I'm 67. I met my 57 year old sister yesterday. I was wearing Robell tight stretchy beige/cream coloured trousers which I love. Got a spot on them, was moaning I'd only put them on. Sister said you shouldn't wear beige trousers anyway. only old ladies wear beige trousers! I thought it was a strange thing to say. Would appreciate views. truth please.

Beige is popular on QVC - and it looks good on the models with pretty tops. They don't call it beige though!!!

Not really arthusfam but I think you can tell the women who go shopping with their best friend and both buy the same thing in different colours.
DanniRae you may well look good in the outfit I described, but it is odd when you see a group of women all in similar outfits, all shapes and sizes, but all older women. I have yet to see a younger woman dressed like that.

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 21:15:48

Yes arthursfam I totally agree and I have two daughters!! (And a son) grin

arthursfam Sat 23-Jun-18 20:54:33

Many years ago someone I know said to me,you can always tell a woman who has sons by the clothes they wear as they get older——— I do think having daughter/daughters helps!
Do you agree?

Sounds good to me chewbacca. I’ve been gardening, dog walking and dog training x two. My leisure outfit today has been beige/sand knee length shorts (ten years old, miracle the still almost fit) apwith blue and white striped M and s Grandad neck cotton shirt, eight years old. Earnings and Merrill walking sandals.

Drat! I've only just stumbled across this thread and I've been out all day in stone coloured chinos, navy T shirt and navy deck shoes. will I ever live it down blush

Abso-bloody-lutely - 'hats off' to Grans everywhere ???

annep Sat 23-Jun-18 19:14:11

grannygravy and mapleleaf thanks. I kinda think you're right. I have enjoyed this thread isnt gransnet brilliant ?

Mapleleaf Sat 23-Jun-18 18:48:04

Wear what you feel comfortable wearing. ?
I think it probably depends on the style and the material, but if you find a style that suits you, go for it. Beige/cream/stone, it doesn’t matter, as long as you feel happy wearing them, that’s all that matters. What others think is up to them! ?

Alexa Sat 23-Jun-18 18:36:08

I like beige. Hazbeen's "Tena lady "point of view comment is very appropriate though.

TwiceAsNice Sat 23-Jun-18 18:22:23

Both styles ankle skimming rather than full length

GrannyGravy13 Sat 23-Jun-18 18:19:41

Put the same 'top' and 'beige' trousers on 10 different women and they will all look different. Some will look trendy, some frumpy and some outright comical.

Fashion/trends come and go ladies, I for one will wear whatever I feel comfortable in and looks good (according to my bedroom mirror and my very trendy and stylish daughter)

Individuality should be applauded, we are not in a country where we are told what colours we have to wear at what age.

TwiceAsNice Sat 23-Jun-18 18:15:41

I think it depends on the material and style. Elastic waist and crimlene type material - no no! However I have a pair of dark cream cotton chino type trousers and very pale cream linen wide leg trousers which are cool and look elegant with a nice bright top. My other trousers are all bright colours except for one navy pair ( hate black and look awful in it) . Also would only wear cream trousers (NOT beige) in the summer.

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 18:12:30

Well we are all entitled to our opinions trisher but if you think that the outfits that you described are any less ageing well good for you.
I am sure that you look as good as you can in your straight leg cotton trousers or wider legged linen ones with your variety of tops but rest assured I look pretty good in my 3/4 leggings and my tunic tops - well my mirror and my husband certainly tell my that I do smile

trisher Sat 23-Jun-18 16:32:09

I've got 2 pairs of what could be described as 'beige' trousers although I prefer 'cream'. One straight legged cotton, worn with a long multi-cloured top or a plain black top,the others, wider and linen I wear with a vest top and a loose cotton shirt in white or navy, on holiday. Practical, comfortable and adjustable, shirt can be removed and trousers rolled up for a walk on the beach. Far more ageing, are those long tops worn with 3/4 leggings or trousers of any colour. I see groups of older women everywhere wearing them, and they are almost always British.

One of my summer styles too DanniRae . I can afford to wear nice clothes more now so I like to enjoy it. and not salmon pink either although my flamboyant best friend would!

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 12:24:42

BTW the leggings are always black, navy or grey. But I like the sound of salmon pink ones, where can I get them?
(I am joking, of course!!)

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 12:19:42

That's my style too annep (minus the scarf) and in summer I wear long, colourful tunics and 3/4 length leggings! But ALWAYS with my bottom covered!! grin

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Jun-18 12:16:15

well it's alright for you mother but I wouldn't wear it
grin I've heard that too - or
"It suits you Mum, but I wouldn't wear it^ hmm

annep Sat 23-Jun-18 12:08:27

Tight leggings without a long top are NOT acceptable on anyone. I wear very long top/sweater and my boots in winter with very thick leggings and big scarf. I love it.

Day6 Sat 23-Jun-18 11:33:04

Oh yes, beige or salmon pink leggings should be avoided like the plague by all women. When they are stretched over an ample bottom, or any bottom really, they leave nothing to the imagination.shock shock

Day6 Sat 23-Jun-18 11:29:07

Hahaha Jalima. Yes, sand is the colour of my linen trousers. grin

sodapop Sat 23-Jun-18 08:35:50

That sounds awful DanniRae why is it that the majority of women who wear leggings really shouldn't.
My daughter's comment stays with me, when asked what she thought of my outfit she said " well it's alright for you mother but I wouldn't wear it " ?

harrigran Sat 23-Jun-18 08:34:43

There are a lot of judgemental comments on here, on the scale of things why does the colour of clothing matter ?
Have just seen a photo of globe trotting DD wearing beige linen trousers but I guess that is okay because she is size 6 and not an old frump.

DanniRae Sat 23-Jun-18 08:25:44

I don't have a sister as a 'style' adviser but I do have a daughter who keeps me away from 'old lady' clothes. If we are out shopping and I stray towards anything she doesn't approve of she says "Step away from there, mum!" and I obey. I am not complaining - I have a friend with no daughters and she wears the most awful outfits. I was with her last night and she had on black/white zigzag patterned leggings and a black/white zigzag patterned top BUT they were different patterns! It gave me a headache just looking at her shock
