What a disgraceful speech, by AW, with the obnoxious NF laughing along.
Wither or not you want to leave the EU, the behaviour of these two was IMO shameful.

Lessismore Sun 07-Jul-19 21:26:20

oh sigh....because this wretched woman sees fit to pontificate ( yes I use the word) about Gays being evil and Science will find an answer.

How dare she.

SirChenjin Sun 07-Jul-19 21:29:46

I suppose it boils down to whether you think the AW was appropriate in using a slavery metaphor to describe the EU or whether her hugely offensive speech inside the chamber was representative of the revolting views and her poor judgment she exhibits outside it.

BlueBelle Sun 07-Jul-19 21:30:56

Undemocratic EU that’s a laugh I believe many Tory voters have been now been sent more than one voting card
now that democracy at its best
Everything is rotten to the core about this whole sorry mess

lemongrove Sun 07-Jul-19 21:37:26

If she didn’t mention gay people in the speech to the EU, why mention it...the OP is all about what she said in the EU chamber.
Whatever her views are on anything at all outside being an MEP ( for now) what do they matter?

SirChenjin Sun 07-Jul-19 21:38:15

I refer you back to my previous post

lemongrove Sun 07-Jul-19 21:41:00

What I am saying lessismore is there is no need to worry about her pontificating about anything outside of EU matters, and even that isn’t for long as we will soon be out of the EU.
Why anyone bothers about what she says is a mystery.

SirChenjin Sun 07-Jul-19 21:52:16

Unfortunately, much as I (and I suspect many like me) would like to think of this odious woman as an irrelevance she now holds a prominent position that gives credence to her widely known and offensive views. So not really a mystery at all.

lemongrove Sun 07-Jul-19 22:01:44

I don’t think that being an MEP for a few months gives credence to anyone.
All that most of joe public knows of Anne Widdecombe is that she gave an amusing performance on Strictly.
Yes, her views on the EU are now being aired, but nothing else.

SirChenjin Sun 07-Jul-19 22:15:53

We’ll have to disagree on that. She’s very well known in U.K. politics, as are her extreme views, and has kicked off her appearance at the EU by making very offensive and ill educated comments about slavery. She’s not an irrelevance, no matter how much I (and others) would like her to be, and it’s disingenuous to suggest otherwise.

And on that note I’m heading off to bed, having wasted far too much time tonight discussing a bigot. Night smile

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 22:27:28

Lemongrove I cannot believe that you say it doesn’t matter what she says .
To start with Her views regarding ,abortion & homosexuality should be of concern to us all.
She is compassionless , narrow minded ,& inflexible.
She is the polar opposite of what this Country stands for.
A disgraceful example of all that we have fought to eradicate.

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 22:30:48

Me too SirChenjin

Lessismore Sun 07-Jul-19 22:31:12

Why anyone bothers about what she says is a mystery.

Because it is offensive?

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 22:32:30

Exactly, thankyou , Lessismore

Deedaa Sun 07-Jul-19 22:44:31

She is relevant because of the worrying fact that enough people voted for her to get her elected.

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 22:53:03

Exactly ,thankyou Deeda

MawBroonsback Sun 07-Jul-19 23:20:03

AW is not what is called a “cradle catholic” but converted as a protest against the ordination of women in the C of E.
That should have rung some warning bells even the .

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 23:31:12

Thanks MawBroon, Wow unbelievable

Minniemoo Sun 07-Jul-19 23:35:07

I rather like her. She's an eccentric. I don't agree with all of her views but that really doesn't matter. I have friends from all political parties and we are able to communicate and enjoy each other's company without insulting each other. Something that doesn't seem to happen online!

Bridgeit Sun 07-Jul-19 23:40:53

That’s probably because you know your friends well, & can read their expressions & hear tone of voice.

Minniemoo Mon 08-Jul-19 00:11:52

Very true, Bridgeit. The subtleties we expose, vis a vis, are totally lost on social media etc etc

Eloethan Mon 08-Jul-19 01:03:14

I cannot understand why any intelligent woman - or intelligent man - would find Anne Widdecombe's views of any value whatsoever. She obviously dislikes women or indeed anyone that doesn't fit her narrow view of what humanity should look like or behave like.

I usually find her views annoying but her latest statement comparing the experience of being a member of the EU with that of being a slave is just outrageous. David Lammy was, rightly in my view, absolutely furious about this ridiculous comparison. However, his twitter elicited some appalling comments aimed at him - I suppose it is hardly surprising that these sorts of bigots have a lot in common with Widdecombe and her equally bigoted ideas.

Linda369 Mon 08-Jul-19 08:51:22

Like others I am so embarrassed by the actions of Ann et al but even more so to think that people voted for her. I also despair at the lies so many people seem to have fallen for. I am genuinely terrified at the country my grandchildren will grow up in.

Johno Mon 08-Jul-19 08:54:40

Anne Widdicombe is showing that great British Bulldog spirit. A woman of conviction and principle. The best speech for many a long year. Well done Anne. I hate the Torys and Farage/BP but I have always liked Anne Widdicombe and others of integrity unafraid to speak out giving two-fingers to the PC garbage.

Johno Mon 08-Jul-19 08:55:48

David Lammy is the vilest, inciter of racial hatred in parliament today. Lammy should be arrested.

Johno Mon 08-Jul-19 08:56:46

Minniemoo - well said you. I was beginning to wonder if rational people had been wiped out.
