Is Jeremy Corbyn holding the Labour back?
(203 Posts)Is it time for Jeremy Corbyn to step aside as Leader of the Labour Party? He does not seem to be engaging with a swathe of the electorate who are not historically Conservative voters, but who do not seem to be inspired to support Labour either, the Labour Party as it is at the moment does not present itself to the electorate as a viable alternative to the Conservatives. Perhaps a change of leader would make a difference .
On top of which there isn’t a credible third party, perhaps suggestions on a post card to Houses of Parliament would give them all a clue ?
Young people probably know more than you lemon .
Come on are we Communist, Marxist or Leninist?
Young people probably know more than you lemon.
Mmmm, thats probably why, according to the "young people" on Mumsnet, they wouldn't vote for JC because he's a misogynist and anti Semite. Just saying......
Who are we trisher? And how should any of us know what you are?
Corbyn and McDonnell are Marxists.
Are the people on Mumsnet young Chewbacca any evidence?
Is that the same as Communist lemon? You seem confused about which hat we should wear? Just as confused as you are about many other things.
Sometimes communism is used interchangeably with democratic socialism, particular by the tabloid press but there are stark differences. Communism would be impossible to enact in a capitalist country such as ours so I don't know why everyone is getting their knickers in a twist about it. The U.K. In common with many capitalist countries including the USA have programs that borrow from socialist principles. As far as I can see many of the Labour Party policies are sensible and would do much to try and repair some of the damage done by austerity to society and social fabric in the last few years.
Communism is used on GN to accuse anyone who slightly left of centre views of ideas they have never espoused. Unfortunately no-one is permitted to accuse those with right wing views of anything resembling extremism without getiing the post deleted!
The Labour Party have some sensible and humanitarian policies
Erm, that's like saying they have MPs.
ALL parties in the UK, except those so extreme or vile they'll never be voted in have "humanitarian policies"
Carry on pretending that only Labour cares and they'll be able to right all the ills of this country, ones that have always existed. Labour left the UK in a complete mess after it's last term of office.
I believe Corbyn supporters live in some sort of cloud cuckoo land and must believe he can wave a magic wand. The electorate also need to know how he'll fund his policies without bankrupting the country.
To me, and many others, the three main political parties are much of a muchness. ALL are humanitarian. We live in a civilised society and anything less would be unacceptable.
Anyone would think we are living in a cruel dictatorship the way some hard left posters go on. Most of you have your state pension, a doctor, a hospital not far away, shops, most selling reasonably priced food with healthy competition from cut price stores, a transport system, free bus passes, schooling for your grandchildren, broadband in your homes, and any number facilities which make life pleasant. Yes, we have the poor amongst us, those less fortunate, and their plights are recognised too in our welfare state, although magic wand solutions to all problems are just not available. Governments have to budget too, and a Labour governement would also have the same restraints. They would sell us down the river too, to cosy up to Brussels.
Bring on Wizard Corbyn and his magic wand and the likes of Abbot, McDonnell, Watson and Thornberry as the gang spreading fairy dust. I don't see it somehow. But dream on.
Too left, too extreme. Would bankrupt the country with their largess which increases as they think of new offers to the voting public. These are signs of desperation not understanding.
Well said Lovetopaint037
Fortunately the voting public have more sense than to vote for wizard Corbyn when push comes to shove.
Day6 if only what you say were true.
Today headteachers were marching in London to complain about the funding crisis in our schools. Not left wing union agitators but HEADTEACHERS! Our grandchildren may well soon be in classes where there isn't a class teacher every day.
Our railway system is not only expensive the service is appalling and yet when it was in government hands the East Coast franchise made money for the government purse. But we continue to allow private companies to pocket the profits.
There is a huge crisis in our society and it is going to get worse. We need a government committed to caring and supporting ordinary people not to lining the pockets of their mates
Up the Revolution!
What Day6 says is true btw.
During the last election Corbyn supporters here praised his manifesto and claimed it was all costed. He was on woman’s hour -

Day6, very well put. I agree with you that I don't recognise the country that these left wing people describe. I am very happy with the way things are here and don't see any necessity for major change. I don't see any crisis apart from over population which is stretching our resources too thinly.
trisher surely those head teachers belong to a union ?
Beau, you are hilarious. Where do you live?
Try living in a rat infested room , with a stinking mattress and a "hand out" of 5 pounds a week to cover all expenses.
This is life for many people I know.
They call them professional associations by the time you reach Headteacher Annie and there isn't just one of them. What has never happened before is that Headteachers have chosen to take to the streets, protesting not about their own pay but about funding for schools. They have cut spending to the bone and all that is left is the teaching staff. And as I asked before how will people feel when their GC has one day a week without a qualified teacher?
And yes Day6 I have quite a comfortable lifestyle thank you. That I acheived the standard I have is largely the result of the support I and my parents received from the welfare state. It is the withdrawal of that support I object to. I want people to have the same access to good housing, healthcare and education I did. I don't want homeless families living in temporary accommodation or sofa surfing. I don't want people paying huge rents for substandard accommodation (Did you know the numbers of people spending more that 50% of their income on rent is rapidly rising?). I want proper healthcare with no more privatisation and proper funding. I want education properly regulated and funded with the divisive measure of academy and free school funding stopped. Now f you can show that the government is also committed to these aims than I will acknowledge their concern. But actually I think you will find they are happy to let the poorest go to the wall as long as they are able to keep the blinkered, self-centred, middle England, voters happy.
Beau, you are obviously one of the lucky ones with adequate income living in an affluent area. So am I, but I certainly am not happy with the way our welfare & health services have been cut to the bone.
And over-population is not a problem here. We have full employment, we are told, and businesses cannot get the workers they need. Especially now the EU citizens are leaving the UK, and there are quotas on the number of doctors and other skilled people being allowed to come here. We need -more- people, not fewer.
lemon I assume you are referring to my remarks about "lining the pockets of their mates". Do you deny that the rail franchises are profitable, or that that profit is being paid to a few shareholders? It isn't revolution to ask that a rail system be properly run and the profit used to improve the service.
Are the people on Mumsnet young Chewbacca any evidence?
Hmmm, let's see..... well, many of the posters on that forum seem to have young children and dependent families, so that could indicate that they're of a younger demographic than those on GN. Plus, some of the posters actually stated that they wouldn't consider voting for Corbyn because they believe that he is either anti Semitic or tolerates anti semitism; and that he presents as being misogynistic.
But you'd be best off going and having a look for yourself trisher, and maybe you could ask them to explain themselves to you personally? good luck with that

"Younger" Chewbacca not "young". Current figures put the average age of first time mums as a bit over 30. That means a mum with 2 children will be somewhere between 30 and 40. Well on the way to middle age I believe. Try asking 18-30s they are the 'young'.
Pedantics trisher. Always the last resort of the desperate!
18 year olds ? I thought the number of teenage mothers had dropped
