I am not useless.

maryeliza54 Thu 19-Apr-18 19:49:31

I’m over 70 and far from useless but then I’ve earned and deserved my role in life - it didn’t depend on whose vagina I came out of or mt mum telling everyone I deserved a particular job.

Jalima1108 Thu 19-Apr-18 19:56:50

There does seem to be a virus going round, DD was not feeling well earlier.
I hope you feel better soon.

merlotgran Thu 19-Apr-18 20:04:08

I thought Camilla looked horrified at the thought of going to work at 70. grin

Anniebach Thu 19-Apr-18 20:05:49

There was no reference to Camilla being head of the commonwealth

merlotgran Thu 19-Apr-18 20:14:53

It was a joke, Annie. Camilla will no doubt be expected to accompany Charles and when the camera panned in on her I laughed at her expression.

It's well known she doesn't enjoy travelling.

Cherrytree59 Thu 19-Apr-18 20:18:36

Saying you had the misfortune to come via a royal vagina would you have renounced you birth right and joined the common people.
Moved into a little semi and sent your kids to local secondary school?smile

MawBroon Thu 19-Apr-18 20:19:20

Oh dear, Gute Besserung.

Didn’t feel the urge to watch any of thisconfused

phoenix Thu 19-Apr-18 21:43:07

And the point is? Leaving aside any Royal connotations, what is wrong with the Commonwealth?

nigglynellie Thu 19-Apr-18 22:05:52

Nothing! I've always thought and still do, that its a force for good in a very uncertain world but no doubt someone will correct me!!

Chewbacca Thu 19-Apr-18 22:10:42

Sorry you're feeling billious Maryeliza It's showing in your post, but I don't agree that 70 year olds are useless, any more than any other age is. And I too wonder what's wrong with the Commonwealth? P.S. hope you're feeling better soon x .

Iam64 Thu 19-Apr-18 22:23:42

The commonwealth has been important to the Queen throughout her long public service. It’s been one of the things I’ve grown to respect her for.
I’m certain the OP didn’t expect many people would want to join the nauseafest.

Lucylastic Thu 19-Apr-18 22:34:56

I think Maryeliza is referring to the queen's comment that she hoped Prince Charles would be chosen to follow her as the next head of the commonwealth.
He certainly needs to find something purposeful to fill his pointless life.

Cherrytree59 Thu 19-Apr-18 22:40:23

IMHO our Queen and the Commonwealth have provided a sense of stability and continuity in as nigglynellie says 'a very uncertain world'.

When the Queen is no longer at the helm
there maybe a great many changes ahead.

paddyann Thu 19-Apr-18 23:02:16

well when Castro got to choose his successor and Korea was handed over to a relative an awful lot of folk were very unhappy about it...so whats the difference between that and Lizzie picking Charlie for this job? Same thing surely....not given on merit just by birth.

Anniebach Fri 20-Apr-18 08:26:56

No one's life is pointless

kittylester Fri 20-Apr-18 08:29:55

Quite Annie!

Anniebach Fri 20-Apr-18 08:32:25

The leader of the Labour Party is hoping to have a job when he is 70

Bridgeit Fri 20-Apr-18 09:05:02

?very good Annibach

What is the point of becoming bitter & twisted about this Maryeliza54 , Queen or no queen ,Commonwealth or not our own little lives will trundle on just the same.
Many many people live terrible lives compared to us, doesn’t stop you or I pontificateing on here with a roof over our heads & a computer to hand. Someone somwhere could be looking at you thinking - look at her with her opinions & computer sitting around casting aspersions on others ‘There but for the grace of God Go I ‘ is one of my favourite sayings. We shouldn’t judge others without looking to ourselves first.

Anniebach Fri 20-Apr-18 09:13:41

True Bridgeit, seems some have little knowledge of the commonwealth, doubt they care, just a chance for republicans to sound off.

maryeliza54 Fri 20-Apr-18 09:29:50

What a thoroughly nasty childish post Brid . I’m not bitter and twisted and you have no damn right to post such a personal attack.. There is nothing bitter or twisted about making a comment on the sheer hypocrisy of the Commonwealth being feted at a time of the WG fiasco or implicitly on the hereditary principle nor on questioning the usefulness or otherwise of Charles. Surprisingly enough I do realise that some people lives are hard compared to us but I’m completely bewildered what that fact has to do with my posting my opinion on here. Or the rest of your illogical post for that matter. Posters like you were very critical of certain other posters who have left and how horrid they were to those that disagreed with them - well clearly your posts demonstrate how well you have apparently learned from them. Quite what your post adds to the debate I’m at a loss to understand. You could try playing the ball.

www.theguardian.com/world/commentisfree/2018/apr/19/prince-charles-brown-skin-british-people-head-of-commonwealth

An example this week of Charles doing a sterling job.For those of you who think links are the work of the devil, the crux of the article is his meeting a British born young BME asking her where she’s from and when she says Manchester, he replies that she doesn’t look like it and laughs. Worthy of his father that one - what a quip, how clever, how funny - how RACIST

Bridgeit Fri 20-Apr-18 09:42:24
