No rose they were shoes not sandals and my best friend had them (ox blood).I lusted after them. They were dark reddish brown. And I'm sure the style was a for runner of the "penny loafer"if you know them. I should say this was around 1950/51!!!

Ann do you mean Clarks' Jonquils? I was thinking about them yesterday and couldn't find a link.
They were slip-on shoes, the top came half-way down the top of your foot, and there was a strap across the top of the leather, with a buckle at the side. They were a dark red-brown colour.

All the older girls had them at my secondary school, but for the first year I had to wear my old lace-ups. I finally got a pair in the second form and thought I was the bees' knees.

I can't recall that name janea all I know is that I really really wanted a pair.As you say they were the bees' knees and so were the girls who had them.

Jonquils were one of the styles on the list of approved indoor shoes at my school. I remember having at least one pair but I think they were light tan not ox blood.
