Moaning Leavers, an explanation

Businesses are leaving the U.K. or moving some of their production abroad because of Brexit uncertainties.
So the future post-Brexit looks difficult for manufacturing.

Even before the referendum the leading Brexit supporting economist (there aren’t many economists who like Brexit) thought Brexit would lead to the collapse of manufacturing.

North East business and political leaders have hit out at a Brexit-supporting economist after he admitted leaving the EU would “mostly eliminate manufacturing”.

Professor Patrick Minford has been accused of “sacrificing jobs and livelihoods in the region” after saying an exit from Europe would leave Britain “mainly” with industries such as design and marketing.

Well I'm sure there will be a period of adjustment, but the fact that we are a wealthy country doing just fine will hopefully see us through.

Of course I have to say hopefully. I don't know for certain. No-one does despite all the dire predictions being declared as facts from some quarters.

I think our positive aspects have come about despite being in the EU, not because we are.

These positive aspects of Britain have come about while we are in the EU: surely things are more likely to change after the massive upheaval of leaving the EU rather than remain the same?

It's unbelievable to me that some STILL fall for the nonsense doom and gloom scenario peddled by the Remain camp.

But here is all is, still being spouted as facts 'prices will rocket, the pound will plunge, food shortages, job losses, and on and on ad infinitum.

It's daft scaremongering. Our country is thriving, the economy is strong, there is very low unemployment and there is every reason to think things will continue in this way.

For goodness sake, have some faith and optimism folks!

I think you are putting a lot of faith in a corrupt politician (he was fined £35000 recently) who has made millions from his EU MEP’s salary yet doesn’t bother to attend votes in the EU Parliament. In fact he actively disrupts EU proceedings. The Leave campaign in which he was involved has been proved to be corrupt and make fraudulent claims.

The “forthcoming freedom” to which you pin your hopes will benefit City traders such as Farage, Mogg, Philip May, who are all likely to make millions from Brexit. Perhaps you are a super wealthy city trader yourself planning to make a fortune?

The economic outlook for the poorest in Britain is rather more gloomy - many will lose their jobs, prices are certain to rocket, the pound is likely to plunge, shortages of food and medical supplies are expected. And of course the doctors you strongly disparage in your post, will struggle to keep the NHS afloat because of staff shortages.

The idea of a People’s Vote seems to getting a lot of interest in the media and some high profile backing.

The fact that Nigel Farage feels the need to promote Brexit again means he feels that the whole idea of Brexit is under threat. Otherwise why would he be organising a new “Leave” campaign complete with battle bus?

Today, believe it or not, BBC Radio 4 actually reported some brexit news which was not, as it has always been to date, rampantly pro-brexit.

I listen a lot to R4, but this is the first time in the last three years I have ever heard the Remain case given a fair hearing. (OK I may have missed something, but all I have ever heard is brexit taken as a fete accomplis, and any sense from the remain side "balanced" by rubbish and lies from the brexiters). Is something beginning to change?

The the reason why people still are debating Brexit is because we live in a democracy. We have a general election every four years the losers don’t just shut up because “the people have spoken” 16.9 million people voted to stay in the EU. They are entitled to have a say on the Brexit deal and how negotiations are heading. This is what the veterans of world war 2 fought for over 6 years. Several veterans have spoken out about their wish that Britain remains in the EU or as now Brexit is happening at least a good close working relationship with Europe.

David Davis himself has said the majority of EU legislation will have to be adopted in to UK law because otherwise the country would come to a standstill.

Ok why at the beginning of the last world wide recession which was caused by world banks mainly in America lending too much money to risky borrowers. Why were the exchange rates not altered too avoid the recession.

Currently the euro is doing far better than the pound.

The countries in the EU that are currently complying have benefit massively from EU money that has rebuilt their infrastructure following communism.

Poland is currently booming with British and American companies moving sections of their businesses over there mainly because of the standard of academic/technical education, level of English spoken and most importantly the average salary is around half of the U.K.’s. However it has a unsustainable welfare system, the cost of food and drink is cheap. However clothes, toys and cars are more expensive. There is also a massive rich poor divide with regular appeals from families unable to afford medication. The health system is awful, there are long waits and the hospitals make the NHS look luxurious. Drs and Nurses are leaving in their doves due to poor wages and working conditions.
Unless UK workers lose half their pay and the cost of living plummets the U.K. can not compete with countries like Poland.

Italy has had a huge economic problem with the southern half of the country for decades.

The Greek crisis was caused by their unsustainable welfare system, huge borrowing.

Hungary’s leader talks tough but most people are ok with the EU and they benefit massively from subsidies.

Yes, Petra I read it a while ago too, to gain knowledge because I was becoming more and more troubled about our position in the EU and the way the Euro as a currency was faring. It opened my eyes to the way in which economic fluctuations in EU member states can affect us all adversely.

It is not true that the UK had no influence in the EU nor is it true that DC got no concessions from the EU in 2016. He got us a permanent opt out from joining the euro and from 'ever closer' political union.

We'd long been against the Euro and the pot had been angrily boiling over for sometime regarding 'ever closer political union'. It wasn't wanted. Hence the referendum.

Before the referendum there was much unrest and dissatisfaction with the EU lest you forget. Given the Euro had proved to be a disaster long before 2016 the 'no euro' sop was just plain common sense and hardly worth mentioning. Only a fool would have adopted the Euro at that time.

^The structure of the euro insists upon the most difficult, the method with the greatest human suffering, way of adapting economies to such asymmetric shocks. Which is, of course, why it is a disaster. For inflicting human misery isn't notably thought of as being a desirable object of public policy - rather the opposite in fact, alleviating it is.

Yep, it's a disaster. And it doesn't in fact need four Nobel Laureates to tell us either. It's as plain as the nose on my face that it is - and thus the sooner it collapses the better. Hopefully along with that system that brought it into being, the EU itself

Once we, foolishly, joined this CLUB those of us with any sense knew it would be nigh impossible to leave. As it has proved. Germany and France run it. What did we win WW2 for? It was set up in the name of peace. So let Germany run it and keep them happy.
