Men!

Toady I had to go to rehearsal at 6 pm and switched the oven on and put some duck legs in. I asked him if he would prepare the vegetables to go with it - how do you do that? he asked. To be fair I told him what to do and he did it. He is 70! Hmm.

In all the years we have been married I think DH has made me u cup pf tea on about 4 occasions. Each time I was too ill to drink anything, let alone his idea of tea! When I have suggested that he should make his own coffee he tells me it is so much nicer when someone else makes it. He is incapable of seeing that I might feel the same.

If I go out for the day I will come home to find that he has not bothered to go to the fridge and get the lunch I left for him, he will have had nothing to drink and will probably have forgotten his insulin! And this man has somehow survived long enough to retire!

Fish fingers, oven chips and peas are my (not so) secret favourite supper Anya served with with lashings of tomato ketchup .

Anya I get the perennial decision making question on what we are going to eat and it drives me mad. I seem to have the opposite situation to most on here!
I like pretty simple food but DH likes all the bells and whistles sauces, accompaniments and coatings. I shouldn't complain at all since DH does the cooking nowadays but he gets so complicated and aims for such perfection that it is exhausting. He does enjoy cooking and is very good at it which is fantastic but sometimes all you want/need is a steak or a chop flashed in the grill and thrown on a plate with a bit of salad. For example one of his friends came round with some fish after one of his fishing trips and I was salivating about something simple like it being quickly fried in butter but then out came the recipe books! I could have cried! I don't mean to whinge but I would love something plain and simple but he gets complicated and then he gets so tired and then I feel so guilty.
I know! I should be much more grateful and accept whatever comes with a good grace!

N&G The Wonderful Man has made himself rice pudding sandwiches before now (to use up leftovers) and probably wouldn't turn a hair to find something unusual in a sandwich. However he cooks most of his own meals nowadays as our schedules and diets are very different at the moment.

What do you mean by forage? do you go into the woods and collect strange things to eat?

If I forage It'll be cheese, biscuits and an apple. If my husband forages it'll be something like a sausage sandwich or bacon and eggs. Guess who is nice and slim and who isn't?

He'll eat a couple of doughnuts mid afternoon and I'll have rich tea biscuits.

Life is so unfair, eh?
