according to my FB page the easiest way for England to leave the EU is to declare themselves Independent i.e. leave the UK.Thats what they told us in 2014 ,leaving the UK would mean automatic expulsion from the EU ,thats why so many voted NO.Scotland ,wales and NI would remain in the EU as the component parts of the old UK so a win win situation. Why has nobody thought of this before?

After the bile online today about Scotland after the judgement its clear that there is a large contingent that would be delighted to see the back of us .I might start a ne wpetition for Independence for England .I do hope you'll all sign it

We’re not going anywhere Paddy....it’s you that wants to leave us.
However, let’s be correct on this, it’s the UK ( including Scotland) that will be leaving the EU, not England.
I know, wishful thinking on your part, wasn’t it? ?

paddyann Wed 11-Sep-19 22:38:19

I know the facts Lemon....England needs to hold onto us or it goes bankrupt .But hey they'll go bankrupt anyway when they leave the EU so why take the restof us with you..go on you know I'm right .Just leave the UK and do the rest of us a favour!

Sadly, it’s not up to me Paddy but if you are granted another referendum and Scotland decides to leave the Union,
I won’t, shall we say, be shedding any tears.

Chewbacca Wed 11-Sep-19 23:23:10

thats why so many voted NO. Scotland ,Wales and NI I know the facts Lemon

That's incorrect paddyann. Great Britain is made up of 4 countries: England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. Wales and England voted, in the majority, to leave the EU and Northern Ireland and Scotland voted, in the majority, to remain.

paddyann Thu 12-Sep-19 00:14:34

they want to remain now though, indpendence march in Wales last weekend ,NI doesn't want a border so staying is the answer for them and its only England that really wants to leave by a slim majority. So why should everyone else have to suffer because of them?

Drum1234 Thu 12-Sep-19 00:28:10

paddyann, if Scotland leaves the UK, I for one will shed many tears. We're not all like lemongrove. United we stand, divided we fall. Never has that saying meant as much to this lovely land that we all share.

absthame Thu 12-Sep-19 00:29:06

I am British first, I value the union above my country of birth, England, or my countries of heritage, those being Scotland, Ireland and England. The thing I fear is that my nation is being destroyed by the selfish nationalism of the Scots, Irish and English.

I pray that I am wrong.

Callistemon Thu 12-Sep-19 01:51:04

Wales voted to leave paddyann.

Lyndiloo Thu 12-Sep-19 03:02:35

Oh, what a great idea, paddyann! And you're so right - why has nobody thought of this before? Independence for England! We'd save shed-loads of the money that we give to Scotland, for a start! (More per head than anywhere else in the UK.)

One thing that does worry me a bit is all the money we'd be losing from Scotland, making England bankrupt ...? (Ha! Ha! Think not!)

I’d like London to be an independent city state and remain the EU. After all, we voted to remain. We have a population bigger than many independent countries. We produce the greatest % of the wealth of the U.K. the rest of the U.K. ( minus Scotland and NI) can enjoy their Brexitland on their own.

dragonfly46 Thu 12-Sep-19 09:16:34

I would be sad. I am sad we are leaving Europe and would hate to break up the UK.

luluaugust Thu 12-Sep-19 09:22:28

Why didn't Scotland vote to come out of the Union when it had the chance?

Nandalot Thu 12-Sep-19 09:30:51

One of the reasons people voted No in the Scottish referendum was that they were told they would no longer be a member of the EU.

Gaunt47 Thu 12-Sep-19 09:39:42

There was a campaign, of sorts, for an independent England when the Welsh and the Scots got their own parliament.
After the breakup of the UK, Scotland will be fine having sold more of their assets to D. Trump wink

FarNorth Thu 12-Sep-19 09:49:55

lemongrove you may not be aware but there are a number of people on social media who are making extremely nasty comments about their 'English' brexit and how Scotland should butt out and, preferably, curl up and die.
I think those are the sentiments paddyann is responding to.

(I hope those nasty people are a small minority.)

lemongrove Thu 12-Sep-19 09:58:17

No, I only use GN ( social media wise) FarNorth but think as
paddy always has to ‘have a go’ at anything English, it seemed par for the course. People do get tired of it!
Scotland could have voted to leave the UK last time, but didn’t, and if they are allowed to have another referendum in the next few years then it’s entirely up to them if they wish to leave.

Lessismore Thu 12-Sep-19 09:58:58

It has come to something when the English and the Scots are fighting ( again).

GillT57 Thu 12-Sep-19 10:20:58

We can thank the Conservative and Unionist party for this state of affairs when everyone is blaming the other. But, Lemon I do agree with you; Paddyanne it does get a little tiresome when you use every opportunity to denigrate England and howl your nationalist propaganda, I say this as a Scot by the way.
