It's like a variation of the Dolly Parton comment only Farage's is 'I takes a lot of money to appear to be as poor as I am'...

varian Sun 09-Jun-19 14:39:54

Meanwhile, liar Farage, who has frequently bemoaned the lack of money in politics, and not that long ago boasted about being "broke" is banking with Coutts, according to a report in The Times.

"He is the man of the people, often photographed holding a pint in a pub and smiling broadly. But Nigel Farage banks with Coutts, the 327-year-old private bank whose customers include the Queen, and has his mortgage there, according to the title deeds to his home in Westerham, Kent.

The bank has strict lending criteria that would enable only the wealthiest of clients to afford one of its mortgage products. Those wishing to take out a mortgage with Coutts must either have an annual income of at least £500,000, or a combination of savings, investments and loans with it, which can include the mortgage, of at least £1m."

Very stupid

varian Fri 07-Jun-19 19:57:59

UKIP had members who were entitled to vote. That is normal in a democratic party. Unfortunately the members did not always vote the way their leader, liar Farage, wanted them to vote, so he jumped ship and has now set up the "brexit party" which is not a democratic party but a private company where "supporters" sign up, pay £25 and have no say in anything.

These fools give their money to liar Farage but can't decide on the policies, the leadership, or the candidates of this so-called party.

I have never, ever, suggested that all those who voted leave in 2016 are stupid but how stupid would you have to be to sign up to that?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 19:53:34

Very worrying

If leave voters truly believe the EU about to fall apart why are they making such a song and dance, dividing the country and spending billions on the tortuous process of leaving? If it falls apart any minute we wouldn’t have to persuade all those pesky remainers and we wouldn’t have to destroy our country in the process. There wouldn’t be an Eu to leave so we’d wouldn’t have to waste all these years arguing. Oh but they don’t know this is about to happen any minute do they? Plus they actively want to destroy it and pit one nation against another. Can’t have any of this cooperation can we?

Labaik Fri 07-Jun-19 19:28:54

Why are you so jubilant at the thought of the EU falling apart? sad

Urmstongran Fri 07-Jun-19 18:43:12

There’s a good reason Nigel Farage has been busy trying to form EU alliances. Whitewave

Parties from across the EU are in a scrabble to form political alliances after May’s European elections.

Such groups get increased EU funding, influential posts and speaking time in the chamber. Non-affiliated parties get much less exposure and cash.

A group must have at least 25 MEPs with “political affinity” from at least seven different countries.

Mr Farage has been shuttling to and from Brussels to meet putative allies. He led the Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) group after the 2014 elections, entering into a pact with Italy’s anti-establishment Five Star Movement.

Between the two parties, they had more than enough MEPs to form a group and attracted a handful of politicians from five other countries to clear the threshold.

On Wednesday, Mr Farage ruled out joining Matteo Salvini and Marine Le Pen’s far-right and Eurosceptic Europe of Nations and Freedom group.

His focus is on reforming the EFDD, where he is, without question, the biggest fish in the pond.

Europhiles will pin their hopes on Eurosceptic parties being split between Mr Salvini and Mr Farage to such an extent that neither gets MEPs from enough different countries to form a group.

That is unlikely but it is another factor that Mr Farage must consider.

He is now at the head of 29 MEPs, making the Brexit Party the single largest party in the new parliament with Angela Merkel’s CDU-CSU.

Suitors would normally be banging on his door in Brussels begging to join forces but Brexit complicates matters. Once Britain leaves, so does its MEPs, which will weaken and could collapse the alliance.

varian Fri 07-Jun-19 18:38:38

LBC actually employ liar Farage and give him his own regular show. Apparently being a highly paid MEP is not a full-time job as far as he's concerned.

Fennel Fri 07-Jun-19 18:32:07

James is the sole voice on LBC who is allowed to express anti-right opinion.
At least they allow one.

Interesting.

I have just been reading that Farage has exactly modelled the Brexit Party on the 5 star fascist party in Italy.

Labaik Fri 07-Jun-19 12:26:38

He reminds me of some sort of character from sci fi that can take on human form but is really a horribly ugly alien; I can see behind the jolly chappie façade but so many people can't and I don't understand that at all...[apologies to any aliens that might read this, by the way...]

GillT57 Fri 07-Jun-19 12:02:15

Terrific headline on News Thump about Farage demanding recognition of 29% who voted for his company in Peterborough as he dismisses the concerns of the 48% who did not vote for Brexit.

Labaik Fri 07-Jun-19 11:59:57

From a Sky News article 'The party's spectacular 32% showing in the European elections provoked blind panic among Tory MPs and looks like propelling Boris Johnson, the only politician the Tories have who compares with Mr Farage's rock star status, to 10 Downing Street.' all I could think, reading this was 'there's something rotten in the state of Denmark'. What is wrong with this country? 'rock star status, for heavens sake.....?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 11:59:48

Farage wants a no deal Brexit, he has made that entirely clear. No negotiations necessary.

He has now been pictured on Downing Street steps demanding a place in the negotiations.

Odd even for Farage

GracesGranMK3 Fri 07-Jun-19 11:34:39

Oh, good one Whitewave. The HuffPost email's headline was Farage Fails.

It goes on to describe The Brexit Company" (is it a "Limited" one by any chancegrin) as a just a pressure group. Does that mean the ERG and Momentum will stand in elections in the future then?

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 11:12:38

Someone just brought up that the BP is a ltd co. So how does it stand vis a vis tax and of course there is the VAT dimension.

Time HMRC got busy. Wish it would land in my in-tray??

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 11:09:57

Headlines by Daily Mash

Nigel Farage has kept his proud record of never winning in a Westminster election

?????

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 11:06:27

Yes NF left by the back door. Quite fitting I thought.

Nonnie Fri 07-Jun-19 11:04:27

I saw a clip on Twitter (may or may not be genuine) of NF waiting, smiling, for the result and when it came out rushing to the loo. He then left by the back door. I like to think it was genuine. Yes, I know I'm being rather childish but surely we all can be sometimes?

Elvive Fri 07-Jun-19 08:26:49

crystal, that made me laugh.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:54:00

Now is the time to make sure the country has not changed its mind over Brexit.

If the BP can’t win in such a huge leave area you have to question if the U.K. has changed its mind.

Look at these figures.

2016

A majority of people who voted (but not the majority of the voting population) voted to leave.
17.4 million.

2019

Leave voters had the first and best opportunity to vote for an actual leave representative.

5.5 million Only.

There May be a clue here

Whitewavemark2 Fri 07-Jun-19 07:47:40

Looking at the result. Labour actually increased its majority!! Not by much but it is clear people do not have the stomach for such nasty politics.

Well done Peterborough for fighting off the fascists. We can do it.
