Yes good isn't it. The comments are interesting too worth a read. It's more the younger people who want a democratically elected Head of State. But more people could get on board when the truth is pointed out to them.

Well its a free country (despite what some people seem to think) so Grany can post about any legal thing she wants. And anybody can make their comment, of course.

As for who would be head of state, we've answered that about 146 times.

Its gone up to 620 supporters whilst I've been writing this thread. Made about half its target already.

Such as who though Grany? Personally, I think who we have at the moment is doing a pretty good job and has done for decades but, each to their own. Good luck with your petition.

At the moment, I see no reason to change. That could change with time, depending on how the monarchy conducts itself.

Do you want President Johnson, President Starmer, President Corbin, President Cameron, President Blair even? Most of us would have serious issues with one or all of these.

In my experience the sensible decent people are not interested in pushing themselves forward to gain power and the current raft of ego maniac Presidents make me more appreciative of the Royal Family rather than taking them for granted as i’ve tended to do during my lifetime.

My comment Wasn't in praise of this campaign.
In fact, if I saw one of your hoardings I’d deface it.

The monarchy is doing a good job, and we are the envy of a number of countries around the world, so why would you want to change something that is working well? Just look around the world that there is corruption in the voting, the citizens are dictated to, and some flee to this country to get away. I rest my case.

Who are all these countries who are envious of us for having a monarchy? They may admire the Queen but that doesn't mean they want one of their own.

I don't think that many people are fleeing to this country because we have a constitutional monarchy.

I don’t want an elected head of state unless it’s a non interference position.

I’m ok with a slimmed down monarchy.

The notion of an elected president is just another layer of government.

I don't know why we should consider ourselves incapable of choosing our own Head of State...although I realise that, when you consider who we have as our Prime Minister, electing the right person for the job may not be our strongest point.

However, whenever a republican questions the idea of someone being born to rule by an accident of birth, they are always told that the monarch has no real power. If so, why would a Head of State chosen by the people would be worse than one chosen by chance? If we can elect someone to a position of power, why can't we elect someone who is basically a figurehead?

We would need someone who was intelligent, presentable and tactful. Surely there must be a few of them around. The running costs would be much lower than maintaining a royal family and it wouldn't be a job for life, nor would they be able to pass it on to their kids.

What are you getting at Alegrias? Should I not have asked that question? Do you think I was trying to "be clever" when I asked? I thought I was asking out of interest as to who the OP would consider a suitable alternative to the current incumbent but you seem to know what my thoughts are better than me. If that's the case; guess what I'm thinking now.

Shades of Oliver Cromwell, no thanks. We already have new Puritans constantly denigrating all those who disagree with their views. Constitutional Monarchy for me. Someone who works for the country as a whole, not someone Political, because they would be, with many more powers than the Queen has.
