"Dodgy euro" do you remember before the Eu when the pound the pound STERLING had been devalued and was in so much trouble that we tied it to the dollar ? All currencies have strong and weak times the euro isn't unique

We are coming to the end of a long river/ canal trip through France from Marseille to Calais. As you would imagine we have had many conversations with a broad mixture of French people.
I would say that it's 50/50 with those who support the uk leaving.

Anne Widdicombe is and has always been loathsome - but before her idiocy was not seen outside these shores. Now she is apparently representing us. Deeply depressing.

I should imagine the French people described by Petra as supporting our leaving are just sick to the back teeth of us and our antics!

The French people may or may not be sick of us, but I think perhaps they should put their own house in order before condemning us. How long have the yellow vests been campaigning now?

French people, and Parisians in particular, are very different to us - their history dictates that if they have a particular grievance then they take direct action - hence the gilet jaunes - good for them!!! Because we're more laid back, whatever side we are of the EU debate we're always shafted by our government. Personally I'm sick of it - so can completely understand how French people feel about us!! It's now totally embarrassing to be British - considered by Europeans to be laughingly insular and ignorant. Good luck to the people who think we'll be able to turn the clock back to some mythical marvellous rose-tinted time - think it will take more than Brexit for that to happen.

You cannot have any idea how many years any leave voters on GN have wished we were not in the EU/had never gone into it in the first place.

Since I have been on a little holiday I have no idea what Widdy said, but whatever it was it would be interesting ( if contentious!)what any MP or MEP says never makes me feel ashamed to be British, I never understand why people use that phrase.One person never represents a whole country.

Well it wasn’t me, regardless of what anyone thinks about AW.

We cannot pretend the French have ever had any great love for the British, we couldn’t even join the then EEC until de Gaulle died because he blocked our every effort to join! And yes, we have a VERY different history to the French and to all countries on the continent, and it is said that this is one of the reasons for Brexit, because we were a bad fit in the EU. We were also accused regularly of being the bad boy of Europe, apparently because we vetoed things, and argued about things, and were generally making a nuisance of ourselves. Going right back to Thatcher we were regarded as a nuisance when she demanded that we had the rebate, because she said quite rightly that as we were a big payer in, but got a lot less back, then we should have a rebate. No doubt that was quite annoying to the EEC/EU commissioners at the time.
Yes, the French are always causing some sort of bother with their strikes and demonstrations, I suspect we’ve all got used to seeing them on the tv screen, especially at peak holiday times. If we’re more laid back than other countries, it’s because we are a far, far more tolerant society than many others, particularly those on the continent.

Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt are both elected by their constituents; the Leader of the Conservative party is selected first by MPs, then by party members, and will then become Prime Minister. Entirely different from the EU system.
Also, in this country, ballots are secret; who voted for whom is none of your business.

Well, once again the internet is divided regarding Widders.

Since I have been on a little holiday I have no idea what Widdy said Same here lemon haven't tuned into the news for a while, so I had a look this afternoon.

She may hold some strange views, but she shares mine, and millions of others thoughts regarding the urgency of leaving the corrupt and undemocratic organisation that is the EU.

It is probably the first time in that parliament that anyone has criticised the way the EU works, and it was well overdue! Widdecombe did it and it may have been in a strange and eccentric barnstorming fashion but she has received plaudits galore for telling it as it is!

But of course Remainers will say she was awful.

She speaks for Leavers everywhere, so Widders, harangue the EU parliament at every opportunity, I say!

Yes easybee, we have never elected our Prime Ministers, we elect our MPs, and each party has it’s own method of selecting their leader, they usually choose someone in a safe seat, otherwise it would theoretically be possible for the leader of the party to lose their seat in an election. There is a long list of people who have taken over the leadership of their party mid term, and they have often then become PM. Theresa May, Gordon Brown, John Major and James Callaghan to name the most recent ones.

You may not like her as a person, or share her views.

You may rake up muck and fling it regarding her religious convictions. You have done, I see.

However, as an MEP for the Brexit Party she is doing a bloody good job telling them that we intend to leave. She's only been there five minutes and she is making an impression. I do hope her speech was broadcast far and wide throughout Europe, then other people feeling less than happy with the corrupt EU may be inspired to rise up and protest against it, as we did.

I’m not sure of who might have taken over the leadership of the opposition during a term of parliament, but there are probably some, and that person then becomes the official leader of the opposition.

Isn't it strange how Remainers conveniently forget Ann Widdecombe also said this in her maiden speech.

"If I needed any convincing at all, that the best thing for Britain is to leave here as soon as possible, it was the way that those elections were conducted yesterday.

"If that is this place's idea of democracy, it's a serious betrayal of every country that is represented here.

It's amazing how quiet GN Remainers have been regarding the appalling lack of democracy regarding the most recent EU appointments. Not one name on a ballot paper.All decided behind closed doors.

This has been a criticism of the EU for years. The member states have little if no voice.
