The terms Equality & Equal Rights got me thinking, that in reality there is no such thing .
They are very much misused terms rarely is anything Equal,
We all have the right to be treated without Discrimination, yet we still have
1st Class travel options
A choice of best seats at venues
Premier hotel rooms
Exclusive resorts
Private medical procedures etc etc
So what is true Equality ?

Anniebach Sun 12-Aug-18 10:02:38

Gilly, how do you know those who live in Kensington do not earn their money honestly ?

I live in a national park, my true home is in a South Wales valley, houses here are triple the cost of houses in that valley.

For me, as a middle class home owner with a car, it is not about all being equal or jealous.. I have a very comfortable existence..well the usual ups & downs that can befall anyone rich, poor or inbetween, but I wonder if it is right that a very few people have enormous wealth..that they just "have" ..impossible to spend it all... when others, maybe through serendipity and not fault or poor choices end up with very little. It would only take a few changes to taxation to adjust this. There would still be a range but just not so wide!

gillybob Sun 12-Aug-18 09:42:31

And neither do I believe it or not Annie (as long as they’re all paid for honestly that is) . It’s the sheer inequality that bugs me . Those who think we all start out the same , have the same opportunities in life when we absolutely do not .

Anniebach Sun 12-Aug-18 09:19:28

Same for me Maw, I realy do not care who pays what for a house, i don’t care how many holidays people take, what car they drive, I have what I have, i am thankful i don’t sit dwelling on what others have , envy equals unhappiness.

gillybob Sun 12-Aug-18 09:18:59

It’s nothing to do with what you have or don’t have Annie . Are you deliberately trying to make me look like a twisted jealous person just because I think society is greatly unfair ?

It’s not about having a car ( yes I do btw ) I need it to run around after grandchildren and do school runs at opposite ends of the town , to look after elderly family members, take them shopping , attend hospital regularly and get to and from work . It’s a 13 reg.

Barclays Bank own my house as my rather large business O/D is secured on it .

MawBroon Sun 12-Aug-18 09:14:00

Well said Anniebach.
I have woken up in a bed, with a roof over my head and the assured prospect of enough food for today.
For all three things, I am profoundly grateful. Actually four if you include the waking up.
We do take so much for granted .

Anniebach Sun 12-Aug-18 09:10:17

Do you have a car Gilly? I can’t afford one, do I care? No. Do you own your house ? I don’t, life is so unfair isn’t it, Do i spend all day thinking what others have that I do not “ no.

gillybob Sun 12-Aug-18 09:04:13

Meanwhile a house in Kensington worth £millions pays less council tax than a house in Nottingham worth £150,000 ? Oh we’re definitely all equal . Not.

Anniebach Sun 12-Aug-18 08:59:23

Scotland has to no poor PECS ? All seats in their theatres cost the same, all hotel rooms cost the same? No food banks, no homeless ?

PECS Sat 11-Aug-18 23:14:49

With you again on that one Gilly!

annie it happens in some countries so not sure why we could not work to reduce (not all be paid the same!) the gap between richest/poorest. As posted up thread Scotland has increased taxes for the most wealthy to fund services to benefit the most needy. I call that socialism.

gillybob Sat 11-Aug-18 22:50:08

I don’t think they should be disposed of (that’s a bit drastic) just phased out and made to work for a living .

gillybob Sat 11-Aug-18 22:48:07

Of course not Annie that’s just silly . But to see a woman of her standing, maturity and stature grovelling like that just makes me angry . Why oh why does anyone (let alone the PM ) feel the need to curtsey to the members of this family ?

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Aug-18 17:49:15

Do you think that William was gallantly helping her up again?
Perhaps her knees locked like mine do.

Anniebach Sat 11-Aug-18 17:09:38

Seems if the Windsors were disposed of as were The Romanov family we would be living in utopia as the Russians have since

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Aug-18 16:55:48

Perhaps she just wanted to demonstrate that she still has flexible knees at age 61!

Jalima1108 Sat 11-Aug-18 16:51:46

We should have equality and fairness.
As MawBroon says:
“All are equal, but some are more equal than others”

But we should also have choice.

Perhaps we all need to re-read Animal Farm.

Anniebach Sat 11-Aug-18 16:17:59

And if it stopped gilly your problems would be sorted?

gillybob Sat 11-Aug-18 16:15:53

I saw that “curtesy” by Mrs May to Willy on the news yesterday . It was shocking . She grovelled so low she may as well have knelt before him . I agree with paddyann there is no place for this in modern society.

Anniebach Sat 11-Aug-18 14:16:07

Exaggerating Paddyann, May was not on her knees, and even is she was would this cause dysfunctional families , neglected children, women and children abandoned by the male, cause children to fail exams, high housing rents.

paddyann Sat 11-Aug-18 14:00:45

then there are some of us who think "Lords" and "Kings and Queens" are part of the problem ....giving people titles that make them seem superior to others is a medieval concept that has no place in the 21st century ..Seeing Mrs May grovelling on her knees before "prince" William is cringeworthy in the extreme ..what kind of message does it send out? Certainly not equality !

gillybob Sat 11-Aug-18 13:22:03

Oops sorry Blinko wires crossed . I think we agree with each other . smile

lemongrove Sat 11-Aug-18 13:00:12

We can also have equality in the workplace which should be the case, but isn’t always.
We do have equal rights in law, a Lord who commits murder will be treated the same as a gardener.

lemongrove Sat 11-Aug-18 12:57:21

Life is unfair ( nothing to be done about that) but as a society we can have free education, free healthcare and money for those who need it because they cannot work for any reason. We do have those things in place.

Blinko Sat 11-Aug-18 11:55:35

Gillybob, I think that's the point I was trying to make. Those born to wealth and security will have choices in life. Those born to poverty will not.

Anniebach Sat 11-Aug-18 11:38:49

It can’t happen PECS, working on a supermarket till or stacking shelves is not going to earn as much as a doctor, accountant, lawyer etc or even nearly as much.

And the O/P post spoke of best seats at venues and 1st class travel
