I think she is, she is so passionate , knowledgeable & informed.
If this isn’t shown or taught in all schools yet , let’s hope that it will be
She is certainly an inspiring example for & to us all.
Well done young lady .

that to Bridget

Rebellious Tue 24-Sept-19 23:04:22

Gonegirl we're doomed then DOOMED grin

Gonegirl Tue 24-Sept-19 23:05:25

Well, they are quite evil things actually. But there is no way we are ever going to find a better way. Unlike with cars.

gillybob Tue 24-Sept-19 23:05:55

I am not taking the pee (as you eloquently put it) * Bridgeit* I am being serious. I HATE CC hypocrisy and hate the thought of children bullying and manipulating other children too.

Gonegirl Tue 24-Sept-19 23:06:14

Not us rebellion. Not in our lifetime.....

Bridgeit Tue 24-Sept-19 23:06:18

Spelling not always my strong point, but thanks for pointing it out.

Gonegirl Tue 24-Sept-19 23:07:05

Unless, of course, you happen to live in the wrong part of the world.

Gonegirl Tue 24-Sept-19 23:07:48

moon

Rebellious Tue 24-Sept-19 23:08:59

We can only do our part Gonegirl and join the climate change rebellion. After my hip replacement preferably.

Gonegirl Tue 24-Sept-19 23:12:34

One thing I would ask before I go to bed.

Do GNrs really enjoy breathing in petrol and diesel fumes? And are you happy for your grandchildren's lungs being poisoned while they play in school playgrounds?

What have you all actually got against electric cars? confused

Bridgeit Tue 24-Sept-19 23:14:08

Gosh well it’s been an eye opener , one wonders what our own grandchildren will be like in time to come if we Grannies behave the way we do to each other, we don’t appear to be setting a very good example.

gillybob Tue 24-Sept-19 23:16:49

I think this thread is a healthy and good example of having a difference of opinion. Nothing more .

Night all x

MissAdventure Tue 24-Sept-19 23:17:37

Lets all have a lovely group hug? smile

MawB Tue 24-Sept-19 23:19:05

What have you all actually got against electric cars .
Who all ? - once they come down to an affordable level I’m up for one.
SIL already has a Tesla.

Rebellious Tue 24-Sept-19 23:19:19

Well love her or hate her, her message is being heard. If she changes just a handful of minds on the disaster that is climate change, she has won. More power to her.

Happiyogi Tue 24-Sept-19 23:31:26

If I heard any child in my family calling someone with autism or any other condition that makes them somehow different "a weirdo", I'd be horrified. I most certainly wouldn't be broadcasting their ignorance and presenting it as wisdom. I'm shocked.

And when things get truly difficult for us in this country because of climate change - severe heat, flooding and air pollution - I suspect we'll look back to these times which some posters think are quite difficult, and weep.

Katek Tue 24-Sept-19 23:31:36

I can’t speak for anyone else *gonegirl^ but electric cars have a significant impact on both people and the environment. Every battery these cars use contains cobalt and other heavy metals. 60% of the world’s cobalt is mined in the Congo. Mined - in many cases by hand - and by children working in appalling conditions including raised levels of radioactivity. They dig with bare hands and no protective equipment/clothing. Mining waste pollutes water courses and birth defects have been identified in families where the father works in the mines. shan’t be buying an electric car any time soon.

Well actually I agree with MawB. I am beginning to feel sorry for her and feel that it has taken over her life. And that latest speech where she was near to tears..... jest feel sorry for her and that it all to much for her now.

Barmeyoldbat Wed 25-Sept-19 01:46:12

I would love an electric car but they are so expensive to buy. Still up as I (unusual) can't sleep and having a hot chocolate.. Probably to much excitement today.

I think her passion and belief is amazing, however, I'm a little perturbed by her delivery. IMO it was aggressive and bordered on hate.

Although I have spoken in public and been on radio and television, albeit quite a while ago, I am pretty sure that I would feel somewhat overwhelmed speaking at the UN – let alone in another language. It seems to me that there is no doubt that Greta Thunberg feels passionately about climate change and there is also no doubt that the rate of change has been accelerating since the Industrial Revolution and increasingly so in the last hundred years. Of course the planet will not explode but animal life, including humans, will certainly suffer and some species, quite possibly including humans, will become extinct.

No, it is unlikely that our generation will experience the full impact, but this young woman and her generation will, as well as their yet unborn children. Of course it is frightening but to describe her speeches and protests as fear-mongering is absurd. Doesn't anyone else remember the sheer terror created by the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962 when many of us were Greta's age or younger? That was short-lived and cut off. This crisis requires immediate but longer-term remedies.

I don't recognise her emotion as hatred, but as anger. I think she is especially infuriated by Donald Trump who as President of the USA and a major figure in the world should be leading the way. However, he claims that climate change is a "Chinese hoax" and is removing laws and protections about pollution, fossil fuels and other regulations that are designed for safety and well-being. I for one don't blame her.

harrigran Wed 25-Sept-19 07:45:23

Not amazing.

craftyone Wed 25-Sept-19 07:56:48

used and abused, single track mind manipulated by adults. She has no childhood and will never grow up to be a normal person and might well end up in an institution. I feel very sorry for that automaton of a child

Loislovesstewie Wed 25-Sept-19 08:16:58

I'm going to say it again; she has autism . She is displaying lots of the traits of a high functioning autist. She is obsessed; she is single minded;intense focus on one subject; she will not listen to any point of view apart from her own; she gets angry when ignored or when people make points she disagrees with; difficulties with responding in social situations ( hence the anger at Trump) , she can't regulate emotions; really she is being driven by her autism.
For those unfamiliar with high functioning autism I am sure she comes across as being passionate in her beliefs, you might admire her because you agree with her and think she is doing a great job. But for those of us who live with them we see all of the above and feel sorry for her. She is likely to become mentally ill, ( depression, acute anxiety) and then what? There have been lots of people in history who displayed the characteristics of autism , most were extremely unhappy in adulthood . Do you want that for this young person?
No, the leave the cause to others Greta and get back to being a child.

gillybob Wed 25-Sept-19 08:20:25

Okay so upon reflection my use of the word “weirdo” might be a bit unkind and I apologise for that, but I make no apologies for the fact that I think she is becoming like a kind of CC grim reaper determined to steal the happiness from other ordinary children.
