I don't mind a bit of tennis, but right now, as I type the same match is being shown on both BBC 1 AND 2!

(And there's grunting/sighing)

As a licence fee payer, who would like to watch Casualty, I'm feeling pretty pissed off angry

Oh dear. Sorry my yearly treat has upset so many of you. Wimbledon fortnight is just me and the TV. Family and friends know it is non-negotiable - no child/dog minding and so on. The BBC's coverage is second to none. It is only two weeks each year and hardly Glastonbury ! Apologies folks but I am having a Deuce of a time. Love all.

hulahoop Sun 07-Jul-19 11:34:48

I agree there should be a dedicated sports channel we don't watch any sport what uses a ball although I felt for women's football team they are very good .there are lots of sports never mentioned I agree blinko far too much sport on news.

I’ve missed both Holly and Casualty this week. In their place tennis, football, cricket. I’m generally easy going but this is TOO MUCH!

These are the only soaps I watch and are a looked forward to feature on Tuesday and Saturday. Just right for me before I depart for bed.

I suspect the BBC is partially doing this, especially with the tennis to save on their budget. They would be better to encourage young new presenters, to save money on their celebrity presenters. I feel so cross that TV for the over 75s is to be abolished except for those on pension credits and some presenters are IMO grossly overpaid. I don’t care what their market value is; the BBC is a public service, I pay my licence to support the BBC and want value for money.

I’m quite happy for the BBC to use the red button service. They should put the additional sport on there.
???

Holby ?

angie95 Sun 07-Jul-19 11:48:42

I do watch Casualty so I wasn't happy that there was more Tennis instead, not everyone watches the tennis, and it's on both flaming channels! Have been watching Stargate Atlantis instead! And why the hell do the women have to make so much noise, ??? The men don't.. ladies it's not sexy, you sound as if you are constipated!

Minniemoo Sun 07-Jul-19 12:01:50

My first post on here. I just lurk but had to comment! As an avid tennis fan I look forward to Wimbledon every year. The 2 matches on both channels was for less than a minute when they do a handover from BBC 1 to 2 or vice versa. I hate football and despair with all the coverage but am aware that many millions enjoy it. I suppose today we don't need to worry so much with Netflix, Sky, Amazon Prime, DVDs etc etc we aren't quite as tied to the same 4 stations.

Hazeld Sun 07-Jul-19 12:04:09

Personally I can't understand why anyone wants to watch people hitting a ball over a net for hours on end anyway. It's just like watching a group of people kicking a ball round a field. How boring are they.

Overthehills Sun 07-Jul-19 12:05:43

I’m with all those who love Wimbledon but I do wish BBC had a dedicated sports channel because then we’d get even more !!!
As NanKate suggested pour yourselves a nice drink and think how much more you’ll enjoy your favourite programmes in just over a week’s time - yes it really is only a fortnight!

RosemaryAnne Sun 07-Jul-19 12:08:59

Totally agree Phoenix. Waiting for Casualty too yesterday. Same as Holby City last week!

Kim19 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:09:12

I tuned in looking for Casualty but so glad I stuck with the game that appeared. Such skill and stamina happening there beggars belief. I was totally caught up in it and haven't watched much tennis for years. Thank you BBC.

Bobdoesit Sun 07-Jul-19 12:11:22

I can't stand Tennis! Drives me up the wall especially all the grunting and groaning. However, several friends love it - so live and let live I guess.

Nanny41 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:25:47

I enjoy Wimbledon but yesterday was too much blockning two channels then no Casualty which I had been looking forward to they often take off Casualty when something more important to watch I expect next Saturday will be the same.Keep your hair on ladies!

Shazmo24 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:46:31

Get over yourself.. it was a matter if moments and Dan Evans was playing as was Andy & Serena..you've got plenty of other channels to choose from

nanamac77 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:47:02

I take umbrage to that comment , as would my daughter, Eve.

( Not quite sure where to take it, but will find somewhere)

rockgran Sun 07-Jul-19 12:48:14

Casualty wasn't just late - it wasn't on at all. Nor is the episode on iplayer. I find that it is often moved about for sport with no warning. Weekend TV is dire for non-sports fans. It may just be two weeks of tennis but then there's all the other sports. I even have BT Sport 'free' with my internet but suspect I am paying handsomely for some thing I don't use. angry

BRAVEBETH Sun 07-Jul-19 12:49:05

I am really sorry that so many of you are cross. However as a full time carer for my mother 24/7 . It is my only pleasure of the year and for the last 13 years. I have to put up with soap opera rubbish all year and you complain for 13 days out of 365 days - real tennis fans have access to tennis.

Lancslass1 Sun 07-Jul-19 12:57:19

Well said Bravebeth.
I have never watched Casualty.
I don’t watch any soap operas.
I have no objection to having Wimbledon on for a fortnight.
If I want to I can switch off which is what I do when Sue Barker introduces the so called Celebrities who are watching the tennis for free in the Royal Box and being wined and dined into the bargain.
Now that does make my blood boil.

pamdixon Sun 07-Jul-19 13:01:41

I don't like watching footie and get fed up when its on for hours sometimes (ditto cricket, rugby). But personally I love tennis so I'm a happy bunny at the moment - but I do know how annoying it is when you don't want wall to wall coverage of a sport you are not interested in. No win situation?!! But as the others have said, its only on for 2 weeks and no tennis this Sunday for instance.

Crazygran Sun 07-Jul-19 13:05:46

Absolutely fed up of sport. Why do they assume everyone in country is interested !!!!??!

sylviann Sun 07-Jul-19 13:19:20

I was hoping to watch casualty I am really fed up with BBC they always take casualty and holby city and replace them. I am very tempted to opt out of the license fee as the only other BBC programme I watch is line of duty I'm sure I could watch that at my sons

sodapop Sun 07-Jul-19 13:24:56

We don't understand BraveBeth and Lancslass why it had to be on both BBC channels at the same time and on the red button. Casualty was cancelled with no notice at all.
I understand you enjoy tennis and Wimbledon is only on for two weeks, but it does reach saturation point in those two weeks.

nightswimmer Sun 07-Jul-19 13:25:37

Thank goodness for iplayer

Jzpap Sun 07-Jul-19 13:31:26

I thought the BBC had made some sort of mistake when I saw Wimbledon on 1 & 2 last pm. I’m not a tennis fan anyway but surely someone can’t watch tennis on two channels at once and the red button? I suspect it’s just a lazy money saving exercise on behalf of the BBC. I’m not begrudging tennis fans in any way it’s just that sometimes you can have too much of a good thing.
On a similar vein I noticed this morning that BBC2, ITV and C4 are all showing cookery programmes in one style or another, using the ‘Zoo’ format and all at the same time.

Grannyrebel27 Sun 07-Jul-19 13:50:10

Enjoyed that match last night. Very exciting as you just didn't know who was gonna win. I like Casualty but I can go without it for a few Saturdays. Have to admit is is utter rubbish though!

Lancslass1 Sun 07-Jul-19 13:51:50

I presume the same match wasn’t on both Channels at the same time,Soda pop.
If so, I can see where you are coming from.
I rarely watch anything but sport on a TV -mostly on Sky so am enjoying the cricket and tennis.
