I was asked this question the other day. It could be anyone I was told

After a l o n g time I said Dolly Parton. She is not just a made up bimbo, but a very good business woman, She has taken a big interest in getting young children to read, providing free books to schools, even in the UK. There is a very different side to Dolly from the one projected, I would like to find out more

So, who would you like to have afternoon tea with?

Malala. I would have my teenage GD along to meet her. She is a role model for that generation.

David Attenborough.

Peter Ustinov.

Thomas Hardy, I came to live in Dorset because I love his mind - don't know if he'd love mine, though!

My mother, to ask her all the family stuff we never talked about and I would insist on answers. I have no-one now to ask so I feel very frustrated.

Diana Rigg

Fred Astaire and perhaps we could have a little waltz around the room after tea I would of course be wearing my feather boa.

Freddie Mercury (and the rest of Queen so I can have my own private concert, please)

Liz46 Tue 24-Nov-15 18:31:42

loopylou, I agree about Freddie. I was lucky enough to see Queen twice and I certainly knew I had been to a show! What an entertainer. I remember coming out of the theatre and walking down the street with my ears ringing.

Rick Stein comes across as a lovely man so he would be my other choice.

Hardeep Singh Kohli - he's funny and we could critique the scones together. I know just the place - little tea room that is not open every day of the week. Home made jams.

It would have to be my Dad who has left this earth 7 years ago. It would do anything to spend just another 10 min with him.

My maternal grandmother, she was a young war widow with three little ones, then married my grandfather in 1919 and died giving birth to my mother two years later,

I once watched a cooking demo by Hardeep, JessM. He was very crotchety. Perhaps he was just having a bad day grin

Sir Mortimer Wheeler, whose books fostered in me a life-long love of archaeology. And he had a wonderful moustache!

Oscar Wilde. we would enjoy both the tea and some amusing chat, and I would strongly advise him not to go to litigation with his lover's Father, but to just keep quiet.Stop a lot of misery all round.

Lady C! grin

Loopylou most definitely Freddie Mercury.

tinaf1 Tue 24-Nov-15 22:05:50

Maeve Binchy asked her where she got the ideas for all those great books

fluttERBY123 Tue 24-Nov-15 22:38:12

Elvis or Robert Mitchum - Dolly Parton is a good idea too.

Either (or both) of my parents) they both died when I was a baby. I have so much to ask them and tell them.

My Taiwanese (foster) son - he would enjoy a typical Devonshire afternoon tea. I miss him now that he's returned to Taiwan and because of an accident to his leg he was unable to visit me in September as he'd planned.

David Walliams. I'm curious about him.

Any one of you gransnetters smile

Marelli Wed 25-Nov-15 07:34:32

MariClaire - where do you live? Are there no meet-ups in your area? We have lovely Edinburgh ones. smile
I would love to have afternoon tea with my mother. It's too late now, to ask her a certain question, as she died many years ago. When I was younger, I didn't feel the need to know the answer, but I do now. I may have understood her better if I'd known. sad
I would take her somewhere classy, and pay the bill - she may have felt that (at last!) I'd settled down! wink
