The Sussexes & Hypocrisy

Prince Harry said earlier in the week that social media is as addictive for kids as drugs and alcohol. They can be bullied and become anxious and depressed.

Instagram seems to be the worst apparently, although he didn't mention that by name.

However, AIBU to expect Harry and Meghan with all their virtue-signalling, to be less hypocritical? The Sussexes have just set up an Instagram account and already have over 3 million followers apparently !!! Is this not blatant hypocrisy?

Before this, Harry's topic was a climate change lecture to young people while he and Meghan zipped about in private jets for her baby shower and his trip back for Valentine's Day.

I have always been very fond of Harry but since he has become New Agey and got on various soapboxes, they both have had a marvellous chance to practise what they preach..... but are not doing it.

I'm disappointed in him.

Annibach - this just popped up today re royals and breastfeeding. It was in a news feed and quoted the Telegraph -

“George and Charlotte were breastfed and then weaned onto Aptamil, however by the time Louis was being weaned, the family made the decision to switch to Kendal Nutricare.
The Cambridges were so happy with the product that Kate's sister Pippa Matthews - who gave birth to baby Arthur in October - also uses it.”

Kendal Nutricare (it explains) is a British brand and is used by the Clooneys (!)...

I’m hopeful that Meghan will breastfeed and it helps influence new mums to just try it.

Let's be fair. Didn't Kate throw herself at William ? She changed Universities, just so that she could get to know William.

Relatives we've got whether we like them or not, friends they come and go, as the saying goes Namsnanny

Namsnanny Mon 08-Apr-19 20:42:01

Callistemon.....If I could be bothered I go back to Ch5 and check out the name of the school then google it and find ou the cost, just to put the record straight, but I'm not that interested!
I'm sure the truth could be easily ascertained!

With regards to Father spending his money, and becoming bankrupt, I think that was the point, he did......on her!!

Lets be fair, it would have cost the couple next to nothing to have paid for her family to come over and no one would be on the TV complaining. It would be my guess they would have all been cockahoop to be related to the royals!
There must be a reason why this didn't happen? Perhaps it was that they don't fit with her projected profile?

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 20:29:31

She has overdone the ‘i’m so in love’ from her first interview.

Callistemon Mon 08-Apr-19 19:40:05

He has since become bankrupt.
Well, he must have spent all his lottery winnings then!

Callistemon Mon 08-Apr-19 19:39:00

Megan was given everything money could buy, including an education at the most expensive schools in the world, mixing with celebs children, heads of states (from other countries) etc. The average cost for one year (without extras) was $79-80.000.
Was someone exaggerating somewhat on the programme?
hmm not sure about the most expensive schools in the world although she did have a private education at a girls' private Catholic High School. Fees now are around $16-$17,000 pa this year, so not nearly as expensive as the average independent school in the UK. I understand that her father won a large sum on the lottery and spent some of this on her education.

Well I guess her family are of no further use to her so they have been cut out of her life.

She has been described as being quite a determined scheming woman.

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 16:46:17

Sparkle not if no connect with some, but the entire family on both sides ?

Some cousins ere not invited to our wedding, same at my daughters weddings .

I doubt she had a set number of guest she could invite

Sparklefizz Mon 08-Apr-19 16:37:07

Annie Well, I can understand that a little bit because if you ask one, you've got to ask the others.

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 16:26:56

The fact her parents have siblings, surely there are cousins, yet not one member of her paternal and maternal families were invited .

Namsnanny Mon 08-Apr-19 16:16:54

It was on ch5 and can probably be seen on catchup.

