While I was at a village Community Police and Council meeting last night, my daughter was being attacked as she walked home from a self-help group with her friend. She was shot at close range by a BB (?) gun at least 5 times, in her thighs and lower back, as she turned away to protect herself. Apparently a BB gun is a gas-propelled pellet gun. The perpetrator wore a balaclava and demanded their bags. DD told him that they had no money on them and he just shot her. Just like that. Her friend was uninjured and was able to dial 999 as the attacker ran off, and when the police and ambulance arrived she was able to give what description she could, to them.
DD is in hospital, on an anti-biotic drip as the pellets could have been infected by his hands as he loaded the gun. 3 of the pellets will need to remain in her thighs as they are too deep to remove.
My DD has already had to deal with so much emotional stuff over the years, and just when she was attempting to get her life back on track by going to her self-help group this b.....d comes along and does this.
So....I really don't think I'm being unreasonable to want to have a private minute alone with him. One minute would be all I'd need. angry

Hooray Marelli that's great news! Let's hope he gets just what he deserves the bl**der angry - your DD can hopefully start to heal mentally a little faster now he's been caught complete with weapon.

annodomini Thu 09-May-13 14:42:24

Thank goodness for that, Marelli. Let's hope they confiscate that gun and send him down.

grannyactivist Thu 09-May-13 15:39:56

Glad they've caught him Marelli, it will help your daughter to process what happened if she knows the perpetrator will be brought to book. Hope she - and you - are not feeling too shaky today. flowers

shysal Thu 09-May-13 15:41:21

Phew! Thank goodness he has been caught. I hope the punishment will be severe. flowers

Elegran Thu 09-May-13 17:45:35

gillybob Thu 09-May-13 18:00:58

What a terrible attack, hope your daughter recovers physically and mentally and of course that the b@stard that did it is caught and dealt with....have to add that my DD was once attacked and I honestly wanted to physically retaliate, one time in my life I literally shook with anger but I knew that if I did I would have probably ended up in prison and my daughter parentless....

Oldgreymare Thu 09-May-13 22:49:13

What a relief Marelli, now your DD can concentrate on getting well. Hugs to you both.

Sel Thu 09-May-13 23:40:48

marelli this chills the blood. Absolutely awful for you both and unbelievable that someone could just do this. These BB guns should be banned. I hope this guy is dealt with severely and you and your daughter can manage to put this behind you in time flowers to you both.

He was to be in court this morning. Haven't heard anything on the news as yet, but do hope he's remanded in custody. So far his only charge is attempted robbery but I should imagine that other charges will be added (?)
The police have been really good. The Community Policewoman phoned me yesterday offering support and the Police Safety Officer phoned this morning offering a line of support for me to give DD. Describing how Victim Support would help her through the ensuing court case.
Thank you all again. flowers

Marelli if he fired deliberately, intending to harm your daughter, he should be charged with Section 18 Grievous Bodily harm/Wounding with Intent. If he can prove he didn't intend to harm her (how on earth he'd do that when he fired several pellets into her, I can't imagine), it's Section 20 Wounding. He could also be charged with Aggravated Attempted Robbery. All indictable offences that go to the Crown Court, and attract a prison sentence.

I hope you've both had a better night's sleep smile

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 15:41:42

Thank you for that, when. I've told my son that and DH. (It's a bit of a comfort in an odd way).

whenim64 Fri 10-May-13 15:47:08

2 to 4 years prison sentence for that sort of offence in England, Marelli. Don't know about Scotland, but probably simiar.

whenim64 Fri 10-May-13 15:47:50

....similar!

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 15:55:47

Hopefully, it will be even longer here.....though unlikely, I suppose.
I would like to see him standing at the bottom of a deep well, knee-deep in water, with rats swimming around in it. But that would be too good for him. angry

Is your daughter actually home now Marelli?

Marelli Fri 10-May-13 16:33:10

She got home last night, number. I've not been able to see or speak to her because her phone's been off, and I always read that as a message that she doesn't want to be bothered by anyone. I did contact DGD (she has her own house) who said that she'd phoned DD's friend 'J' who was involved in the attack but not injured. J was there with DD and so DGD was able to speak to her mum. She's very tired. I'm going to wait until other DGD gets home from work, (she still lives at home) then phone her. If her mum wants to talk she will, and if it's ok for me to pop up, I'll go tonight. She's just 15 minutes away on the bus. Must tread carefully and not overwhelm.

Flowerofthewest Fri 10-May-13 16:34:46

This is terrible, so sorry I hope she recovers well and can put this behind her. I'll join you if they catch him.
