Aargh! What DON'T they get?

Don’t they know Scotland is still in lockdown. This makes me so angry

lulusmf Surely the staff do have power to stop the visits ie repotting to the police. If that resident wants to take the risk having visitors that is their decision but they and the visitors should not be putting others at risk. The staff need to be brave and do something, they have a duty of care towards residents and they are failing you all.

I live in the Scottish Highlands & we're still in lockdown, but allowed more excersize, but there are many people including friends who are driving to nice places to do this!! My daughter messaged me to ask if she was missing something!!!! She's been walking the same route with her kids and dog from her house since this all began abiding by the rules, so very, very annoyed seeing these so called intelligent beings going here & there and then plastering their photos all over FB!!!
Very unfair and wrong for us who are still doing the right thing!
I despair!!!! And as for that stupid 'Tesco'woman! how dare anyone go to HER beach! Why didn't she go somewhere else quiet? Boils my blood!!!!!

I saw the news yesterday and spotted the woman stating how surprised she was at the number of people on the beach and the lack of social distancing. At that folk squeezed by behind her group. Did she think she was going to be the only one on the beach? That's the problem just now, everyone thinks they are the only ones who have come up with the idea of doing something/going somewhere when in reality the world and his wife have too.

But it's clear social distancing often isn't happening, especially on public transport, which people are being forced to use while the government pretends that there is a choice.

Some people are bound to feel "Stuff it, I'm at risk anyway so I'll do what I want."

P.s anyone goes to hastings on Friday at 10am stay away because I've booked a slot to walk along the beach. I don't want to see anyone else come within 2 metres, I have the disinfectant gun on the ready. If it's not sunny anyone else can have my slot gladly. (Of course I'm joking)

We live in an extrea care facility. My husband is in the shielded group. He is 76, I am 65. To minimise possible infection our wonderful on site carers are only travelling from their own homes to us. They are not shopping, exercising or doing anything that might bring them into contact wirh CV. The home has been closed to visitors since March 14th. Some of our carers are staying on site and not going home. We are the youngest residents by far. However....one of our residents is letting her AC come into the building, sitting with them in our communal gardens. She allows them into her flat, next door to us. They came yesterday on their bikes, huffing and puffing all over the place. Managers here have spoken to both the resident and the visitors but they have no powers to prevent the visits. Another resident goes out daily despite pleas from staff not to do so. What don't they get??? We are all very vunerable here, my husband could not be intubated or ventilated if he caught CV. Im at my wits end, as are our wonderful carers.

I am still seeing my daughter and her children as I’ve always looked after them and we determined it to be safer for them to continue to come to me rather than school or childminder, My daughter is a teacher and needs to work and my SIL is in charge of IT for a lot of schools and needs to work. Don’t judge people when you don’t know the story. We keep to ourselves and feel we are safer doing it this way. The adults can do their jobs and the children are safe with nanny who doesn’t go out. I can’t see how it would be safer sending the children to strangers and settings with lots of others.

This really is so funny. So they go to their favourite beach and want it all to themselves!! Hypocrites do as I say and not as I do.

I believe some people think that relaxation of the rules means they can get back to normal and carry on as before. The truth is that the hospitals are now geared for the second wave and have beds in ICU for those that get infected.
With a novel virus it is unlikely that there will be herd immunity, probably more like Russian roulette.
In 100 years they have not been able to find a cure or vaccine for the common cold.

I get herd immunity but this virus is serious, not just a bout of flu. People can be left with long term issues after the virus has left the body. And what of us over 70s self isolating rigorously, will we emerge when most of the population has had it and be fair game for the virus that maybe still hanging around.

It is Sparklefizz, but while there is hope for an effective one, we don't yet have a vaccine. Meanwhile, natural immunity will be building.

You just have to feel so sorry for that person complaining, don't you ?
They obviously had this idea that they were the only ones that would have that idea of going to the beach.
Two sets of neighbours decided that it was ok to make up their own rules this weekend - one household decided to not only have a bonfire, but also to have their grandchildren and great grandchildren visiting for the morning and their neighbours yesterday decided it was ok to have their relatives round for coffee!
Both households are couples that are in their late 70s/ early 80s, and I thought, up to this point were intelligent !

This virus isn't going any where, we have to adapt how we live our lives.

I cannot condemn people who want to be in the open air with members of their own household as I have no idea of their home circumstances.

What has made me cross was news coverage of the anti-lockdown conspiracy theorists protests in Hyde Park at the weekend who not only endangered each other but the Police Officers who had to patrol and arrest some of them! (Including Piers Corbyn, Jeremy's brother!)

I also agree with Furret's post 8.30 today. Far more concerned that GS is year six and his Mum is shielded...

There are a few things I find interesting on this thread. When people speak of 'herd immunity' it's as though in itself, it's some cruel half baked plan cooked up by the government. Do people not realise that it's a natural process that is inevitable with any new pandemic? The more people that develop natural immunity, the fewer hosts there are for the virus and combined with social distancing measures will result in infection rates falling.
I listened to the BBC interview with Lord Sumption yesterday and while there is much I disagree with, I found his perspective very interesting. At some point we must decide what feels safe for us as individuals and act accordingly. I agree with Doodledog that its illogical to condemn those who are acting within the new guidance just because it doesn't fit with what we ourselves believe.

Vegansrock, I'm with you. We've been meeting one or two friends (separately) at a local park over the past week or so. We have seen fairly large family groups socializing and picnicking.

Our garden is a private space accessible by a side gate with space to seat ourselves and a couple of friends at a safe distance.

As our family lives over an hour's drive away, and we know that friends are not seeing other people, we're applying common sense.
