Apparently, The Body Shop are sponsoring a display this year at the Chelsea Flower Show, as a feminist space, with plants and sculptures echoing the 'curves of the female form'.
What they have come up with, is a large sculpture of 'women's bits' with a few plants in front.
Call me old fashioned!
But I think this sort of thing is offensive and pathetic and am surprised that the RHS is 'enthusiastic and supportive' about it.

I quite enjoy some of the art I've seen, like the plastercasts of a hundred vaginas.

It's like a more intimate version of enjoying looking round peoples homes.

DorisDay99 Sat 25-Jan-20 14:27:49

who on earth thought of this - the worlds gone nuts to quote Mr Morgan

merlotgran Sat 25-Jan-20 14:29:09

What a shame Prince Philip is no longer in action grin I'm sure he'd have something to say about it.

merlotgran Sat 25-Jan-20 14:30:13

Do you think the Chelsea presenters will be drawing lots to comment on it?

Monty or Joe?

BBbevan Sat 25-Jan-20 14:46:09

Well my garden doesn’t look like that ?

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 14:47:56

Think they ought to wheel Philip out for the occasion. Suppose it might be a bit much for an old guy though. grin

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 14:48:41

Haven't seen mine for ages bbbevan

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 14:49:13

Suppose it's still down there

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jan-20 14:51:00

Mine looks like a vandalised bus seat.

BBbevan Sat 25-Jan-20 14:53:09

MissA. ????

MawB Sat 25-Jan-20 14:53:25

Unlike some I find “Lady Garden” the most mimsy, woke, shudder-inducing euphemism anybody could come up with!

SueDonim Sat 25-Jan-20 15:02:02

I’m not sure why the female anatomy is ‘offensive’, to quote the OP. Should we be ashamed of our body parts? confused The Scottish government has used a similar strategy in its campaign to get more women to sign up cervical screening. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9z2n0IsUzA

I’m also concerned that people think that it is a vagina that is depicted! It’s not. It’s a vulva.

GagaJo Sat 25-Jan-20 15:10:14

Hahahaha, MissAdventure!!!!

Pudendum SD?

BlueBelle Sat 25-Jan-20 15:15:45

MissAdventure love it???
I think lady gardens a fine euphemism prettier than meat and two veg

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 15:16:33

Nah! It's got the outside bits, the (whisper) labia, and then the vulva. I think it's got the (whisper even more quietly) 'c' bit as well.

love0c Sat 25-Jan-20 15:48:42

IMO distasteful and I do not understand the mentality of anyone doing this. It is a publicity stunt, done for no other reason.

SueDonim Sat 25-Jan-20 16:07:10

The photo comes up rather blurry on my screen, Lucywinter and I can’t see that level of detail! grin

Pudendum. What a word! Let’s use it more often! wink

merlotgran Sat 25-Jan-20 16:10:09

Info here

Blondiescot Sat 25-Jan-20 16:10:13

Well, given the reaction on here, I'd say they've already succeeded in terms of publicity!

M0nica Sat 25-Jan-20 16:44:38

What a ridiculous euphonysm 'Lady Garden' is, nauseously coy. Why not call body parts by their names? - genitals, pr puddenda if you prefer, then use the ordinary words labia, vagina etc.

I have yet to hear coy, avoiding terms for the liver, kidneys, pancreas etc.

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 16:51:14

I think it refers more to the part that we don't have so much of as we get older, rather than the internals. IYSWIM!

lucywinter Sat 25-Jan-20 16:52:04

Well, that's what I always thought when I saw it referred to on Mumsnet.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Jan-20 16:56:19

I think in this case its used in an ironic way, precisely because twee words are used to describe "down there" (said in a whisper)

NanTheWiser Sat 25-Jan-20 16:57:40

I do hope that the exhibit will include examples of Clitoria ternatea, named for its likeness to that part of the anatomy!

M0nica Sat 25-Jan-20 17:00:07

Never used twee words for talking about my genital area, nor did I teach my children any.

The phrase 'Lady Garden' is a phrase I heard for the first time only a year or two ago on GN.

If it means pubic hair why not say so. Mine seems to be as lush as it has always been.
