Yes, that one, you wouldn't dream of using (would you?)

The one I am talking about suggests we spend our days cackling like hyenas at the slightest thing.
Now I am the first to admit there may not be a "lorra lorra laughs" out there, but laugh out loud? Really?

(I cringe at C U L8ter too just to show I am not entirely biased)

LOL?

The worst ever use of the crass LOL is when a poster adds it to their own allegedly funny comments. Is it an instruction? A reminder? Or just a desperate need for acknowledgement of their own sense of humour. Grrrr.
HTH

I never understand what all these acronyms mean and quite frankly not interested, I’m alway googling what they mean on here. I mean who would refer, when having a conversation with someone, to their children and husband with the prefix of darling all the time.

Dislike 'em all but especially OMG (Oh my God)
Most of the users probably don't acknowledge the existence of God anyway...

No, you are not being unreasonable, MawBroon. However, I suspect that those who did not grow up in Scotland in the 1950s or '60s have no idea who Maw and Paw Broon were, or Oor Wullie either.

So nobody is guessing my made up ones?! The winner gets a bunch of flowers

Rufus2 Wed 20-Jun-18 14:33:22

Here's one I like; it definitely applies to me!

OBE "Over Bloody Eighty"

Awarded for Long Service. There's a lot of them at our lawn bowls club. grin

MawBroon
No, you are not being unreasonable. Even if you didn't know the person ( through you) if you read the posts you would understand the very sad back story flowers

petra Wed 20-Jun-18 14:38:44

I do use PMSL with my daughter. Because sometimes it's true grin

Family Hold Back!

BlueBelle Wed 20-Jun-18 15:37:54

I ve never come across ‘family holding back’ Thanks for the info Mary and I ve never heard of Maw and Paw Broon or Wulley who ever they were I must have led a very sheltered life

Nanny41 Wed 20-Jun-18 16:26:04

The only one I use is TLC which we have used in the Nursing profession for at least fifty years,so some acronyms arent new.I think everyone should show a little TLC

GabriellaG Wed 20-Jun-18 16:52:22

Petra
Opposed...lol grin

Conni7 Wed 20-Jun-18 17:12:38

I don't understand the initials on Gransnet either.

Then you must never have read any of my posts BlueBelle
But who am I to complain, only lost my life partner. hmm

Grandmama Wed 20-Jun-18 18:58:41

Teenage years - SWALK on the back of an envelope (yes, we sent letters in those days) - sealed with a loving kiss.

More recently: TGIF - Thank God it's Friday.

I do find the acronyms on Gransnet a bit off putting and puzzling. Its easier to read and understand posts without them. Maybe you get used to them over time. However I know if I was typing with one finger I would probably want to use abbreviations. I access Gransnet on a computer with a keyboard and was a 40 words a minute typist.

BlueBelle Wed 20-Jun-18 19:08:19

Well of course I ve read your posts Mawbroon and of course I knew when you lost you husband but grandtante said if you didn’t grow up in Scotland in the 50 or 60 s you wouldn’t know who Maw and paw Broon or Willie were so I presumed your name cane from some well known Scottish story or something Is that wrong ?

MawBroon Wed 20-Jun-18 19:18:49

Of course not Bluebelle and it wasn’t you who asked “ what Paw meant.
I just thought anybody seeing Maw might have been able to make the “leap” to Paw hmm

Funnygran Wed 20-Jun-18 19:38:19

I have a friend whose text messages are always full of acronyms. Takes me ages to work out what she means and it annoys me to death. Or am I just a GOW (grumpy old woman)!

BlueBelle Wed 20-Jun-18 19:41:53

Well of course I did know that Maw and Paw were you and your husband .....it was the story and wullie that threw me
Sorry if I upset you didn’t intend too

MawBroon Wed 20-Jun-18 20:02:00

No probs

Doodle Wed 20-Jun-18 20:18:02

I also have never heard of Maw and Paw Broon other than in the context of maw and her beloved paw but it is obvious to all surely if paw was in bold and someone had seen the name on GN often, how could you possibly not understand who the lovely paw was. Sooty if you have been upset maw

Doodle Wed 20-Jun-18 20:19:09

X posts. Sooty is sorry too blush

maddy629 Thu 21-Jun-18 05:42:03

These acronyms are no worse than DS, DD or any of the other acronyms we use on here LOL, sorry, I could not resist it.

BlueBelle Thu 21-Jun-18 05:51:05

Grrrrrrrrr Maddy ?

I d love to see the end to all DD and. DS s ? I don’t see why we have to do it just because mumsnet do it, can’t we be more original or at least if you’re going to make a post about a hugely difficult daughter or son, change the ds to fs
???
