Bluegal Oh NO! I can't understand why the male bits are so ugly and the female bust is rather pretty (to men certainly and for dressmakers, designers etc.) Actually the male bits at best are funny, but definitely not attractive! And you were in a cafe? Eating??!! Oh Noooooo...

Reminds me of the stupid idea they had of 'mixed wards'. I was in the Hammersmith Hospital for 2 weeks opposite these men who could not hide it, probably thought they were hiding it, but every time they bent their knees there it was, straight in my eye-line. I'm certainly heterosexual, but it was revolting!!

Can't understand this need for walk about in public without covering up top. If the male species at least in UK feel they want to show off their upper half why does the fashion industry not copy the styles worn by the females e.g cut out shoulders, only one shoulder, all the various neckline. And, to go further, why do male popstars not appear in leotards, or the budgie smuggler style shorts to show off their bodies as we females do? (feeling squeamish just thinking about that).

yggdrasil you made me laugh out loud as well. 60s and 70s talk - 'she was asking for it' or 'can't you take a joke' when the gentle stroke on the back (in the office) undid my bra. I often wonder how the latter explained his black eye to his wife that evening.

jenpax I am totally with you!!! Especially in Paris!! The Parisian lady is so elegant, as is the lady of Madrid, and as for Milan - I don't think females under 40 are allowed out! (and they all wear black!) But seriously, since I was suddenly struck unable to walk beyond a few metres, I have developed bits that I would never show, and my upper arms are included! I often wear a loose cotton shirt over a sleeveless tee shirt but I would never remove the shirt!! Similarly with a sleeveless dress, I wear a little cotton top with sleeves. I often think of the Queen, she wears what seem to be coats and jackets in the sun, does she not get terribly hot? Yet she never looks hot! How does she do it?

On a recent holiday in Malta, a young Maltese man got on the bus without a top on (him, not the bus!). The driver, very politely, asked him to put his top on 'because visitors to our island do not wish to see your body on the bus'. The top was put on with no argument.

nixon YANBU! I don't know what we can do about it though, unless shops put up the signs asking people to wear tops.
I have a gardener, although gardening is my joy, now I am disabled, I cannot manage it alone. Only once, on an unusually hot Spring day, he tapped the kitchen window and asked me very politely if I would mind if he took off his top as he had worn a rather heavy one by mistake, not realising how hot the weather was to become. I was very impressed by his courtesy. That is the only way a man should discard his top, unless he is at a beach or swimming pool. Why can't we raise people to have manners like my Gardener? He's in his late 30s btw.

Bluegal your comment reminded me of my friend who when they had the builders in discovered that one of the young men didn't wear underpants under his shorts, she spent a lot of time in the garden walking past the ladder he was working on.

I too dislike shirtless men shopping also young and not so young women wearing clothes more suitable for the beach, as for exposed baby bumps YUK, we can see what a clever woman you are carrying that precious bundle but please cover up

Trouble is they think they look wonderful. Socks and sandals, four cornered hankies on head, flipflops, bare chests, Yuk!!

Topless or scantily clad blokes in food stores or on public transport ( particularly when the only seat left is next to them and particularly when they have a lot of body hair) has long been something I hate to see and refuse to sit next to come to that. The same would go for females I guess.
Yesterday a young girl wearing a loose crop top over a generous bust got on the bus. She was exposing rather more than was wise and those sitting and looking up got a generous eyeful.

I don't want to see male or female flesh. I walk the dog on a path above the beach and some of these men look dreadful, pot vellies and man boobs - disgusting.

Agree with you Nixon. I've also seen shirtless men out and about recently. Acceptable for the beach, garden or building site, but not public places. Not attractive and not nice to have to stand behind in a queue. But many people don't seem to know how to dress appropriately. I recently saw someone ordering Chinese takeaway in her pyjamas. Another day, a large lady with a pair of very thinly stretched leggings/tights which were completely see through and we were all treated to the sight of her tiny thong.

At granddaughters sports day it was noted that some men had removed their tops but the head teacher requested that as they were on school grounds all tops must be worn.

Totally agree...no flesh on show. Supermarkets should put signs up saying no. I did see a sign in a shop window a couple of years ago saying 'no pjs'.....

In Lanzarote a taxi driver refused to take two bare chested men.
Last week I saw a very pregnant woman baring her bump!

Totally agree Nixon, I absolutely hate seeing men topless in the street, or anywhere apart the obvious ie beach, swimming pool, garden (not even keen on that really.) In a shop or supermarket, ugh comes to mind. Loathe it I’m afraid!

Gosh some awful sights conjured up here. So glad it’s not just me - sits with middle aged men in Lycra who populate the lanes near me on a Sunday

Am agreement with all who say “cover up”! I especially don’t like waitresses serving me in vest tops - I don’t want underarms (hairy or otherwise) with my meal. Yuck!

Apart from the topless aspect .... there are many women too walking around in this heat who I question if they have mirrors in their houses. Not many of us have perfect bodies, but surely we want to cover our worst bits up and enhance the good bits ! Altho I suppose you have to admire their confidence in just not caring !!
