Thank you, I think of you every time I use my vote

boheminan Sun 10-Jun-18 23:00:52

Thank you from me and my three daughters, none of whom would be able to vote without your fight so long ago for our right to do so

Thank you, all you brave, passionate women. I have voted at each election and by-election since I was eighteen years old. My right to vote was hard won and I cherish it. ?

As my name implies, I like to think that I would have donned a sash and sallied forth to join with other marchers if I'd been around at that time. I am grateful to those women - and of course, men - who championed the cause of votes for women. So, it's thanks from me too.

Thank you to all who have fought for women's rights, not only the vote, and those who are doing so today.

The Suffragettes and Suffragists complimented each other, although the Suffragetes were getting rather out of hand before the war started. I thank both organisations, especially my nana who went to rallies, marched and considered herself a Suffragist.

Thank you. I hope we can carry on you fight for our rights and you would be proud of us as we are of you.

I don't think I'd have been brave enough to be force fed. But a thank you from me and a poke in the ribs with my walking stick to alll those young women who don't bother to vote.

A great big Thank You to all those who helped, and are still helping, women along the bumpy road to equality.

Thank you to all those who campaigned for equal votes. We must not let them down.

Smileless2012 Mon 11-Jun-18 11:44:24

Thank you for your courage and commitment to a just cause and thanks to you Bridgeit for starting this thread.

Bridgeit Mon 11-Jun-18 12:01:48

Thanks Smileless,
I have to say I thought the ladies on here would have had more to say about the Suffergettes.

Tweedle24 Mon 11-Jun-18 12:18:58

Thank you suffragists and suffragettes alike. Also, thank you for all the equally brave women who bucked the trend and took on ‘men’s jobs’ against all the opposition.

Having watched Lucy Worsley's slightly light weight programme about the subject( felt she could have been a bit more cross but perhaps she was going for balance so as not to offend the men). Honestly some women were brutally force fed scores if not a hundred times! I was, however, reminded of what those women went through and as it stood the programme could be used in schools to remind everyone. Thankyou for all that you did!
And to any young woman who does not bother to exercise her right.....shame on you!

Thanks to everyone who fought for us. I would not have been so brave. I always use my vote. Its unbelievable that we are still not treated equally in the 21st century.

Lisalou Sun 17-Jun-18 07:58:23

Thank you

shysal Sun 17-Jun-18 10:40:59

And thank you from me.

Mapleleaf Sun 17-Jun-18 15:24:21

Thank you. ?

Blinko Sun 17-Jun-18 16:06:06

Isn't this like pressing the 'Like' button on FB?

However much we acknowledge and are grateful for what was achieved (together with the timely intervention of WWI) who will see these Thanks? What good will it do? Who listens? What's the point?

Alima Sun 17-Jun-18 16:11:16

Thank you from me too (even if nobody does see it).

Scribbles Sun 17-Jun-18 18:26:15

Thank you. I try to use my vote wisely - not always easy but I've always used it.

Bridgeit Sun 17-Jun-18 20:59:23

Blinko , I just thought it would be a nice gesture on Gransnet to have 100 thank yous to acknowledge 100 years of women having the vote.

mcem Sun 17-Jun-18 21:07:32

I'm not in any way ungrateful to the Suffragists and Suffragettes but feel that drawing on memories of strong women in our families and discussing the achievements of the Pankhursts
et al is a more meaningful way of celebrating women's suffrage.

trisher Mon 18-Jun-18 08:38:35

But it's a nice thought to ask for 100. Although we should remember is only 90 years since women got the vote on an equal basis with men.

knickas63 Mon 18-Jun-18 16:53:01

Thank you!