But in essence, her fathers first family and his second co mingled well, and loved her dearly allbeit there were big age differences. They were the average middle class family.
Megan was given everything money could buy, including an education at the most expensive schools in the world, mixing with celebs children, heads of states (from other countries) etc. The average cost for one year (without extras) was $79-80.000.
Her father worked in television (maybe her aspirations to become an actress were encouraged because of his experience?)
He has since become bankrupt.
She hasn't offered (he has never asked this of her) to help him financially.
After all this she didn't even ask the step family to the wedding which (imv naturally hurt them).
P. Harry laboured under the misunderstanding she had no real family experience (see his radio discussion about how she loved the experience of 'having a family christmas' with the royals ). Which galled the step family who say they doted on her and shared all kinds of normal family experiences (Christmas gifts summer breaks weekends together etc.,)
When she married (first husband) she didn't manage to get anything of consequence (I mean in her chosen career of acting) until Suits (was it?).
In other people's words her husband mentored and financially supported her.

Upshot family and friends from way back when, feel they have been ousted in favour of those who will help her image.

I don't watch anything about the young royals. Occasionally a little about the Queen, but with all the chatter about her I thought I'd see if there was any way of cutting through the gossip.
I must say this was the nearest I think we shall ever get to the truth.

I encourage others to watch it and see if they feel the same way!

gillybob Mon 08-Apr-19 14:34:10

I didn't see the documentary Namsnanny as I tend to avoid anything on TV to do with the current "royals" like the plague.

What made you feel differently about M's father and half sister? Did you feel sorry for them or the opposite?

From what I have read I think she maybe has landed her starring role in the production of a lifetime and has cast aside anyone she no longer needs (like her own family) whilst lavishing her attention on fellow celebrities like the Clooneys and Beckhams who can bring something to her celebrity table. Not a very nice way to go on I would say.

Sparklefizz Mon 08-Apr-19 14:29:37

No, Namsnanny I didn't see that, what did it say?

Namsnanny Mon 08-Apr-19 13:28:55

“Documentary”

Namsnanny Mon 08-Apr-19 13:28:04

I haven’t read all the replies so forgive me if I’m repeating things others have said but, did anyone see the document about Megan with contributions from her half sister? Very illuminating I thought!!! I feel differently about her father now...and her.

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 12:58:31

I agree Jennifer, and money cannot buy freedom .

gillybob Mon 08-Apr-19 12:50:08

Aaah bless her she’s down to her last ....

www.tepilo.com/blog/2017/07/how-much-property-does-the-queen-own

JenniferEccles Mon 08-Apr-19 12:46:35

Well no, the Queen has never had to worry about money - we all know that, but honestly would any of us like to have lived her life?

She may live in palaces (which incidentally she doesn't own) but her whole life has been spent in public duty, speaking to endless boring heads of state on, no doubt, incredibly tedious foreign trips.

Her life is not her own to spend as she wishes. How many of us could stand being recognised, stared at and photographed wherever we went?

She spends a lot of time at Windsor castle, yet can't just have a browse around the town or walk along the river as we can.

Immense wealth doesn't necessarily equate to contentment does it?

There are quite a few royals I have no time for (Meghan for one) but I think the queen has upheld her pledge to serve the nation admirably.

gillybob Mon 08-Apr-19 12:46:01

So it’s your suggestion then Annie well
I’m up for it, but it’s really not going to happen . Still it seems she’s got plenty “little” cottages dotted around that she could have done up instead .

maryeliza54 Mon 08-Apr-19 12:44:16

Any head of state ( whether royal or not) has to have an appropriate official residence to carry out their duties. A 3 bed semi would not quite cut it. It’s the extravagance that’s the issue

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 12:40:05

Why not Gilly ? Save us so much money. Windsor Castle, KP, Buck House can be turned into flats ,

Visiting heads of state can be met in a hotel suite

maryeliza54 Mon 08-Apr-19 12:32:10

So the alternative to several palaces etc is a 3 bedroomed house? I get so tired of these false dichotomous arguments

gillybob Mon 08-Apr-19 12:30:09

Who suggested they should Annie?

Anniebach Mon 08-Apr-19 12:29:18

Does any head of state live in 3 bedroomed house ?
