Prince Philip's funeral

Because of the pandemic there were only 30 mourners allowed. Apparently Prince Philip designed all the details of his funeral.

Most of us GNetters are younger than PP but still getting on a bit. Have any of you designed your own funeral?

A very dignified and beautiful funeral and service. The music was lovely and very moving.

Not having one. My body is donated, as is my OH.

Not designed exactly, just a few does & don’ts cremation/burials & music/ hymns.
Donations ( if any) to go to etc....... no squabbling , nothing left to fight over ?....... usual response... Ohh Mother !?

I have specified that all my usable organs are harvested and what's left is to be cremated without a service.

Having said that, Prince Philip's funeral was perfect in every way.

Not really, but made my preferences very clear especially the hymns I would NOT like sung...
I really don’t care. The family knows I don’t want a fuss, would prefer no hagiography since I’m a bit of an opinionated old grump - how can a saint be made out of such unpromising material?
As for money, what they haven’t already been given is to be shared equally. They saw how my siblings behaved after my mother died... I sincerely hope they won’t be like that! ?
Prince Philip’s funeral was just like the man, modest and understated.

My family know it must be a secular funeral. I don't think it's up to me to stipulate how to interpret that, since I won't be there and (I hope) they will. Oh, except for one thing - I think they would like that Landrover hearse.

Please accept my apologies Varian I posted on the wrong thread.

My mother in law’s remains weren’t required. I was told that the remains are returned to the family eventually which they need to be prepared for as my friend was quite shocked when this happened nearly a year later just as the family felt they had come to terms with the bereavement. It might have changed but worth finding out.

I’ve just said to my OH that perhaps we should attach some details to our wills. More a case of does and don’ts as above.

I don’t really care, whatever will make them all feel better about it.
Maybe a really big party after, so they can all have drink and remember what an awkward old bat I could be.
But hopefully also remember how much I loved them all.

Yes a direct funeral for both of us. After attending my dear SILs funeral where we all stood about feeling awkward round the house beforehand and after the service standing about longer than necessary admiring the flowers, I decided I didnt want to put our friends and relatives through the same. Whoever is left could arrange a get together a month or so later to remember the departed.

overthehill we have decided on a direct funeral as well, we just have to talk to the ACs about it, trying to find the right time is proving tricky.

No, just mentioned my likes and dislikes.
