The Sussexes & Hypocrisy

Prince Harry said earlier in the week that social media is as addictive for kids as drugs and alcohol. They can be bullied and become anxious and depressed.

Instagram seems to be the worst apparently, although he didn't mention that by name.

However, AIBU to expect Harry and Meghan with all their virtue-signalling, to be less hypocritical? The Sussexes have just set up an Instagram account and already have over 3 million followers apparently !!! Is this not blatant hypocrisy?

Before this, Harry's topic was a climate change lecture to young people while he and Meghan zipped about in private jets for her baby shower and his trip back for Valentine's Day.

I have always been very fond of Harry but since he has become New Agey and got on various soapboxes, they both have had a marvellous chance to practise what they preach..... but are not doing it.

I'm disappointed in him.

I don’t understand why they chose a hotel , they could have stayed in Llwynwermod, perhaps Megan isn’t into fishing ?

Okay, so the days of " finding " a suitable suitor to fit in with the family have gone but-------------

I love the non-pretence of Zara and her husband. They're so down to earth and " normal " and there's never likely to be any hostilities regarding these two. All thanks to Zara's no-nonsense mother,Princess Anne a hard-working underrated member of the Royal family.

Firstly, too many people on here believe everything they read in the Daily Moan (it is NOT costing £33,000 for a 3 night stay - if you look on the hotel website, the most expensive room is £2,750 (still a lot, but the DM has hugely inflated the price merely to cause trouble & create lots of click bait). Secondly, they are still "finding their way" as a married couple and at least they're in love, and not like Kate and Wills (stories everywhere about his "playing away" - no wonder she always looks so tired and thin). Personally, I'm happy that he's found someone who makes him happy - good luck to them. And maybe the Instagram account is to try to counteract all the negative stuff that goes on? Stop getting manipulated by the gutter press. Give them a chance!

EllanVannin Fri 05-Apr-19 13:20:26

So, Carly what medium did you read/use about Wills " playing away ?"

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-Apr-19 13:21:58

Please the internet is a fabulous tool, it keeps family and friends connected worldwide. My scattered family/friends use instagram to "keep up".

The young people who have committed suicide are heartbreaking dreadful family altering circumstances.

Perhaps there is a need for more regulation of the internet as it is a relatively new phenomenon.

But please can we leave the Duke & Duchess alone and not believe everything written in the media, come on Gransnetters surely we are better than this.

Zara is a very junior royal , 17th in line to the throne

Mollygo Fri 05-Apr-19 13:25:26

CarlyD7 you evidently did your homework - and there’s a huge difference in price from the Daily Fail report. They may not be setting a good example, but what they say about social media could well be true and not just for teens.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 13:27:21

No way is William playing away, he suffered much when his parents did

Saggi Fri 05-Apr-19 13:32:00

Only just disallusioned with the royals...,. your playing catch up Sparkle

Have to say I took offence 're the comment up there about Megan being vegan when she was eating chicken last year. People are not born vegan....they have to change the way they eat to become one. Good for her on making the change. I hope their children are brought up to be vegan. It was a stupid remark as are many. I get fed up of people running them down at the drop of a hat. Leave them be please

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 14:03:18

If they put themselves in the public eye when not on official duty why not comment, they choose the celebrity life and criticism comes with that.

Gonegirl Fri 05-Apr-19 14:18:16

I think, with the kids and addiction thing, he was thinking more of games such as Fortnite rather than Instagram. They do spend a lot of time on those. None of his business though.

Butt out Harry.

123kitty Fri 05-Apr-19 14:19:26

Some of you sound like the worst kind of in-laws ready to discuss any faults you can find or imagine with your precious child's new partner.

Gonegirl Fri 05-Apr-19 14:19:35

Theoddbird I agree with you about the vegan comment. grin Daft in the extreme.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 14:31:10

Precious child ? ?

quizqueen Fri 05-Apr-19 14:35:47

'Show girl and the Prince' type relationships are always going to be trouble and this one begins with a capital 'T'. Meghan is going to get a real shock when she goes into labour unless she's having an epidural, of course, but that won't be very 'vegan or new age' though, will it!!!

Harmonygranny Fri 05-Apr-19 14:39:03

They remind me of Edward 8th and Mrs. Simpson.

Maggiemaybe Fri 05-Apr-19 15:06:43

CarlyD7 you evidently did your homework

Too late though. Before posting this morning I checked out the Long Room, which on the hotel website was then showing as available, as I said, for £10,000 per night plus 10% service charge. If you click on the link now you’re told that booking and price details can’t be accessed. I wonder why?

Perhaps it is time the Queen made Harry Governor General of some far flung outpost. They could have all the privacy they claim to want.

Maggiemaybe Fri 05-Apr-19 15:11:38

Ah, try this link instead, and scroll down to the best room in the house....

Oh, I give up! They’ve taken it off there now as well!

paddyann Fri 05-Apr-19 15:20:00

Och ,dont get your knickers in a twist..its as it has always been ..our "betters" telling us how to run our lives while doing the opposite themselves. Its a medieval concept is monarchy ..along with Lords and knights and dont get me started on EMPIRE medals that get handed out like sweeties to celebs and footie players et al .Get rid of the lot of them ,They're only there to make the rest of us inferior ..subjects instead of citizens .

annsixty Fri 05-Apr-19 15:26:30

Nothing can make me feel inferior thankyou.

Bridgeit Fri 05-Apr-19 15:30:45

Doesn’t the OP statement apply to all of us,? we may be donators to charities , perhaps some of us give our time, and I bet most of us have a TV, , Car, Computer, mobile, (obvs) holidays, washing machine etc.
It is wrong & always has been wrong that there is such in equality but we should not knock others without also looking to ourselves, and perhaps acknowledge that intentions are good & helpful no matter who they come from.

Juliet27 Fri 05-Apr-19 15:45:54

harmonygranny. Exactly what I was thinking. Wallis Simpson had come to mind.
