Ingredients255g (9oz) wholemeal flour85g (3oz) white bread flour 28g (1oz) margarine ¾ tsp baking soda ¾ tsp cream of tartar ½ tsp salt 2 tsp sugar 1 large egg 1 carton buttermilk |

Method1. Sift the baking soda, salt and cream of tartar with the flour into a large mixing bowl.2. Rub in the marg and add the sugar. 3. Mix together with the egg and buttermilk. 4. Form into a round and place on a baking tray. 5. With a knife mark a cross on the top and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C. |
