Was feeling a bit miffed.

My first posting...when my DS and DD were little, I said no presents but I would love a home made card. Like Valentine's Day it's all so commercial. Despite often being abroad with my DH, they both (now around 40) send a card without fail which I appreciate. There might be a small gift if we are together but I don't expect that, I know they love me and that is more than enough for me. Next weekend I shall be with DS for a separate family celebration and I know he won't forget mum! We all live miles apart.

Loving that a few people have been introduced to the Fuckit Bucket.

I occasionally chuck the contents of mine on to an imaginary bonfire. ?

Not aimed at any Gransnetters. The notion that a certain date on the calendar matters because it is commercially beneficial to business, is pure poppycock.

Thank you Badenkate! It's also DH birthday and our WA on Friday so he and I have planned a major pamper en route to DS. Lots going on so I won't be too miffed if my nose is put out of joint by DIL's mother, who clearly doesn't like me much. Hey ho, it's her loss, I say!

DS and DD now in their 50s- Mother's Day always gone unnoticed. No, did have card once, made at school. DD told me her daughter is taking her it to Lunch!

Any Mothers Day messages sent to me have to come over the air waves via text, email or even Face Ache. We live on a narrow boat so my grown up children can only visit I'd they can find us and can hardly expect the poor old post man to come hurtling along the tow path on his bike trying to track us down

Things have changed since my daughter, and daughter in law became mothers themselves. I think they should have their day. I've had years of Mothers Days. I know I will get a card off them both. That's enough for me.

But soop. It's not only commercial, is it? And we have had Mothers Day/Mothering Sunday for quite a few years, haven't we? I know daughters aren't out in service anymore, but it's nice to keep old traditions going. And why shouldn't we have a special day?

I remember the days when mine were little. We used to go to the Cradle Roll service at the local church. All the mums got a little hand-tied posy from someone's garden. Was so nice.

Loved the reference to fuckit bucket. My bucket overfloweth. There seem to be so many 'special' days brought about no doubt by the makers of cards etc. I believe there is a grandparents day but don't know when it is.I do like the custom in Greece where they have a name day. All the family and extended family get together to celebrate with the person whose day it is, e.g. Mary.

I seem to have missed out on Mother's day somehow. Until they died I was DD and (not dear)DiL with 2 visits and 2 cards & presents to organise. I used to think that it should be renamed Granny's Day as both Mum and MIL made a great fuss of their DGDs and more or less ignored me. During the brief period when I was the only Mum in the family my DDs lived elsewhere, only moving nearby when they started their own families and (quite rightly) became the focus of attention on Mother's Day. I'm not complaining as I believe that is how it should be Just sorry that it was never my turn.

I shall be having my divorced daughter and her children over for Sunday lunch. My younger daughter will spend it with her husband and children.
I still like to call it 'Mothering Sunday' and a bunch a daffodils will gratefullly be received.

Like to get a card which I usually do off did and ds I worry more that son will forget to get GC to send card to dil it's far too commercial now we are going to daughters for homemade pizza which her partners making and we are seeing son sat for his daughters 4th birthday party so a full weekend for us to all on gransnet happy Mother's Day whatever you doing ???

I was out to lunch today with DD1 , she told me it is my Mothers day treat


I am quite happy with that

I don't like going for meals (out) on Mothers Day, too busy and poor service.

The BBC has an interesting page on Mothering Sunday www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/christianity/holydays/motheringsunday_1.shtml. I can always hear my DM's voice telling me as a child that it's Mothering Sunday, so I always try to find an appropriate card.

My DH and I are in trouble with the church because I didn't realise it was so early this year and have booked a holiday . This means I won't be there to play the organ and DH won't be there to cook umpteen eggs with the other men of the village for the women at our annual Parish Breakfast. It's a lovely event although I find it hard to be nice to people so early in the morning. It was even featured on Look Northwest last year.

And on the way to our holiday, we'll get to see both our DD and DS plus families - a real bonus and pretty unusual as they live in't south.

And I'm a bit miffed because we bought new clothes in M&S on Saturday and there's 20% off today!

I am another who doesn't mind forgoing Sunday lunch on mothering Sunday, it is usually a bull bait.
DS and DIL visited on Saturday and left a gift in case we don't see each other this week, DD is in Belgium but always sends flowers. I really do not expect to be made a fuss of because my family are kind and caring all the time. GC are always painting pictures or making cards for me and I love that.
