to hate this weather

I'm sitting here, sweating. Not even doing anything, just melting like an ice lolly. I haven't got the energy to do anything. Roll on the end of the week and sensible weather.

Phoebes Tue 20-Jun-17 14:20:51

What about the poor horses running at Ascot in this heat? I hope they all survive.

maisiegreen Tue 20-Jun-17 14:23:44

Cheers for that Victoria. I don't mind cold weather as it happens

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:24:57

However, the nights start to draw in again from tomorrow
Heyho* I thought that yesterday too grin

I don't hate this weather but it is a bit of a trial if you are having to do any work in the heat.

This is not really humid - try the tropics!

Don't forget to take some salt in this weather - yes, I know it is supposed to be bad for you but most of us need it when it is extremely hot.

Day6 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:27:54

People have mentioned good weather and being grateful for it. For me there is NOTHING good about the horrible, sticky, airless days which are increasingly typifying British summer time.

Where is the breeze? A sunny day with a breeze is lovely, pleasant and invigorating, but a humid day where not a leaf stirs and everything is still, is vile, IMO.

Follow that with a night so hot that bedrooms are like ovens. Where is the joy?

I feel lethargic, headachy and rather unwell in this horrible, clammy weather and I pity those having to travel or work in it. I haven't done much at all except sit in the shade with cold drinks. To sit, sweating because it is so hot is no fun. To move means everyone, even the young, are drenched with sweat in no time. Thank goodness for fans. We've had one on all night long in the bedroom recently.

Like others I love sunny Autumn or spring days when the skies are blue, the sun shines, there is a breeze and it's a joy to be out in it.

I am beginning to dread our summers. They are humid and not much else. We need storms to lower the temperature, but then the awful heat without a breeze hits again. There's been a repeat performance of this for quite a few summers recently and it's not pleasant.

I love our changing seasons. I don't mind the rain or the cold, but now that summer = humidity I begin to dread them.

Rosina, your post made me laugh out loud! Thank you!

I share your feelings. Humidity isn't good, ever. I loathe it too.

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:34:05

There is a bit of a breeze here today thank goodness.

I prefer this to a summer where it never stops raining.

Are you drinking enough fluid (water!) Day6 - being dehydrated can give you a headache and make you feel unwell.
#NannyJamlima - again

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:34:30

Jamlima??

The heat is going to my head grin

Lilylilo Tue 20-Jun-17 14:37:40

This weather is TOTALLY FAB........we sat in the garden with gin and tonics all evening watching the bats flying about, listening to the dusk chorus, spotting Mr Fox on his rounds and watching the sky grow dark. Absolutely wonderful!

Day6 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:43:19

Thanks Jalima..yews, drinking lots of water. It's my go to drink. Even my beloved tea isn't tempting me in this weather.

OH laughs at me because of my regular "no movement in the trees" reports. I am beginning to get really excited if a leaf moves, indicating a bit of air movement! Sadly, everything remains still.

It's horrible.

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:48:22

Not meaning to be a bossy boots grin

I don't like plain water much so I usually squeeze some lemon juice or lime juice into it.
But I do still like a cup of tea and drank a mug of iced coffee this morning.

Jalima1108 Tue 20-Jun-17 14:49:01

and there is quite a breeze coming in through this window which faces east.

I hate this weather too. Coming back from a hospital appointment on the bus I could feel that my arms weren't just moist, they were WET. I'm in a sleeveless summer dress but still feel uncomfortably damp.
Got up at six this morning and did the washing and meal preparation before it got too hot again. Flippin' heck. Even the cat doesn't like it - he's spread himself across the skirting board to try to get cool.

I don't like this weather, partly because it is not pleasant living in a city during it, but mainly because it taps into one of my (many) anxieties. That anxiety is about climate change and the way weather is becoming more extreme and temperatures are increasing. I have apocalyptic fears about the planet burning up, water wars breaking out in some countries whereas others are submerged by rising seas. I also fear extremes of heat in cities because tempers do become frayed after nights of not being able to sleep. The 2011 riots broke out in a period of hot weather and with tempers (justifiably) so volatile at the moment I dread a recurrence. I won't be offended if I see you running off if I approach you!

My neighbours are having their garden made over, started yesterday.
It would seem that it is mostly slab and paving and the noise and dust while they are cutting tiles and slabs is horrendous so we are driven indoors but they are good neighbours and very kind to us so we are putting up with it.
Quite cool indoors actually.

Come to the Isle of Skye (Scottish Highlands)! First day of proper sunshine for weeks and it's about 54F/12c. Have a day's holiday today so am in the garden enjoying whilst I can, though when the breeze drops midges are making themselves felt so I may have to go in shortly.

But you have my sympathy as extreme heat is hellish. Experienced 41C when visiting my son in Oz about 3 years ago. Not a pleasant experience!

Hope you all cool down soon!

annodomini Tue 20-Jun-17 16:07:17

It's a year since we had such heavy rain that the drains couldn't cope, we were flooded and my garden became a lake. So I am pleased to have a proper heatwave. I know it won't last so it's time to relax and put my feet up in the middle of the day and enjoy the morning and evening in the garden.

Lilylilo Tue 20-Jun-17 16:54:31

PLEASE ALL CHEER UP!!!
Smell the gorgeous perfume from flowers out now like, orange blossom, roses, gardenia, honeysuckle !!
Enjoy the feel of soft air on your skin
Treasure the mornings when you can just don a cotton dress and slip your feet into sandals
Make the most of these months with no heating bills!!!!
And finally please enjoy the long days when it stays light until 10 pm.
It's all free to enjoy!!!

We just aren't geared up to this weather in the Uk. In Italy and Spain, houses have thick walls, stone, or tiled floors, ,air con in newer homes , outdoor shady eating spaces, people have a midday break or siesta and eat later in the day Wish I was there!

Kim19 Tue 20-Jun-17 17:08:56

Well done LilyLilo. I'm cheered.....

NonnaW Tue 20-Jun-17 17:26:51

Love this weather. Yes it's hot, and I'm sorry for my dogs but I hate the cold. I love being able to just wear shorts and t-shirt instead of layering up in vests etc.....reminds me of the lovely three years spent in Cyprus.
That said, I do feel for people who are working in this heat, and commuting must be a nightmare. However, I will enjoy it while it lasts, as DH keeps reminding me that it's all downhill from tomorrow!

Norah Tue 20-Jun-17 17:33:27

I love this weather, the breeze is lovely and cooling.

whitewave Tue 20-Jun-17 17:46:17

There is a lot to enjoy. We were walking early this morning and what the heat does do is bring out all the smells of the plants. So walking through pines -lovely whiffs of pine. Walking through - all the different vegetation on the Suffolk coast and all the different smells, it was delightful, bees buzzing, birds busy on the mud flats oh so lucky I am to be able to enjoy it all.

Smithy Tue 20-Jun-17 17:49:56

Well said Lilylilo. It doesn't last more than a few days you just have to go with the flow.
And I've done my share of going to work in a heat wave, still preferred that to sitting in a cold draughty office. Up here in the chilly north east most folks are grateful up for a few hot days as we get about 355 per annum of the other kind.

rosesarered Tue 20-Jun-17 17:59:13

Well, we are all different grin so to all those Rebecca's of Sunnybrook Farm on the thread, some of us don't like this ghastly weather! In fact, reading the posts, more don't like it than do.Bring on the rain that was promised.???

Lilylilo Tue 20-Jun-17 18:06:19

Perhaps it's living in fabulous East Anglia whitewave!! With access the our wonderful coastline, the sea breezes, the forests and delightful villages!!!
