Years ago in Italy it was actually a criminal offence for men to walk around topless - I don't know if that's still the case but it definitely should be both there and here?!

I too have read this thread, Bathsheba. Your name suggests a predilection for immodest bathing, and at least in the pictures I have seen King David is respectably covered up.

It's not just men with no shirts, either. Ninety per cent of the men I see in shorts look pretty dreadful, too. And t-shirts are a big mistake whenever (and it's often) the waist measurement exceeds that of the chest. In fact I blush for my sex during every hot spell - the mature male equivalent of a hot flush?

It really turns my stomach to see these jelly-bellied men flashing their ivory coloured flab in public. And oh yuk, I totally agree about the sweaty, hairy armpits. Seriously, why do they think anyone wants to see this? Fine in the privacy of your own house and garden, or at the beach. But definitely not walking through the town centre, or round Sainsbury.

Mr P is the most modest of chaps, and has never been seen in public without a top on, not even when cutting the grass in our own garden!

However, before I paint him as a picture of saintliness, he does have a rather disconcerting habit of not using a belt when wearing the trousers he favours for any gardening or DIY activities

Another one here, who could sign off "disgusted of the north west". I know our poor northern bodies are starved of the sun but why do so many people wear hardly anything as soon as the sun comes out?
We saw a gruesome site in a Med resort recently, a family of 5 of various ages, walking down the high street wearing very skimpy and ugly swim wear, all the exposed flesh littered with equally ugly tattoos. Yes, they were Brits, what other nation would walk about looking like that? it was 10am and of course, they were all drinking bottles of alcohol, well not the 4 year old, but the rest of them were

Me, too especially if they are sweaty and misplaced the deodorant!!!! Nothing more off putting than a humming half naked person in the queue at the bank! Or maybe there is??? I was in a local cafe and the man sat directly across from me was sat sideways. He had a pair of shorts on and had crossed his leg (as men do with the heel of one leg resting on the knee of the other)........he obviously had no underpants on for the rest of him was dangling out of the shorts!!! Obviously very proud of his tackle then? I couldn't stop looking ha ha oh but....he did have a top on bahahaha

Sadly, I find that the majority of those that expose their flesh in the sun are the very ones who should be covering up. Not much in the way of Poldark bodies, but an awful lot of flabby ones. And as for armpit hair, glistening with sweat, in a food shop........bleurgh.

well I am pleased to hear it is not just me. Honestly his shorts were so low they were barely covering the necessaries. It was very uncomfortable and really not for public consumption on a busy high street
