Grannygranby you would be alright in our house, we have a long-handled shoehorn in our hallway; they are so cheap in IKEA that we bought one for each of our daughters so we can use them when we visit and even have one in the caravan!
We never insist on visitors removing their shoes except small GCs who climb up to sit on the furniture, though most do. We have a long 'magimat' in the hallway that removes most damp and dirt from footwear. I take slippers when visiting family.
Stiletto-type heels can be a serious nuisance on wooden floors. My DD lost her deposit when she left a rented home because a 'friend' wore stilettos to a party she held and left dents in the kitchen floor.
