Political incorrectness I do miss it!

There are so many things it is now inappropriate to make jokes about.

As I said on another thread my grandmother was a scriptwriter for my grandad in the music hall. He would tell jokes to the audience about his wife that would now be thought inappropriate. My Nan used to laugh as she had written them all.

I used to love watching 'Life on Mars' at D.I. Gene Hunt with all his sexist comments. I didn't agree with what he said, just how he said it.

Have we lost our sense of humour ?

Having seen photos of Ariadne and GrannyTwice I can confirm that they are both masquerading as the Duchess of Cambridge and should be denounced for confusing ninny grin

ninny Mon 21-Jul-14 18:45:03

Can Ariadne not speak for herself.

whenim64 Mon 21-Jul-14 18:46:49

No, she's putting Prince William to bed! grin

Galen Mon 21-Jul-14 18:54:50

I would second that. Ariadne is however extremely good at mazes!

Nonu Mon 21-Jul-14 18:57:51

Bit early for William unless they are have a sneaky little hanky-panky!

I think the "paddy" thing started when gangs of Irish road and building workers came over to the mainland. They did get themselves a bad reputation for getting drunk and being aggressive, but the name just meant "irish".

Sorry to interrupt the other conversation, but I'm on a bit of a roll now.

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 21-Jul-14 18:59:21

That's not to say that Irish people in general get drunk and are aggressive! shock

Ana Mon 21-Jul-14 19:02:57

Nonu! grin

I have particularly enjoyed reading tegan's posts on this thread as not being preconceived or unduly influenced by so-called correctness, but just thoughtful and thought-provoking.

Ariadne Mon 21-Jul-14 19:53:37

Can't spend too much time online - had a cataract op last Friday and am guarding my eyes.

But I am me, and only me. Promise you that. Maybe a look at our profiles would help?

An egg is an egg, as the French might say.

Tegan Mon 21-Jul-14 20:12:21

.....I'm still worrying about the ducks, bags sad....

Ana Mon 21-Jul-14 20:17:29

GrannyTwice has no profile, Ariadne - but I know you are you! smile

Galen Mon 21-Jul-14 20:31:34

Ducks? I'm completely confused. I thought I'd read all the posts, but ducks?

GrannyTwice Mon 21-Jul-14 20:32:18

I do have a profile - just not on here. I have to say that George had not settled well tonight. It's a bit sticky and I expect he's a bit over excited about tomorrow - I wonder if R4 will play the national amthem before the news?

Ana Mon 21-Jul-14 20:57:07

Ah! That explains it.

Ariadne Mon 21-Jul-14 21:13:01

Galen am a but slow tonight, but yes, Theseus and I do have a history with mazes and labyrinths. And string. moon

NanKate Mon 21-Jul-14 21:13:34

Have I been transported to another Galaxy ?

I've read a few of the recent posts and I can't make heads nor tails of them. hmm

I see duck mentioned - can I have mine crispy with a nice rich sauce and Wrapped in one of those tortilla/pancake thingys ?

This must be the site of a Chinese (no derivative of that word acceptable) Restaurant. grin

Finally has the George mentioned got a royal grandmama ?

GrannyTwice Mon 21-Jul-14 21:28:43

Galaxy - used to live those- do they still make them?

GrannyTwice Mon 21-Jul-14 21:29:24

love

Galen Mon 21-Jul-14 21:35:37

Ariadne just watch out for Minotaurs, although I think on the whole they are an endangered species.
Haven't seen one since I last attended a post rugby match in the union bar at Birmingham University!
(Vague memories of 'hold him down you Zulu warrior' and something about an engineer and a wheel?)

jinglbellsfrocks Mon 21-Jul-14 21:37:21

Oh blimey! This is going down the pan. hmm

So?

Re political correctness and ducks: people take stale bread to the park to feed ducks. This fills them up but does not provide adequate nutrition; in other words it harms their health and is therefore a bad idea.

JessM Tue 22-Jul-14 07:00:51

The bread also pollutes a pond and reduces it to a wildlife desert.
