Not eu. iPad self corrected.
By special request, let’s discuss our favourite Classic Music and why?
What a disgraceful speech, by AW, with the obnoxious NF laughing along.
Wither or not you want to leave the EU, the behaviour of these two was IMO shameful.
Not eu. iPad self corrected.
I don’t care what her views on the EU are, it is her cruel outdated bigotry towards women in particular & her narrow minded beliefs & opinions .
Is it because of her religion that she's as narrow minded as she is ? Catholics at one time were pretty restrained regarding their way of life depending how strict their beliefs were.
She started off as CoE but converted because of female vicars. She’s so weird.
I generally tend not to get into discussions about politics, as it always ends up with disagreements/arguments. Whether people voted in or out is their business, and I'm sure they have their own reasons, but I do find it all becoming rather embarrassing now. Not only have we become a laughing stock, but everyone's going to hate us even more than they did before. I feel like I can never go to Europe again without hanging my head in shame, or try to hide the fact that I'm British! What must everyone think of us? I know there are some out there who simply couldn't care less, but a lot of us do!
Nice twitter thread on EU 'oppression' here
twitter.com/GuitarMoog/status/1147043706689720321
The EU is a government in all but name. It has all the powers, resources and trappings of the state from a legislature and an executive, to its own courts, central bank and soon a military.
Oh, for heaven's sake, UG. Every organisation, large or small has a 'government' of some kind. Does it really need spelling out?
I was watching NF face as He was watching AW make her speech, how pleased he seemed to have found a mouthpiece to express his views without he himself having to say a thing, just like a child watching a favourite wind up toy perform.
simply because the poster doesn’t agree with your views.
It's a shame that we can't time travel! I'm willing to bet that had anyone tried to discuss the EU on this forum 10 years ago (or even, perhaps, 5 years ago) there would have been very little interest and certainly no hysteria about being 'oppressed' by the institution. I can't help feeling the the 'views' we're hearing have been fed to people by the right wing media and politicians over the past few years and most of them are just repeating what they've been fed.
Disclaimer: I do understand that a tiny number of people have been anti-EU for many years but I don't for one moment believe that that is most of the Leave posters on here.
It isn’t even most people priority now. Most people worry about NHS, schools etc. All a result of lack of investment over the past decade.
You can believe whatever you want to Maizie, your belief doesn’t make it correct.
Plus, the poster was rude to Urmstongran, and there’s no getting away from that. I’ve come to expect it on political threads though, so it wasn’t a surprise.
You can believe whatever you want to Maizie, your belief doesn’t make it correct.
I hope you apply that principle to your own 'beliefs' about the EU.
I based my comments on poll results over the years which show that, most of the time, fewer than 10% of the UK population thought that the EU was an important issue.
the poster was rude to Urmstongran
It seems that rudeness is fine if you dislike the views you're being rude about. The BP MEPs have shown us all the way...
MaizieD....yes, you can believe anything you like, but as Maddy says, it doesn’t make you right!
Since you know nothing at all about any posters who voted to leave the EU and their reasons for doing so, and know nothing at all about how many years they have held that view, your belief is a bit strange.
As regards ‘unhinged’ BlueBelle and EllanVannin that word is coming to represent hysterical remainers more and more on SM.
Seems to me that, when people don't have a reasoned agreement to support Brexit they play the 'personal insult' card.. [imo]….
Absolutely ghastly woman. I despair of what's happening in our country at the moment. The country seems totally split down the middle, and I can't see any politician who is capable of putting together a post-Brexit Britain any time soon. To be honest it's not going to affect gransnetters much either way, as most of us have a decent standard of living, pensions, home ownership, savings etc. Obviously the NHS is a concern with so many talented professionals either going home or not coming in from Europe. There are already shortages. If the economy does take a nose-dive it will affect our children and grandchildren in terms of the employment situation. Grim and worrying times. What a pity Cameron decided on the Referendum.
'Oppressed' by the EU, says AW, a representative of the UK, the 'poor man of Europe', which enjoyed a meteoric rise from that position to 5th wealthiest nation in the world as a member of that trading bloc.
With AW as our representative, it's heaven help us. Surely even some of her supporters were shock by her outburst. What with the Johnson/Hunt scenario being played out and how this on the world stage, we are mad for tolerating it.
I do agree with you Greta8.
I think these Brexit MEPs are a complete embarrassment. Their antics are as bad as those of Kyrgios at Wimbledon or of a child going through the terrible twos.
I wrote to my MEPs after their silliness , backs turned episode and of course they haven't had the manners to acknowledge (apart from one Lib-Dem). But what did I expect ?
I m not hysterical in the least lemongrove but hearing that shouting banshee and watching the total disrespect of turning their backs is so embarrassing I don’t even want to admit I come from England any more so very ashamed of my country’s representatives who DO NOT represent me
Since you know nothing at all about any posters who voted to leave the EU and their reasons for doing so, and know nothing at all about how many years they have held that view, your belief is a bit strange
I realise that your reasoning processes are hampered by your inability to interpret statistics, lemon. It would be a very strange thing indeed if every single Leave voter on Gnet had spent the last 40+ years brooding over their oppression by the EU.
But the last three years have been very strange indeed, so I suppose there is a statistical one in many millions chance that you might be right...
Anyway, right or wrong, you enjoyed having a little poke at me...
Yes, westendgirl, those puerile antics were pathetic!! Says all you need to know about them. Well done for writing.
GillT57
So eloquently put!
Over 70 years of peace and friendship with Europe is at jeopardy because of a few unhinged individuals
What complete and utter Remainer tosh!
We are not going to bloody war! We are leaving a trading bloc, which is about to consume the 'member states' within it, most of whom rely on the dodgy Euro as currency!
Thank goodness we are getting out. I think Leavers should compile a volume of GN Remainer scare-mongering and end-of-world-predictions.
It is unbelievable!
Seems to me that, when people don't have a reasoned agreement to support Brexit they play the 'personal insult' card.. [imo]…
Ho, ho ho....and that NEVER works the other way round, does it Labaik? {hmm] <sigh> .
Not only have we become a laughing stock, but everyone's going to hate us even more than they did before
And here we go again.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Do Remainers REALLY believe the rubbish they write? Exactly WHO hates us???
Well said, quiz queen.
