Britain First

The far-right group Britain First has registered as a political party.

In the past, it has been fined £44,000 by the Electoral Commission, has been fined for harassment and the illegal wearing of a political uniform. At least one member has been jailed for religious harassment.

I noticed that some posters had opinions about rumours that Gina Miller is about to form a political party and I'm sure they have opinions about Britain First.

It’s a dead duck, NF by any other name, the vast majority of voters want a move to the left

The voters may want a move to the left but the political parties don’t . When I say left I am not talking socialism.

That is a real conundrum

So why have they bothered registering?

They'll get enough votes to stay in the headlines and justify the odd TV appearance.

The Conservatives had to adopt UKIP policies to win the last election.

PS. Why do people bother commenting about Gina Miller, but not Britain First?

Incidentally, I'm not at all sure that the vast majority of voters do want a move to the left. The evidence shows that they are socially right-wing, as the UK has ever been - hence the Conservatives' introducing culture wars.

No I agree, but what I was trying to say in my cackhanded way was that I think that the voter is instinctively left of the current shower.

Thus my “not socialism” remark.

Groups like this seem to attract losers, mainly men, who need an outlet for their grievances and anger.

With no elections in the offing and Brexit been and gone I assumed they would again target immigration to get a headline or two.

JJ I'm appalled at the idea of them getting involved in anti-abortion activities!

No, it's not just a male group. Jayda Fransen, who is the activist who was jailed, is female. There's also another very vocal female activist, whose name I've forgotten.

Neither Britain First not Gina Miller will get many votes so I don't know why they're bothering. Gives us something to talk about I suppose.

I'm afraid you're underestimating them. They've been harassing asylum seekers and are very active on social media, using various names. They appeal to ex-service personnel and animals rights people (for some reason I don't fully understand).

Neither are worth writing about as far as I’m concerned.

Yet you did contribute to the thread about Gina Miller and expressed your dislike of what she's done. hmm

Oh dear, forgetful in my old age. Gosh I never remember what others have written, you must have had a good scroll through. Well done.

It was only yesterday, on a short thread. Hardly required much effort or scrolling. ?

growstuff Tue 28-Sep-21 08:57:27

I'd been reading about Britain First, then the Gina Miller thread, which is why I started this one. I didn't need to scroll back.

Bringing up who posted what on other threads is goady at best. It’s like being stalked - ‘I’m watching you’ kind of thing.

So do you have an opinion about Britain First's registration as apolitical party Kandinsky?

growstuff Tue 28-Sep-21 09:09:24

Maybe the Britain First leaders want their 15 minutes of fame. wink grin

Don't be daft, that's just having a reasonable memory.

Kandinsky Tue 28-Sep-21 09:15:47

Yes.
I think they’re a dangerous trouble making load of rabble.
They appear to have millions of followers online but hardly any support when it comes to actually getting elected. Thankfully.
