I have builders working here at present. The young electrician thought that I was 87, I am 73 but his father who is in his late 40's thought that I was 60 and possibly still working. I said that the father could stay and the young lad could go!

Kim, I'm with you 100%. I had been talking to the nurse about my holiday, (long haul) and I asked about when I would be looking respectable enough to get back to work etc. So I believe in her mind I was younger than I am. It is a state of mind. I take a neighbour to the same hospital in a wheelchair and am regularly assumed to be his daughter. He is eight years older than me!

Not that long ago it would have been a ridiculous question to ask a lady of a certain age , but not today, when women in their sixties are having babies.

love it,,when I met my gynaecologist for the first time two years ago ,he looked at my notes ,walked to the door and shouted the receptionist in,said she had given him the wrong notes.No ,she said these are Mrs W,cant possibly be he said the birthdate on these is at least 10 years too early.I was delighted,after I left that appointment I went a shop 4 miles from where I live to return a top I'd bought for my daughter ,I told the assistant she'd said it was too small and was I trying to tell her she was fat....the assistant said ,"dont worry they're all like that when they hit their teens" She ,s well out of her teens shes 36 I said and the woman behind asked if I'd had her when I was 12 !!The assitant said theres no way you have adaughter that old ....lol Twice in one day,it fairly cheers you up

A friend of mine has recently had a hysterectomy and, as often happens, has "swelly belly". She is quite embarrassed that people might think she is pregnant in her 50s.

The phlebotomist at my surgery and I were talking about the weather a few weeks ago. She said that the 'oldies' were all panicking about the threat of snow. I was flattered that she didn't consider me to be one of them!

I went to a new hairdressers last year. When I paid I thought to myself," Well that was a lot cheaper than I expected " once home I looked at the price list on their website, I had been charged senior citizen prices for over 65's! I was and still am 59. I continue to pay these prices as they don't seem bothered to ask me how old I am. I have to say I only look my age and not old. At first I was quite annoyed but now I just count the pennies I save.

12 years ago, my sister was staying with me after my hip replacement. A friend came to visit and asked, 'Is this your daughter?' Sister was thrilled, tho' I was somewhat disconcerted!
I would never reject an offer of help with my suitcase. In fact, today, travelling home from Oxfordshire, I wished more people would make that offer! If I rejected this kindness, the person might be discouraged from doing it again. Mind you, I'm 76 and am beginning to look my age - having lost some weight, my wrinkles show up more!

going little off piste here to tell something that happened a few years back( if that's ok?). I was looking for a new mobile, and my Son happened to be with me. I was about 55 at the time, and he 28. He had long curly hair half way down his back, and a kind of heavy metal look about him. I was probably in my regulation jeans and top. What got me though was that as soon as we walked in the phone shop the guy came over, almost nudged me out of the way and spoke directly to my Son, obviously thinking he was the one after a trendy new phone. My Son didn't say a word, he kind of turned and did a quite dramatic half bow to me, then told the Guy it wasnt him he should be speaking to, but me.
Guy goes all smarmy to me then. I said " You blew it matey. I am off to find a shop where they don't make assumptions, or discriminate. I hope you learn a lesson from this, and we flounced out
