To think that Lloyds Bank were being unreasonable?

When Mum died I rang her bank (I had POA when she was alive) to inform them that I would be keeping her account open for a month because I needed to finalise her affairs.

Fine, they said. When you're ready just bring in a copy of the will and her death certificate and it will only take a moment to close the account.

So,I went in this morning with the right documents. The bank was almost empty and there were no queues at the customer services desks. Somebody eventually sauntered over to deal with me and said I would need to make an appointment as they couldn't close the account there and then.

'Why not?'

'Because there has to be somebody available to sit down and go through it with you'

'I phoned and was told it would be straightforward. Nobody said anything about having to make an appointment and anyway, there is only £4.40 left in the account.'

'Sorry, you have to make an appointment. We can't just do it now?'

'But I will have to make another journey at my expense and if you don't mind me saying so, you're not exactly busy at the moment.'

'Sorry, Friday morning is the earliest appointment you can have.'

I bet I'll be in there less than ten minutes!!! angry angry

I beg to differ, Nonu. The staff at my local branch of Barclays are wonderful! smile

Honey-bunney you can beg to differ all the jolly well like[tee hee] , I am not talking about the local branch staff [they are pretty fine].

I am actually talking about Commercial banking and the strokes they tried to pull over us , but guess what, we came out tops after lots and lots of wrangling, and the Ombudsman .

So sorry to say we are NOT huge fans of Barclays

But at the end of the day, who gives a S---t, .

My life is fine .

[smiles] to you x

Well, lucky old you, *Nonu". Unfortunately, there are people here with real problems with banks.

Lloyds Bank are being difficult in the extreme over DD's account; as she is overseas and then lost her job she found it difficult to pay off her credit card resulting in charges. To avoid charges she asked me to pay it off and she would set up a direct debit to pay me. Will they let me do that? No they will not - fgs I am trying to give them money not take it away - but they obviously prefer people to be in debt so that they can keep charging. They will allow me to pay the minimum payment plus charges - but only if I can guess the correct amount they require - they will not tell me what I can pay.
angry and steam coming out of ears.

That is awful ROSE, FGS, are they nutty or something !!

rosequartz Wed 22-Oct-14 15:18:50

Just bloody-minded I think, Nonu. It was reduced right down then she has had to take a much lower-paid job - there is not that much left on it but I am not allowed to pay it off! (Who would pay their big fat bonuses if they didn't keep charging customers who are struggling?)

Anya Wed 22-Oct-14 23:03:25

Rose surely the bank will tell your daughter how much is owed on her CC and then you can transfer funds into her bank and she can pay it off herself?

Anya Wed 22-Oct-14 23:07:02

If it's any consolation to those having trouble with Llyods, I was thinking of switching banks as my bank is several miles away and Lloyds have a branch within walking distance.

This has decided me not to bother after all so I will keep my millions safely stashed in my current bank (though not in my current account).

Anya, yes we will have to sort something out. I didn't offer before as she was working and paying it off; she is overseas and finds it difficult to contact them due to time differences (she spent nearly an hour on a mobile to them once, and they still failed to act on her instructions despite saying they would).

I could be money laundering you see hmm
