Is anyone else driven mad by requests for reviews by EVERYONE. You can’t go to the dentist, doctor, buy anything on line, contact your insurance company without being asked to review it. I bought a £2 zip on line last week and now the have 15 questions they want me to answer about it!

I have a guest house and I don’t usually ask any guests to leave a review but I am always delighted when we get a good one and makes me feel happy that they have enjoyed their stay with us.
Luckily in the 11 years we have been in business we have only received a couple of bad ones and lots of really lovely ones.
We did once have some guests blackmail us by saying if we did not give give them a discount they would give us a dreadful write up on Tripadvisor so bad that would be disastrous for our business.
We didn’t give them a discount and they didn’t leave the bad review, but when they tried to book in again with us at a later date I said no they should go elsewhere as we had not been right for them. I was flabbergasted that they even thought of returning to us.

Yes it's annoying. I bought something recently for about 99p and was asked for feedback! But it's like spam email, you get used to just deleting it.

Never had a request for GP or dentist feedback though.

Yes it is a bit annoying. My local hospital actually makes an automated phone call to ask about your ‘experience’. Not very good to be disturbed having just left hospital. You’ve no choice but to answer otherwise they ring every hour or so until they get an answer. Even local Doctors send text messages asking ‘how we’ve done’.

Here it is companies like insurance and various municipal offices that try to get feed back, but usually you have to press a number to signify your consent if you are phoning them. Online I just ignore requests unless I have anything really good to say about the commodity.

Our cats looked with disbelief at that cat toy - why bother? they said, we have humans to feel our food bowl!

Yes our doctors ask for feedback after every visit. The weirdest question is how likely are you to recommend us! ???
Answer: when I want to appear like a total nut-case.
As in, ask friend or neighbour which Doctors they are with, (weird already) then, "I can really recommend mine, they are just the best and fab-u-lous, in every way". ???

Yup. Drives me potty pottier.

On the other hand, I actually went on Amazon to deliberately write a review today! - A good review.

Buffybee A man from a charity came to see me (and that's a whole other story!) and asked which Doctors I was with. Upon hearing, he gleefully said words to the effect; "Go to Dr Soandso and tell him you know me!"

Embarrassed, on next appt at GP I did as he asked, thinking the reply might be a pleasant "Oh how nice" but the Doc just looked bored an said in a flat voice "Sid? ... Oh.. him..."

Man from t'charity also asked me many un-charity related questions and tried to take over my life. Perhaps I need to start another thread.

The only time I have felt the need to send a review was for Ryanair.
The first time I flew as a Disabled person. I could not send it as all I could find was a complaint site.
The service was excellent really good and the staff were lovely. I ended up sending a comment to the BBC when what'shisname was on to say thank you for the excellent service.
I got a lovely email in return and a 10% discount code.Used it and just as good.

I do get puzzled when they ask me whether I would recommend a product or service to friends and family. Usually I say no, because other people's requirements and tastes may be quite different from mine. They seem to think we enjoy discussing brands, TV shows, etc with our nearest and dearest, and earnestly urging others to try the same things. Now and again might do this if it comes up in conversation, but mostly I don't.

And as for travel services: why do I travel with a certain airline or train company? Because they are usually the only ones that will take me from my nearest station or airport to my chosen destination! Would I recommend them to others? Well, only if they wanted their make an identical trip , and even then they probably wouldn't have any choice either.

Yes, all the time, even after a phone call to my energy company, bank, you name it and my name's out there and all over Trustpilot like a rash.
Happy to do it if we get better service and equally happy to tell them when it's rubbish with, of course, suggestions as to how it could improve. Been asking Thames Water for an app for 4 years. I'm told they're talking about it. hmmshockgrin

Do tell us Tillybelle

Your comment re slippers bought online reminded me of a guy who bought a pair of 'Yeezy' trainers (Kanye West's company) online.
He put a photo and short video of him wearing them, on YouTube and I fell about laughing at the state of them. They look lkke kiddies slippers. I was in such a fit of laughter that some people nearby (was on a train) asked what was funny and then they all started to look on YouTube. It's hilarious. All is not what it seems online. grin

I can’t think of fifteen things about a zip unless each tooth has to be individually assessed as “worthy” or “satisfactory” - oh no satisfactory is now the same as unsatisfactory, at least in education! Can’t these marketing buggers get a life!

I bought a sweater in Edinburgh woolen mill this week. i was asked to complete a survey on line and to put a good word in for the assistant (~Tricia-). Anyway I thought I'd do it for her sake. Well talk about a faff. It was impossible to get onto their site. Then to cap it all, I got some horrible porn photos on my screen. They can stick their survey!

PamelaJ1 Fri 19-Oct-18 17:43:05

I do my ‘homework’ but it does depend on what I buy.
If I think it will be useful I go into detail. I always find it useful when buying clothes on line to know if a size 12 is a tight fit for example. If a few people say the same I’ll order a 14. So I return the favour.
I do ignore a lot and as I hardly ever have my phone with me, if I do it’s probably turned off so companies don’t know I’ve visited them.

I have bought stuff from Amazon from time to time and have found the product reviews extremely useful. I was once deflected from buying an expensive item because nearly every review said it was a useless product, and several recommended a much cheaper one, and because of this I have always tried to do a fair review. However, Amazon now want to authenticate my review (which point I can see) but the following faffing around with an email and then a code always ends up with my going around in circles and then abandoning the whole thing. As for the relentless requests to review everything from a parcel delivery to a trip to the dentist - nooooo! I am with you there, Nvella.

Nanny41 Fri 19-Oct-18 17:45:29

I find some reviews helpful especially Hotel reviews. I write a lot on Trip Advisor and people find my reviews helpful. I tend not to answer feed back on somethings I have purchased.

Legs55 Fri 19-Oct-18 19:05:46

I do check Trip Advisor to see what others have to say. I do post reviews for places I've stayed.

My Dentist sends out questionaires, but they are now under the BUPA umbrella (NHS & Private).

Sometimes I complete reviews, other times I ignore them.

mrswoo Fri 19-Oct-18 22:56:07

I work for a high street Opticians and we email our customers for feed back. We welcome all comments - good or bad and use them to help maintain the high standard of customer service that the company aspires to. Getting good feed back and a personal mention is always a boost. Getting negative comments can help us identify problems that can be worked on to get right.
So, although being bombarded with requests for feed back can be a drag and no one could be expected to respond to every one they can and do help businesses to provide a good service.

CardiffJaguar Sat 20-Oct-18 08:11:43

Absolutely fed up with these requests, so much so that I now ignore them. If we all did that maybe the instigators would begin to realise that they are counter productive. All this means that the odd report that might be useful does not get done. Time for a complete rethink I suggest.
