Spitting - what’s the legal situation?

I think footballers have a lot to answer for here! They spit constantly on the pitch and with tv coverage people see it and think it is o.k.

I can remember when I was young seeing notices attached to lamp posts stating that spitting was against the bye laws.

There have been prosecutions under the anti litter legislation.
Hard to police though as it would have to be seen by authorities or CCTV.

That is disgusting but not sure it is illegal. I just wish people, mostly men I think , would stop doing it. It is anti-social.
