So something good has come out of this referendum! grin

I went to the polling station in the Methodist Church hall. The queue was out of the door!! I've never had to queue to vote before.

Polling day is a nightmare in country areas .

We are usually alone in the polling station apart from the volunteers we'll see how it is this morning, at least its pointing to a high turn out is that a good or bad thing I wonder?

PRINTMISS Thu 23-Jun-16 10:54:57

I have just posted on another thread that we have voted. The poling station was deserted.

NanaandGrampy Thu 23-Jun-16 10:55:50

We've got three of our DGC for the same reason. So we won't vote until this evening but it's usually deserted.

Our village polling station was quite lively.

Nonnie1 - surely the school sent notification to the parents of the school closure! NO?

ninathenana Thu 23-Jun-16 12:30:16

We will be voting when the school closes simply so we can park in the grounds. Otherwise it's a hike. Be interesting to see how busy it is.
D will probably be alone, grin she leaves for college at 6am and doesn't get back until 8.30-9 pm.

Parents don't always pass on information to grandparents. Poor GS1 had no-one supporting him at his Sports Day earlier this week - possibly just as well as he came last in every race he tells me. GS3 had no one at his class assembly either where he received a commendation (in the style of George Washington and the cherry tree) for honesty and bravery after owning up to some naughty behavior straight away hmm

DD was mortified she'd forgotten to ask me to attend both of these.

LullyDully Thu 23-Jun-16 20:45:08

Our council is using the local leisure centre instead of the school. Saves any fines for the day off.grin

Indinana Thu 23-Jun-16 21:44:16

For a few years now our polling station has been at the local fire station. No skin off our nose as the school where it used to be and the fire station are each about 300 yards from our front door in opposite directions. No parking worries for us smile

Indinana Thu 23-Jun-16 21:44:55

Noses. We do have one each.

rubysong Thu 23-Jun-16 22:11:57

DH, as a small child, was quite upset when he went with his parents, to find it wasn't 'boating day', but voting day.

Charleygirl Thu 23-Jun-16 22:19:28

Whatever next- breaking news on my computer at 10pm that the polling stations had closed. Thank goodness.

Anya-at our DGC's school they have a different type of sports day (which I was quite grumpy about at the time-you know, well in MY day, sort of thing!)
It's a bit like a circuits class. They all move round doing different things all the same time and scores are added up and added to a grand total at the end for the house.
I wished we'd had sports days like that-I hated sport, my heart wasn't in it and, apart from quick sprints which I was always good at, I was usually last too.
Hope your GC didn't mind no one being there to cheer him on.

Thanks Newquay GS1 (unlike his brother and cousins who love sport) isn't interested in sport, especially team games. He is ASD and while the other boys (and some girls) play football at lunch and break he can be found with his nose in a book.

I'm hoping next summer, when he is 10 to get him some archery lessons, as I think this might appeal to his inner knight - we live near a famous castle, which often stages archery displays and jousting competitions, and he did express a wish when he was younger to be a 'bowman' hmm

I know that a few GNetters are into this sport.

WilmaKnickersfit Sun 26-Jun-16 09:06:32

When I see archery at events like the Olympics, I always wonder how the competitors got into the sport. For some it will be a family thing, but maybe some are like your GS Anya and mainstream sports just don't appeal. Good luck with your potential archer, they were highly valued in battles! grin
