I'm 67. I met my 57 year old sister yesterday. I was wearing Robell tight stretchy beige/cream coloured trousers which I love. Got a spot on them, was moaning I'd only put them on. Sister said you shouldn't wear beige trousers anyway. only old ladies wear beige trousers! I thought it was a strange thing to say. Would appreciate views. truth please.

Well we are all entitled to our opinions trisher but if you think that the outfits that you described are any less ageing well good for you.
I am sure that you look as good as you can in your straight leg cotton trousers or wider legged linen ones with your variety of tops but rest assured I look pretty good in my 3/4 leggings and my tunic tops - well my mirror and my husband certainly tell my that I do smile

I think it depends on the material and style. Elastic waist and crimlene type material - no no! However I have a pair of dark cream cotton chino type trousers and very pale cream linen wide leg trousers which are cool and look elegant with a nice bright top. My other trousers are all bright colours except for one navy pair ( hate black and look awful in it) . Also would only wear cream trousers (NOT beige) in the summer.

Put the same 'top' and 'beige' trousers on 10 different women and they will all look different. Some will look trendy, some frumpy and some outright comical.

Fashion/trends come and go ladies, I for one will wear whatever I feel comfortable in and looks good (according to my bedroom mirror and my very trendy and stylish daughter)

Individuality should be applauded, we are not in a country where we are told what colours we have to wear at what age.

Both styles ankle skimming rather than full length

I like beige. Hazbeen's "Tena lady "point of view comment is very appropriate though.

Mapleleaf Sat 23-Jun-18 18:48:04

Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. ?
I think it probably depends on the style and the material, but if you find a style that suits you, go for it. Beige/cream/stone, it doesn’t matter, as long as you feel happy wearing them, that’s all that matters. What others think is up to them! ?

Drat! I've only just stumbled across this thread and I've been out all day in stone coloured chinos, navy T shirt and navy deck shoes. will I ever live it down blush

Iam64 Sat 23-Jun-18 20:10:29

Sounds good to me chewbacca. I’ve been gardening, dog walking and dog training x two. My leisure outfit today has been beige/sand knee length shorts (ten years old, miracle the still almost fit) apwith blue and white striped M and s Grandad neck cotton shirt, eight years old. Earnings and Merrill walking sandals.

Many years ago someone I know said to me,you can always tell a woman who has sons by the clothes they wear as they get older——— I do think having daughter/daughters helps!
Do you agree?

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 21:15:48

Yes arthursfam I totally agree and I have two daughters!! (And a son) grin

trisher Sat 23-Jun-18 21:16:10

Not really arthusfam but I think you can tell the women who go shopping with their best friend and both buy the same thing in different colours.
DanniRae you may well look good in the outfit I described, but it is odd when you see a group of women all in similar outfits, all shapes and sizes, but all older women. I have yet to see a younger woman dressed like that.

goldengirl Sat 23-Jun-18 21:32:18

Beige is popular on QVC - and it looks good on the models with pretty tops. They don't call it beige though!!!

Bellasnana Sat 23-Jun-18 21:36:41

Personally, I like beige trousers. I wear what I feel comfortable in and certainly don’t waste any time worrying about what anybody else thinks.

Witzend Sat 23-Jun-18 22:36:25

Surely whether they look 'old lady' or not will depend so much on quality and most of all, fit.
What I think of as 'old lady' trousers are those saggy/baggy ones, often that bit too short.
FWIW, that sludgy sort of lilac is my idea of an old-lady colour.

annep Sun 24-Jun-18 08:45:31

Bellasnana you are of course right. I worry too much what others think but I am also very aware of being 67 and not wanting to be seen/treated as an old lady.

annep Sun 24-Jun-18 08:48:47

Chewbacca ??

Barmeyoldbat Sun 24-Jun-18 09:00:24

I am sit.sitting here in a pair of below the knee shorts in beige. With a blue and white stripped top. I don’t think there is anything wrong with beige as long as the cut and material is right. In town we have a small shop that is aimed mainly at the young professionals looking for casual wear and they sell Robell in beige. I have a pair of blue one and I am going to buy a pair of beige, they are stretchy straights and wonderful fit. Also wear beige chinos. Maybe we should give beige another name like off white or nude like the description for the shoes the royal wear.

lemongrove Sun 24-Jun-18 09:02:30

annep just do your own thing, there is no old lady colour colour, just colour.
Dressing to suit your figure is the better aim, not wearing tight trendy clothes however they look.
If you are short, avoid baggy wide legged trousers is all I would say.
I don’t buy anything in beige simply because that colour drains me, being blonde.

NonnaW Sun 24-Jun-18 13:02:01

trisher my 30 year old niece regularly wears 3/4 leggings with long tops. Admittedly the tops often have low necklines, but even so.

Daisymay1 Sun 24-Jun-18 14:12:47

Wear what you feel good inand don't listen to anyone else ?

annep Sun 24-Jun-18 15:32:11

Thanks last posters. will take heed! barmyoldbat I do love your name. Wouldnt it be good if we had a choice like on facebook of "liking" a post.

A friend once described my hair as 'beige' - ie lighter than brown and darker than fair - though she later amended it to 'fudge' which sounded better. Now it's silver. Although I have a favourite oatmeal cardigan, I like brightly coloured tops. Today it's bright pink with indigo denim crops.
