Everyone I know has been having a go at me for daring to say this. But I can't cope with this weather much longer. It is relentless and although we have fans the heat has built up over the last weeks to the point where they are just blowing hot air around. I can't sleep and I am sweaty all the time and I am praying for rain

MissAdventure Sun 22-Jul-18 15:38:33

I can't. My poor feet are too swollen.
I've never had this problem before..

GrandmaMoira Sun 22-Jul-18 15:46:41

I'm in London and it is so uncomfortable. My garden has no shade so I can't go out there, Buses are sweltering, walking is exhausting. I know we should not complain, but the heat really makes me feel quite ill, light-headed and dizzy. I'm glad I no longer have to commute or sit in an overheated office but I think age is making me less able to cope.

Madbird Sun 22-Jul-18 16:03:17

?Thank you Miss Adventure..

It's cost me a fortune in Summer clothes, that I would say! Normally I just wear jeans all year round and in the Summer just wear sleeveless Summer tops. However this heat is just never ending and I've had to go out and buy a lot of short shift dresses which I have to say have helped to keep me a lot cooler.
I do hate the nights though, despite having a fan in the bedroom I just can't sleep. We are just outside of London so it's really very hot here.
I'm another that really does prefer the Spring and Autumn too. You can always put on layers and get warmer but it's so hard to cool down.

Catterygirl Sun 22-Jul-18 16:32:16

What heat? I had to put on a vest lunch time as couldn't stop shivering. My phone tells me it's 15 degrees Celsius here in London instead of the promised 29 degrees. Let's hope it warms up next week for my birthday. When it's warm I am able to do much more physical work. I do sympathise with those who struggle with the heat though. If I took a cold water bottle to bed, I would probably catch pneumonia. Can't bear fans or A/C even when I lived in Trinidad and Kuwait. I recognise I am abnormal.

MissAdventure Sun 22-Jul-18 16:50:56

Its 29 degrees here in Essex.

GrannyHaggis Sun 22-Jul-18 17:06:29

Not a lot we can do to change the weather though! I love the heat but don't like this muggy overcast weather we're having today. Wearing as few clothes as is decently possible, doing as little as I can housework-wise and drinking lots of cool drinks!

Tweedle24 Sun 22-Jul-18 17:12:45

Tictac
No need to worry about your lawn. It will come back as soon as it gets some rain - then you will have to start mowing again!

Rissybee Sun 22-Jul-18 17:31:50

Spring and Autumn for me too.

Yellowmellow Sun 22-Jul-18 17:47:33

I love the hot weather....but not when I'm working! I gave up work in March, decided that I wanted a part time job and started beginning of July. When I've got home I've been exhausted and fallen asleep!!

Bellanonna Sun 22-Jul-18 18:05:19

Is that London, England, catterygirl? If so I think your phone needs looking at. If you are shivering perhaps you are unwell?

maddy629 Sun 22-Jul-18 18:32:06

I don't think you are being unreasonable about the weather, I think it's dreadful. I don't mind being warm but this is ridiculous. Quite frankly, I'm looking forward to Autumn.

Rowena48 Sun 22-Jul-18 18:43:43

Have you tried spaying your sheets with a water spay just before getting into bed it’s lovely and cool. I think the Egyptians used to do it.

labazs Sun 22-Jul-18 18:57:54

im melting here sunshine

Greciangirl Sun 22-Jul-18 19:11:49

Wash my bedding in the morning and put back on again at the end of the day.
How often can we do that.

If I had a larger washing machine, I would wash my duvets as well.

I love the hot weather. I am olive skinned, not pale, so that’s probably why. But I must admit I do feel slightly weak if out in it all day. Thank goodness for fans and a bit of shade.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 22-Jul-18 20:08:12

Been to lunch at a fish restaurant on the beach, so hot it was like being in south Mediterranean, but although hot and bothered I am not complaining. The UK seaside needs this boost, all were busy the beach was packed.

S E Essex at its best, just didn't look at all the 'bodies' with flesh out lol!! Have to make the most of the summer, winter is much longer.

MissAdventure Sun 22-Jul-18 20:28:12

I think I can sense a thunderstorm on its way.
Oh please, let me be right for once!

Nanna58 Sun 22-Jul-18 20:36:23

Love it m love it love it! Seem to have more energy the hotter it gets, I know I’m in the minority- I’ll get my coat!!!

1974cookie Sun 22-Jul-18 21:06:20

I keep a bottle of M+S Lemon Verbena body mist in the top of the fridge so that it is icy cold.
A quick spritz of that, and sitting with a fan directed at me.
Heaven. ???.

grannypauline Sun 22-Jul-18 21:58:07

Grandmamoira if you have a London Freedom Pass you can go on the trains as well as the buses. The newer trains are air conditioned and quite pleasant. I also sit on them reading - back and forth - in the winter though the Beast from the challenged their heating system and that of most of the waiting rooms!

Madbird Sun 22-Jul-18 23:47:17

It’s really pleasant out now so I’ve been for a walk with my dog and done a bit of gardening in the dark...well, pulling up a few weeds. I have very little energy in the heat but at this time of night I could (almost) run a marathon ?

Shizam Sun 22-Jul-18 23:50:47

You try doing the London tube in this...but having said that, would rather be hot than cold.
A nice 21C of sun and cloud is my optimum!

crystaltipps Mon 23-Jul-18 04:48:17

It was 35 degrees when I was in Sweden last week too hot to do the touristy stuff. Joined the locals for a dip in a lake. Lovely. Back in the U.K. and it’s going to be 30+ this week , I will have to make do with the local lido. I have to travel on a commuter train once a week - in the morning people smell fresh post - shower. In the evening - what a whiff! Thank goodness I don’t have to do that every day.

Me too. I'm with the Spring/Autumn crew.
I travelled to Bristol on Friday for the start of the Bristol Harbour Festival.
I spent about 6 hours there, some of it in the park by the Clifton Bridge, sharing a picnic with friends whose son had just graduated.
I've no idea how they could pose for photos in suits, gowns and mortar boards...I was wiped out and longing for a long cool shower and a thin cotton shift.
The next morning I had a very noticeable 'blush' on both cheeks, across nose and in the V neckline I'd worn even though I had used P20 oil which lasts 10 hours.
I think my continual patting of face with tissues was a major factor.
As I type, cool air is coming through the wide open bedroom window but as there is no movement in the tree outside, you can bet it will be another scorcher later on.
Does anyone else go off food in weather like this? I certainly do. Drinks and fruit and frozen yogurt are all I'm having. sunshinesad

We spent Sunday cycling, its so much cooler on a bike, cycled for about 8 miles, stopped for a bite to eat and then lay on the grass under a tree to read and sleep and then another 8 miles on the bike back to the car. Had the best nights sleep ever, couldn't even stay awake for Poldark and have just got up.
