AIBU to expect a supermarket to provide----

Our new Aldi and M&S foodhall both have new toilet facilities both are kept spotlessly clean you can check when they where cleaned last by the log book kept pinned to the wall in Aldi.

Neither here in Denmark or just across the border in Germany do Lidl, Aldi or any other supermarket have toilets. In the nearest German town there is a clean public toilet in the main square, but if we go shopping in the Danish shops we have to wee before leaving home, as there are no public toilets around.

As Lidl sells unpackaged fruit and vegetables it is probably a good thing they don't have toilets!

I think it depends on the size of the supermarket. I do at least half my shopping in our local Co-op and it’s hard to spend longer than 10 minutes in there, so I wouldn’t expect them to provide a public toilet, any more than I’d expect the Post Office next door, or the small bakery on the other side, to provide one.

On the other hand, five miles away there’s a horrible, enormous Tesco. I can’t remember the last time I went there. You have to penetrate acres of clothes, toys, electrical and household goods before you get to the food, and when you do, there’s so much of everything it takes at least half an hour to walk round, not including the time you spend walking round in circles looking for things that aren’t displayed in a logical fashion.
A store of this size clearly should have loos for the relief of their entrapped clientele.

I don’t have a problem finding loos in London - the bid stations have them and now they’re free( used to be 50p). Department stores, museums, galleries and if desperate nip into a MacDonalds. Our big new Aldi has loos as does Sainsbury’s.

Our small town has Sainsbury's, Lidl, Aldi AND public toilets although I've never used any of them as we're close enough to walk to all apart from Aldi which is only 5 mins in the car.

However we have a large retail park in the next town and the only place with toilet facilities is Next which is ridiculous. I pass a large Sainsbury's on the way and often call in there to use theirs as I invariably need to go as soon as I arrive!

In this day and age they should all have them.
We've just got a big new M&S foodstore and they don't. Unbelievable.

We have a Morrison’s which does have toilets (always clean) It also has a restaurant.

The Waitrose has neither a restaurant or toilets but is smaller

Our town has a small Lidl and recently the manager allowed my wee granddaughter to use their staff loo, as did B&M and Home Bargains. .

I’m not a Lidl shopper, but once on a long journey my grandson was sick all over the car, himself his car seat, we were passing a Lidl, so I went in bought packets of wet wipes, water, antibac for the initial clean up, then took him in to try and buy some clean clothes, they only had pyjamas, but that was fine, and their toilets were big, spotlessly clean and well equipped.
Another time on a long journey, I raced into one with a desperate child, and they let me use the staff loos, Thankyou Lidl!

When our Waitrose opened, there were no toilets, which I found annoying, but they’ve since installed some, must have had a lot of complaints.

I agree with Charleygirl - London is very poorly served for loos. Public loos are very rare and only the largest supermarkets have loos. Where I recently moved from the Tesco loos were the only ones in the area and were usually in a mess. My nearest shopping centre had no loos inside and only 2 loos in M&S which were also messy. Some Sainsburys lock their loos and you have to queue at customer services for a key - no good if you have urgency issues. Stations often have loos outside London but not inLondon suburbs.
When I go out I plan my route around where I know there are loos.

Our nearest Lidl has toilets and baby changing facilities. It is the one thing that put me off visiting their other stores in the area, but this is their newest one and it's nearest to us, so I go regularly!

Where I live it is only those with restaurants and there are no public loos remotely close and this is London.

Our refurbished Lldl has toilets and before they were refurbished if you asked (I once had a granddaughter who needed it) they let you use their staff one We have a new Aldi but to be honest I haven’t looked to see if they have Morrison’s, Asda, and Tesco all have

Sainsbury and Asda (no restaurants) and Morrisons (with restaurant) all provide in store toilets too. I think Tesco does as well, though don't often go there.
New Aldi being built so wait and see what they have.

Round here the only supermarkets that provide toilets are the ones that have a cafe. Lots of public toilets have closed down too. It's a shame.
