for Expats in the EU who voted remain, to be relly upset and angry at neighbours and 'friends' who have voted to leave?

British expats (immigrants) in the EU are all going to be massively affected by Brexit- in 100s of ways- healthcare, driving licences, pensions, exchange rate loss, etc, etc. - whether they voted Remain or Leave. It is really going to affect their relationship with those who voted for those changes that will impact daily lives in such a significant way- especially in those ommunities where there are large numbers living in close proximity.

Cake and eating it. In another thread, after seeing in yet another that Jura was residing in Switzerland, I questioned what UK politics had to do with her - and was roundly told by some ally that it was to do with her because of her UK pension and that she might want to return (thinks... when in need of substantial medical care perhaps...). Definitely wanting the cake and the eating it of it. You made a choice, you live with it. Seems fair to me.

I have, thanks.

Jura2
Year after year you use the royal we/our when referencing the uk. Now, we are one almighty shit hole. Well you know what to do ?

First of all although I have lived here for too many years I thought myself as English and European. My family are here but ... well will cry might night Friday. I changed my driving papers a long time ago. Health insurance I pay an extra, about 1.500 euros per year as I am covered because I work here. I do pay taxes in the UK although I wasn’t allowed to vote. moreover when I was ill in GB seeing the doctor was free at the walk in centre but the young girl at the chemist charged me, I am 70. I would like to buy a flat in England but I believe as a person living abroad I am not allowed, (so I wouldn’t recommend the young man selling his place). In addition my building society insisted on closing my account which I held since I was young. All things are changing for me and not for the good sad

I’m a bit fed up of having someone deride my country, someone who has chosen to live in a country that has never even been in the EU, and looks exclusively to its own interests, and always has done.

maddyone Tue 28-Jan-20 20:00:34

I agree with you Maw.
This whole thread is getting tiresome.

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jan-20 19:52:58

Lucozade? Ah! That's ok then!

lemongrove Tue 28-Jan-20 19:36:44

I agree MawB (Lucozade?) ?this thread is just another moan from someone who can’t accept that we are leaving the EU.

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jan-20 19:33:38

Don't ask what's in the yellow bottles Maw shock

I've never seen any either

MawB Tue 28-Jan-20 19:32:49

If anything was designed to make others and myself lose patience with smug expats who have chosen to live in a tax haven “paradise” or even somewhere with better weather guess what it would be? hmm
(Apologies to Mamie, Carillion and others. )

Callistemon Tue 28-Jan-20 19:31:32

I was going to ask but decided I'd rather not know.

MawB Tue 28-Jan-20 19:29:02

And those yellow bottles of....
What yellow bottles? Of what ?
You must drive along very different country roads to those around me .

Ooeyisit Tue 28-Jan-20 19:25:23

Jura2 I haven’t heard anyone moaning . I have accepted the democratic vote as have all of my friends . It was a landslide. Still you think all those people are wrong , . It amazes me that remainers think everyone else is a thick uneducated moron. Be happy ,life’s too short relax ,enjoy life . Let’s move on .

Urmstongran Tue 28-Jan-20 19:17:52

Not quite Jura as the bit at least has the sense to keep quiet was your comment!
?

And then your second comment contradicted it which was confusing to say the least!

Ooeyisit Tue 28-Jan-20 19:15:48

Some people are short of something to do. It’s time to stop moaning . Find something to be happy about .Let the xpats worry about themselves . There is so much to be happy and grateful for and it’s tiresome listening to the same old waffle

jura2 Tue 28-Jan-20 19:15:33

Urmston- the first mention was just a quote of what YOU said. Second one followed Labaik's comment.

But you are right to be quiet, because as you say, it is really toxic. In the UK, but on speed x 1000 in expat communities. Fact.

jura2 Tue 28-Jan-20 19:13:39

Last visit, M20, M25, M11, M40, A14, M1- and of course amost country roads. Disgusting. My British OH gets even more upset about it as I do - litter dumping by roadsides and lay-bys too. And those yellow bottles of

Chewbacca Tue 28-Jan-20 19:13:32

And the thread was asking if it was unreasonable for expats/immigrants from UK to EU or EEA - to be fed up with other expats who actually voted to shoot themselves- and those around them who did not- in the foot.

jura, that's been answered over and over and over again! grin

And for the record, I do agree with Maw 're her last post. You have so many negative ideas about the UK; you rarely have a good thing to say about it. And yet you're outraged that the "majority" yes, I know, a slim one didn't think about ex pats in Switzerland when they cast their vote.

MawB Tue 28-Jan-20 19:06:12

Technology is simple, as proven at Dartford, and other places. The MWays in UK are a total disgrace of filth and litter - this money could pay for maintenance, improvements, better services and litter
I love the way you moan about how hard done by you are as an ex-Pat Jura and then slag off eg our motorways or service stations. The Dartford crossing can be a total nightmare.
Granted they are not like those in, for instance Germany, or the toll autoroutes in France but a total disgrace of filth and litter ? (Out of interest have you used the M6 toll? A pleasure to drive on )

Urmstongran Tue 28-Jan-20 19:05:30

Two posts from you this afternoon Jura referencing me & just 3 hours apart ....

Urmstongran knows what it feels like and says 'this is so toxic' - and at least has to sense to keep her vote and views quiet.

2 quite contradictory comments don’t you think Jura? Which one should represent what you think?

Urmstongran Tue 28-Jan-20 18:59:35

Not so Jura Urmstongran is proud on an anonymous forum- but does not have the bottle to stand by her vote proudly in real life

No-one has to divulge how they voted. It’s nothing to do with ‘pride’ that would be silly. It’s more an awareness that the subject is very divisive, it cannot be undone and what good would it do telling anyone abroad how I voted?

The referendum is done and dusted. It was a majority vote and compounded by Boris getting his stonking majority!

Nothing anyone can do about it now. Gloat or cry? Or just accept it is what it is. We are going round in circles here don’t you think?

Urmstongran Tue 28-Jan-20 18:50:15

Well Labaik Urmstongran; how sensitive of you to not divulge to your neighbours in Malaga that you voted for something that will make their lives more difficult

Oh that’s a bit po-faced isn’t it? Why should I - who lives in the U.K. remember - vote contrary to my wishes for the ex pats (who have made their choices!)?

jura2 Tue 28-Jan-20 18:48:26

and yes maddy, I think foreign cars and lorries should pay to drive in UK. Technology is simple, as proven at Dartford, and other places. The MWays in UK are a total disgrace of filth and litter - this money could pay for maintenance, improvements, better services and litter.

jura2 Tue 28-Jan-20 18:46:13

well yes maddy- the same distance will cost you much much more in France and Italy- so what is your point. How much did you pay driving through France to the Swiss border- and then on to your destination in Italy. But I still fail to see what it has to do with this thread?

Exactly Labaik.

And the thread was asking if it was unreasonable for expats/immigrants from UK to EU or EEA- to be fed up with other expats who actually voted to shoot themselves- and those around them who did not- in the foot.
