I'm 67. I met my 57 year old sister yesterday. I was wearing Robell tight stretchy beige/cream coloured trousers which I love. Got a spot on them, was moaning I'd only put them on. Sister said you shouldn't wear beige trousers anyway. only old ladies wear beige trousers! I thought it was a strange thing to say. Would appreciate views. truth please.

except when drinking red wine

Nothing frumpy about Robell trousers of any colour. I wear my sand/cream/fawn/stone/beige ( choose your preferred description) with a navy, red or khaki top, bright coloured shoes and bag Love them, if that’s an old lady look then it’s fine by me smile.

I was assaulted getting on a tram in Nice . I was wearing a beige anorak- I know its awful- but it was pouring with rain. Anyway a young couple stood one behind me and the other in front of me on the tram steps, and she unzipped my rücksack and took my purse and then they both jumped off the tram, then the doors closed and we went off. No one batted an eyelid!
But that was the end of beige for me. I'm sure I had been picked out as we were trying to get tickets from of the machine.

Purpledaffodil yes I thought it a bit rude. I was feeling quite nicely dressed too in my "sand" coloured casual trousers. Margaretx how awful! I don't understand how people do this kind of thing . No conscience obviously.

Better watch out on public transport all you 'sand' wearers!
Horrible thing to happen MargaretX. What a nasty fright for you.

If it makes you feel any better, MargaretX, my DD and her friends were threatened in Nice once by three boys. They escaped by running away. I’m afraid I had to smother a laugh as the boys were about 10 years old and DD and her friends were in their mid-twenties (not old ladies and probably not wearing beige).

I think people over a certain age seem to wear beige or grey (I run a day centre for elderly people, and they all wear those colours)

JustALaugh Fri 22-Jun-18 22:13:07

I'm 59, by the way... and wear black trousers or blue jeans

annep Fri 22-Jun-18 22:18:36

màggiemayI totally agree they're expensive. More than I normally pay. But I think theyre a lovely neat modern fit which is hard to find nowadays. and they wash well and last. (I only mentioned the name to explain which ones. )

stella1949 Fri 22-Jun-18 22:22:08

Tight, stretchy and beige.....from a distance you'd look naked. Not a good look.

Deedaa Fri 22-Jun-18 23:07:23

Like everything it depends how you wear it. I have some beige linen trousers and I wear bright colours with them, or occasionally black. The thing you must avoid is beige leggings which will show up every varicose vein and patch of cellulite and basically look like naked flesh!

Grammaretto Fri 22-Jun-18 23:08:05

Not sure I would choose beige or brown for that matter. They are rather depressing colours. I once asked the shop assistant to suggest clothes for me about 20yrs ago when I was a fit 50 and she brought such a dreadful selection of old lady clothes. I actually cried.

Coolgran65 Fri 22-Jun-18 23:42:21

Jalima1108 I mentioned 'crimpeline' to portray the type of top/fabric not to wear as it could look frumpy and old-lady.
You are probably correct in that crimpeline as we knew it no longer exists.

SparklyGrandma Sat 23-Jun-18 01:45:08

Jalima1108 yes crimpelene is alive and well and called scuba. It’s trendy and holds bright colours really well.

I don't have a sister as a 'style' adviser but I do have a daughter who keeps me away from 'old lady' clothes. If we are out shopping and I stray towards anything she doesn't approve of she says "Step away from there, mum!" and I obey. I am not complaining - I have a friend with no daughters and she wears the most awful outfits. I was with her last night and she had on black/white zigzag patterned leggings and a black/white zigzag patterned top BUT they were different patterns! It gave me a headache just looking at her shock

There are a lot of judgemental comments on here, on the scale of things why does the colour of clothing matter ?
Have just seen a photo of globe trotting DD wearing beige linen trousers but I guess that is okay because she is size 6 and not an old frump.

sodapop Sat 23-Jun-18 08:35:50

That sounds awful DanniRae why is it that the majority of women who wear leggings really shouldn't.
My daughter's comment stays with me, when asked what she thought of my outfit she said " well it's alright for you mother but I wouldn't wear it " ?

Day6 Sat 23-Jun-18 11:29:07

Hahaha Jalima. Yes, sand is the colour of my linen trousers. grin

Day6 Sat 23-Jun-18 11:33:04

Oh yes, beige or salmon pink leggings should be avoided like the plague by all women. When they are stretched over an ample bottom, or any bottom really, they leave nothing to the imagination.shock shock

annep Sat 23-Jun-18 12:08:27

Tight leggings without a long top are NOT acceptable on anyone. I wear very long top/sweater and my boots in winter with very thick leggings and big scarf. I love it.

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Jun-18 12:16:15

well it's alright for you mother but I wouldn't wear it
grin I've heard that too - or
"It suits you Mum, but I wouldn't wear it^ hmm

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 12:19:42

That's my style too annep (minus the scarf) and in summer I wear long, colourful tunics and 3/4 length leggings! But ALWAYS with my bottom covered!! grin

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 12:24:42

BTW the leggings are always black, navy or grey. But I like the sound of salmon pink ones, where can I get them?
(I am joking, of course!!)

annep Sat 23-Jun-18 16:04:51

One of my summer styles too DanniRae . I can afford to wear nice clothes more now so I like to enjoy it. and not salmon pink either although my flamboyant best friend would!

trisher Sat 23-Jun-18 16:32:09

I've got 2 pairs of what could be described as 'beige' trousers although I prefer 'cream'. One straight legged cotton, worn with a long multi-cloured top or a plain black top,the others, wider and linen I wear with a vest top and a loose cotton shirt in white or navy, on holiday. Practical, comfortable and adjustable, shirt can be removed and trousers rolled up for a walk on the beach. Far more ageing, are those long tops worn with 3/4 leggings or trousers of any colour. I see groups of older women everywhere wearing them, and they are almost always British.
