Its a moaning thread.
I don't go on to the threads made by people who enjoy the weather to complain, so I'm going to make the most of this one!
You swap sleeping positions with your pet , where are you sleeping tonight?
Everyone I know has been having a go at me for daring to say this. But I can't cope with this weather much longer. It is relentless and although we have fans the heat has built up over the last weeks to the point where they are just blowing hot air around. I can't sleep and I am sweaty all the time and I am praying for rain

I am not moaning, I am expressing my dislike of this heatwave and come winter I will express my dislike of snow.
I'm another who's loving it. The energy it arouses in me has me having the cleanest house I've had in years. Not that such is a priority but I am enjoying the 'facelift'. The freedom it gives me to do anything and everything is just a joy. I'm also out and about meeting and eating much more than I do ordinarily and loving that too. Yes all good for me and I'm only sorry it's such a rarity. I'm also doing much more home entertaining by using the garden as dining space. Wonderful. I will simply hibernate as usual when the cold rushes in.
Sorry Tictac but I'm loving every hot sweaty moment of it. The older I get the harder I find winters , I tend to hibernate to be honest . I lived in New York for several years, I loved the weather except for the 100% humidity . The summer we're having now is ideal for me.
I do understand this weather isn’t for everyone, but I’m abit fed up of folk complaining about it. Last time we enjoyed such a lovely summer, one where we can at least plan ahead was 1976. Being able to go out with grandchildren and not have to take a whole barrage of cloths to cover the weather changing is pure joy. Some very good tips on here how to stay cool for those that don’t like it, for those who do, there’s a comfy sun lounger set up in the garden.
My first ever Gransnet post so..Hello and Good morning to you all. I just want to say, that mostly due to health problems I too struggle with this heat. However..a couple of weeks ago a friend installed a ceiling fan in my bedroom for me and it’s made a huge difference! At night I am now able to sleep quite well and it also provides a little haven of coolness during the hot afternoons. I’ve also given up rushing around trying to do all I normally do. My dog gets an early morning and late evening walk and that’s about it! We need to make adjustments and be kind to ourselves.
Hello madbird nice to see a new poster.
I'm no good in direct sun either, prickly heat etc but not going to grumble as I can always find a shady spot.
I freeze a hot water bottle and put it in a pillowcase for bed and I've bought a cool scarf from Amazon that really does keep you cool. You can wear it round your neck or drape it over yourself. You do have to wring it out in cold water so it is damp but it stays cool for hours.
My lawn will recover but I'm having to spot water plants to stop the whole garden dying.
The key to survival in this heat is to dress and eat/drink accordingly. We are not geared up for prolonged heat - wear linen and organic cotton (no polyester cotton) and that goes for bedding too. Our homes have become havens for synthetic fabrics and none of these perform well in the heat so it's back to basics - the Mediterranean lifestyle and diet - and guess what, it's also better for you - people live longer in that climate - so let's make the best of it.
I did the hot water bottle thing last night, and it worked a treat.
I think I might tie it to my head today.
Nice if you have a Mediterranean lifestyle.
I have spent the last few weeks going to job interviews in out of the way places, at the times specified.
Arriving in a big, soggy, sweaty mess, barely able to breathe!
I see mabon1 is being as cheery and friendly as usual!
I hate this weather as does my garden. So many tiny dehydrated young hedgehogs being brought into rescue where I volunteer
Are we ever satisfied? Yes, winter will be hear ! before we know it but if last winter is anything to go by then on looking at my winter period electric bill, compared to my more recent one, then bring it on and costs much less to keep cool than to keep warm.
Oddly I am also enjoying it this year, somehow it seems so much drier than our normal steamy summer days.
Still loving it in N Yorkshire. Temperatures up to mid 20s here are great. Had a bit of rain last Monday and Friday which soaked the gardens nicely. Hope it lasts into September!
I do understand ill people who don’t get on well in this hot weather BUT how many cold days do we have this is the first good summer for years (1976) it’s usually warm, cold, rainy grey, warmish, windy, kids break up, one hot day then back to school All those who don’t like it get your cold water bottles out, turn your fans up, and just rejoice that for ONCE in our lifetime we are getting a real summer and wait until winter then we can have something new to moan about
I try not to moan too much in our miserable grey cold winters just wrap up and get on with it shivering and depressed doesn’t the sun make you feel happy though I can’t imahine anyone feeling sad when the sun is shining on them
Go live in the northwest weve had cloudy& showery weather over a week now
Don’t worry about moaning there’s lots of people complaining I can’t bear it, my body fells like a sauna, can’t sleep and I swear my hot flushes have returned and I am 73.
My h has arthritis in his neck and knees and said it’s the worst it’s been with this hot weather, the humidity is awful.
Make most of it! Theyve started advertising xmas holidays&xmas lunch bookings!Already! And yes it a great saving on fuel bills-if it werent for teenagee son who'd rather turn on the fan than open his window!
It's still drizzling here in Cheshire, though it has remained quite warm all this week, despite the clouds.
Its just not my idea of a 'good' summer.
A good one for me would be temperatures I feel comfortable in.
Teenager son.darn phones got its own mind!
Love it! here in SW France we have gone from torrential rain, hail and mud to a heatwave. I do have the advantage of a pool to hurl myself into many times a day, but even that is getting warm.
Lots of spectacular storms, the whole valley lit up for hours with lightening, and the rain at night is welcome. downside is that this type of weather has tried to turn the pool green and the weeds are gargantuan, we have a 12ft hollyhock in the garden!
Sorry but i have to say it- go live where u do feel comfortable then.give us a break we usually have rotten weather and its not lasting forever.its changed in north already! I remember last summer when poor kids couldnt get a days decent weather to holiday or play out in- its been better for them to actually enjoy summer so far.some folk always have to have something to moan for, dear me.
