Not at all unreasonable Alie. Do you want something that is warm and cosy from the winter weather, or a summer retreat that could be away from this time of year, with Pimms and lemonade, the sound of children splashing around in the pool outside, and a holiday book to read whilst you put your feet up.....or something else?
Some place warm, soft and cosy, with good conversation and company.....to get away from the commercialism and hype! Darkish with a log fire and soft lighting?
Why don't we have a virtual cosy retreat round at Greatnan's then (is it ok if we invite ourselves round for lunch Greatnan?) What about a separate thread? Would a log fire be ok in your mountain retreat?
All welcome, when, even though it might get a bit crowded! I have just made a very large pan of chicken broth, packed with vegetables - very good in this weather. Bring your luges and you can slide down the hill behind the flat.
What an image - Gransnetters sliding down mountains! Where do you want these logs? Shall I put them on your balcony? Here's some home-made crusty bread to go with that chicken broth. Where do you keep the glasses Greatnan? I've got some brandy off a passing St Bernard dog.
One thing I have got plenty of - glasses of all shapes and sizes. I bought the flat fully furnished and equipped and they obviously liked a tipple or two! Wonder how the neighbours would feel if we lit a fire on the balcony?
Wouldn't walked you locked up for arson Greatnan! Does this thread need to park itself next to the Gransnet Grotto, so everyone can pop in and out as they choose, depending on whether they've had enough of Christmas cheer or want some relief from it
I hope the ban on Christmas cheer does not extend to a glass or two of Buck's Fizz - I enjoy that all the year round! We just won't mention the C word.
Actually I haven't managed to get there yet....Stuck on the road somewhere in Suffolk - jO, can I stop at your inn tonight? I don't like driving in snow....
- if some of us can meet here, we can all carry on together. Get to Greatnan's eventually!
Just head from Geneva towards Mont Blanc! I will have the champagne chilling. What kind of music shall we have - I have most kinds except rap, grunge and heavy metal! (I don't know what they are!)
Definitely Andy Williams. Neil Diamond? John Denver? Some Country and Western? Brass Bands? Male voice choir? Gregorian Plain Chant? Great Hits of the 50's, 60's and 70s? And for me, 'Now you has jazz'.
Jacques Brel, Mel Tormé, Rosemary Clooney, Jonathan & Darlene Edwards... (perhaps not) Duke Ellington, Spike Jones... The Singers Unlimited.. oh, I could go on...and on...
I'm already beginning to enjoy myself. Shall we have some mulled wine with our afternoon "fancy" [that's a wee cake, I believe.] Someone can put me right if they wish...
