What do you make of the interview? Although not agreeing with Farage I did think he had a point about the type of questions asked rather than focusing on the current situation. I think Marr was badly prepared.

If a party has only been going a few weeks, there is very little to ask it's leader that is directly relevant to the party. On the other hand discussing the leaders past - forming and running a similar party, a decade or more of a public political career, it seems quite reasonable to quiz him about his previous party and previous stements.

If I was thinking of voting for a one issue party and it came out after I had voted for it, that its leader was a close friend of Victor Orban the fascist racist Hungarian PM and shared his political views and although political inner circles knew this it never got out to the wider voting population. I would be really p***ed off. (the example given is purely fictitious and does not, to my knowledge describe any politician in the public eye)

Thanks for the picture Whitewavemark2 His extreme right wing views seem to have been well known, when he was younger-used to sing "Gas 'em all" etc. I wonder why no-one brings that up in interviews?

Andrew Marr was totally thrown by Farage's responses. I have never seen an interviewer so seriously out of his depth. Marr had absolutely nothing for him and was shell-shocked that he could not humiliate him. He could not react to a line of discussion he was not prepared for.

Marr has lost any credibility he had as has the BBC. It was a transparent hatchet job interview and Farage, like him or not, exposed that.

Red Andy as he was known at University was was totally reliant on his script - one designed to humiliate Farage.

Farage made mince-meat of him. No matter how absurd Marr looked, he kept going back to his smear-campaign. It highlighted the Biased Broadcasting Corporation's disgraceful pro-EU stance.

The license fee will have to be scrapped soon. The BBC is no longer neutral. The corporation is now TELLING us what to think, (it is evident in dramas too) and the version is straight from the little red left-wing handbook.

The BBC sank to a new low in so openly wanting to destroy Farage but how the tables turned. A brilliant piece of TV.

I thought Marr looked embarrassed to have to be dealing with somebody with no manners whatsoever.

trisher Tue 14-May-19 19:26:18

There has been a lot posted on GN about people worshipping Corbyn but I think nothing can compare with the slavish devotion of Farage Fans. Is blustering, protesting, gurning and grumbling really how political leaders should behave?

Lily65 Tue 14-May-19 19:34:13

Blimey trisher, I wouldn't care to worship either!

varian Tue 14-May-19 19:50:53

This was nowhere near Andrew Marr's best interview . No doubt his bosses at the Brexit Broadcasting Corporation had instructed him to give Farage an easy ride.

Even so Farage exposed himself as a lying hypocritical egoistical charlaton. How could anyone ever believe a word he says!

GillT57 Tue 14-May-19 19:56:02

day6. Maybe you would like books burnt while you are at it? While I understand many are desperate to leave the EU, are you really so desperate that you are prepared to have this awful racist in a position of power?

Kandinsky Tue 14-May-19 19:57:43

Why do people expect NF to be as pure as the driven snow?
Anyone who’s risen to the very top of politics will be no angel.
If you scrutinised any high profile politician you’d find plenty of mud to sling I’m sure.
ALL politicians lie.
TM told us about a 1000 times we were leaving the EU on 29th March.
Did we?
No.

Bridgeit Tue 14-May-19 20:05:32

No need to pure as driven snow, just drop the arrogance, & stop talking down to everyone. His idea of getting his point across is to just rant as loudly & forceful as possible. Be afraid , be very afraid!

Kandinsky Tue 14-May-19 20:24:26

Are you afraid of all the far right leaders within the EU? most of them have far more power than Farage.

Your beloved EU is full of fascists.
NF is a pussycat compared to some of them.

Grandma70s Tue 14-May-19 20:27:54

I’m afraid, Bridgeit. The rise of the far right in this country and the rest of Europe has so many parallels in the 1930s. To see so many people admiring Farage’s noise and bluster is truly alarming.

jura2 Tue 14-May-19 20:30:38

Igf you think NF is a pussycat, you have well and truly been brain washed. He is nothing, and at the same time very dangerous.

Marr was totally right to insist on checking his past views and beliefs and check if they still apply- as he is standing on NO manifesto bar Brexit. It should be illegal to stand without a clear manifesto, I feel, btw.

NF lied and lied and misled, right through the campaign - saying we would have a brilliant customs deal, saying we should be like Norway and Switzerland, again, and again and again some more, every chance he got. They have to abide by EU rules, have to pay large sums, have to be in Schengen, have to abide by Free Movement of people. So either he was out and out being dishonest and misleading, or he is so badly informed and th*ck. Which is it?

Bridgeit Tue 14-May-19 20:31:04

The EU is not beloved to me, nor is Little England, I am sick of the us & them see saw, times are a changing & we need to change with it , who knows where it will all end, I like some things about being in the EU & I like something’s about not being in the EU . I try to use logic not divisive emotion.

Bridgeit Tue 14-May-19 20:32:50

How anyone can miss his megalomaniac attitude is beyond me!

Bridgeit Tue 14-May-19 20:39:14

I agree goodpost Grandma70s, it is very worrying indeed

Grandad1943 Tue 14-May-19 22:27:14

Anyway, all this talk of jobs and Chernobyl is distracting from the forthcoming biggest night of the year on Television, that being this Saturday night

Is everybody stocking up with copious amounts of food and wine and clearing their WhatsApp ready?

Grandad1943 Tue 14-May-19 22:29:27

Apologies for the above that should have gone on our family WhatsApp Channel. ?

Grandad1943 Tue 14-May-19 22:30:46

Getting too old for duel tasking. ?

Urmstongran Tue 14-May-19 22:32:25

It sounds like fun. Grandad! Hope you all have a great time!
?

Urmstongran Tue 14-May-19 22:35:33

Seems likely! A duel at our age would be stressful!

But dual tasking might just about be doable.
?

Grandad1943 Tue 14-May-19 22:38:34

Thanks Urmstongran, we all love the Eurovision Song Contest. It's a great laugh with all the grandchildren and rest of the family involved on WhatsApp.

Great time, but apologies for interrupting this discussion.

Urmstongran Tue 14-May-19 23:00:12

Not a problem! In fact I think your post was refreshing because it was out of context.

It gave the thread an opportunity to re-set.

Talking of television, I am very struck by the obvious comparison between Nigel Farage and Jeremy Kyle, both of whom have pandered to the same lowest common denominator raw emotions of those they exploit.

Nonnie Wed 15-May-19 10:54:05

kandinsky I shall explain to you the difference between what you call TM's lies and NF's. TM believed it when she said we would leave on 29th March, NF knows he is telling lies. Easy really.

I would appreciate it if you would explain your post about far right EU. Thank you.

I doubt that any of us are 'beloved' of the EU, we simply have done our homework and recognise that it is better in than out. So easy to be negative about something rather than think it through and weigh up the options.
