Does anyone else really hate this time of year ?

Am I alone in being so depressed by all this Christmas stuff being rammed down our throats ? I really cannot stand the music in the shops and even outside our local Asda to-day . I hear about Christmas eve boxes for children , elfs on shelf and people were in an uproar because a garden centre was told by Warner Brothers to take down their Harry Potter themed display . What ever did Harry Potter have to do with Christmas ? If only it was a Christian festival with carols kept in the church I would be happy but every year it gets worse. I always give to feed homeless people at Christmas and gave lots of toys to our local toy appeal but as for the rest bah humbug . Someone did a poll and asked people if they would be happy if it all went overnight and over 50 % said they would be.
Believe me I do not grudge the money for presents for the DGC or the cost of food and drink but I just really cannot stand the rest . A friend agreed with me that one of the problems is all the memories it brings back and the feeling of guilt that maybe you could have done more for some members of your family at this time . Please just knock me out until the third of January.

Just caught sight of my forehead in a mirror. Eleven midge bites, not one or two! They won't itch at "this time of year" wink

cherry, 'twas I who took down the xmas tree in the end. I probably wanted the table it was on for something else hmm grin

Your post at 13.49 annie.
I’ll keep quiet in future and not risk meddling.

I'm wondering the same thing, galen.

A furbie is a perfect example of all that is wrong with Christmas

Baggs Tue 19-Dec-17 17:07:44

Just googled them. Bloody hell! ?

MawBroon Tue 19-Dec-17 17:33:20

I always think at Christmastime about something one of my bosses said at the Christmas works do. Strangely enough this is someone who I disliked totally and hated working for, but he said that, the good thing about Christmas is it makes you put the effort into getting in touch with people that you've been meaning to contact all year but haven't got round to doing so. And he was right. Rings true even more for people like me who procrastinate terribly. I haven't got my tree out yet; I may not do so as no one is coming here and, like Baggs, if I do it may hang around for quite a long time. Some decorations never actually make it back into their box. The penguins have been in the living room for years and I think Santa and Reindeer will probably stay with them indefinitely.

Maw, no apology , it was a misunderstanding, I need to put brain in gear before hitting the keys ? X

Anniebach Tue 19-Dec-17 18:14:52

I admit I thought the furbie rather sweet ?, was even a little tempted but didn't

MissAdventure Tue 19-Dec-17 18:17:34

My daughter bought herself and me one. I like them.

Anniebach Tue 19-Dec-17 18:27:26

They are cute ?

maryeliza54 Tue 19-Dec-17 18:29:46

They are commercialised rubbish

MissAdventure Tue 19-Dec-17 18:31:04

But cute all the same.

Cherrytree59 Tue 19-Dec-17 18:35:55

Its a toy!
What toys are not 'commercialised' ??
Unless they are fashioned at home out if wood or knittedhmm

The only reason I hated DDs was cos it was faulty and screeched at every opportunity. After all that money it cost too.

No, not a fan of the worst aspects of Christmas and yes, we can pick or chose but only to some extent. Right now the TV is wall to wall Christmas, ditto the radio and magazines etc. I can stay away from the shops and opt in or out of how much Christmas comes into my house but it would be nice if there was a little moderation and some consideration from those who pump it out for weeks on end. Bah humbug!

MawBroon Ignore it. We all have a right to join in the discussion as long as people aren't gratuitously unkind which you clearly weren't. Happy Christmas.

Well I don’t know what radio you listen to but here in my R4 bubble I’m listening to a lot of interesting non-Christmassy programmes. I hardly watch TV - tend to use it to watch downloaded/ recorded films.
