Apparently, The Body Shop are sponsoring a display this year at the Chelsea Flower Show, as a feminist space, with plants and sculptures echoing the 'curves of the female form'.
What they have come up with, is a large sculpture of 'women's bits' with a few plants in front.
Call me old fashioned!
But I think this sort of thing is offensive and pathetic and am surprised that the RHS is 'enthusiastic and supportive' about it.

Zaha Hadid's football stadium for Qatar 2022 is a play on the female form, surely, and therefore a good joke on the local social attitudes to women. For that reason I like it, even tho I thought it a bit rude at first sight. The context changed my view.

I struggle to view my pubic hair now as a rather attractive smooth round pink protuberance gets in the way - my belly!

Does HRH have a bottom. Four year old DD: "Is the queen full of poo?" - well, not quite full, sweetie, just a bit. She is a fully-fledged republican now.

How interesting Hollysteers!

A very revealing thread ladies with such a wide variety of opinions. From a mans point of view a ladies personal grooming preferences are her choice and from my own limited experience I have never commented one way or the other.
However, from my observations, on the beach or by the pool all women pay attention to their bikini line keeping everything tucked in.

There is a good film about this triangle called ‘Effie’.

hollysteers Wed 29-Jan-20 01:13:39

Bluesky, no because Millais was a full blooded heterosexual male and Ruskin? What can one say? Remained a virgin all his life (mother complex) and late infatuation with young girl...

BlueSky Tue 28-Jan-20 19:15:21

Well it didn't put off her second husband!

BBbevan Tue 28-Jan-20 18:48:04

Greeneyedgirl. I did a fine art degree in the 60s and a History of Art degree in the 80s, Even though they were 20yrs apart, both tutors mentioned Effie’s pubic hair. And not as ‘fake news’. Interesting eh?

GeorgyGirl Tue 28-Jan-20 17:33:25

Another sign of the times, lowered standards and no decorum.

Greeneyedgirl Tue 28-Jan-20 16:57:45

Like your pic seadragon. Perhaps it would do as a mural?

Greeneyedgirl Tue 28-Jan-20 16:55:18

Good story but apparently "fake news" but we'll never know!
Was apparently quite a scandal at the time when Effie applied for an annulment, married Millais and had 8 children!
The truth is probably nearer the fact that theirs was a marriage of convenience, she was apparently very beautiful with lots of admirers and didn't fancy Ruskin (who was spoilt by his parents).
He in fact encouraged her liaison with Millais, and never married again.

BBbevan Mon 27-Jan-20 19:42:07

Good story though

M0nica Mon 27-Jan-20 19:14:52

Except that the rumours about Ruskin are entirely false and date back only to 1965 interestingliterature.com/2012/12/ten-myths-about-the-victorians/

BBbevan Mon 27-Jan-20 17:38:58

Ah but most of the females do not have a garden or even a bush That was John Ruskin’s downfall. ,,,!,,

M0nica Mon 27-Jan-20 16:58:14

If they wanted to glorify human genitalia, why not a formal garden with featuring some of the ancient greek statues of naked men and women. They are invariably things of beauty and all parts of the visible anatomy are shown in the context of the whole body.

seadragon Mon 27-Jan-20 14:50:33

Just found an alternative design....!??....

Jaxie Mon 27-Jan-20 11:26:42

I absolutely hate this. What next, a giant floral penis?

Loobyloo12 Mon 27-Jan-20 11:05:35

I think all adults are aware of the difference between male and female genitalia. And why do we have to celebrate them? Who is the audience I wonder?

Sawsage2 Mon 27-Jan-20 01:33:05

stupid. thought up by a stupid person, just who enabled this to go through? ?

SirChenjin Sun 26-Jan-20 21:13:52

You’re most welcome Greeneyedgirl grin

Musicgirl Sun 26-Jan-20 21:09:23

It is tedious and childish. The same way that so-called comedians think that repeatedly saying the f word is hilarious.

Vivian123 Sun 26-Jan-20 19:55:10

I have no doubt Meghan will be enthralled!

Xrgran Sun 26-Jan-20 19:50:42
